  • 4:12 no but ur gonna be all too soon my friend

  • i live in the county this was filmed in THE SOUTH WITH RISE AGAIN

  • Deliverance is one of the epic movies of all time.

  • @survivalistboards Decent movie, really to bad it ruined Ned Beatty's career because of this movie he never saw a decent role again. Much better actor than he was ever given credit for.

  • @JSErwine Not quite sure where you're getting your info, but Deliverance was Beatty's first movie, and he's made over 100 since then, He has been nominated for an Academy Award, two Emmy Awards, an MTV Movie Award for Best Villain and a Golden Globe Award; won a Drama Desk Award. If that's whats considered ruined, sign me up.

  • @kenstafford Perhaps I used the wrong choice of words, something like stunted his career would have been a better choice. The stigma attached to the guy because of the forest scene did not help him. To this day when people see him, that role is the first that cokes to their mind.

  • @JSErwine 'comes to their mind.

  • I love the way you wear that hat; later someone will say to you "I love the way you wear that butt around my member"

  • The essence and theme is captured exceptionally. If they could bottle chemistry like this, every movie would be a hit. Contrary to what people are posting on the net, this was not just a chance encounter with the film crew. The boy could not play a note but was picked for his looks. He was able to convey wordlessly to the audience the stereotypical, mentally deficient youngster many believe live in the deep south.

  • It`s impossible to predict if a scene is going to work or not. In this case, this is a classic; the actor who plays the boy and the way it was filmed worked perfectly.

  • he looks a little bit like dewey of malcom

  • what is wrong with the banjo boy,is that some kind of a disease?

  • @isomikieee if that's a disease, i want it.

  • @isomikieee I guess fetal alcohol syndrome.

  • @isomikieee I guess fetal alcohol syndrome.

  • @isomikieee I think he was the result of inbreeding.

  • 3:27

  • lol thumbs up if you are thinking of Family Guy at 3:00

  • is that kid goerge bush, cus they look similiar

  • Behold! 'Tis the hillbilly anthem!

  • 3 gay men were hoping to see the rape scene when clicking on this.

  • This is what the farting contest between Peter Griffin and Michael Moore is.

  • Billy Redden (born 1956 in Rabun County, Georgia) is an American actor best known for his role as Lonnie, the banjo-playing boy, in the 1972 movie Deliverance.

Redden, then sixteen, earned his role in Deliverance during a casting call at Clayton Elementary School in Clayton, Georgia. To add authenticity and humor to the film, the filmmakers found Redden to fit the look of the inbred and mentally retarded banjo boy called for by the book, although Redden himself is neither. Google him....

  • This scene was filmed by accident. The young man with the banjo just happened to start chiming in with his banjo when the actor was just strumming his guitar as the whole film crew rested for a moment. The whole interaction, with the family and such, was not quite so much as staged but just happened.

The camera men knew a great scene was unfolding and recorded it while the actors fell into role and the mountain folk just went along with the moment.

The mountain folk were not actors.

  • @christiantt Where the hell did you get that information from?

  • @christiantt You got that info from an email right? Me too. I just checked wikipedia first to make sure I am quoting the correct info.

  • @christiantt the actor Billy Redden could not play the banjo, A musician reached round from behind him. this nmakes the "Accidental" story very unlikely

  • @christiantt that's funny. shit like that has been happening in movies for years. the guitar smashing scene in animal house was just john belushi forgetting his line and out of mere stupidity smashing buddy's guitar.

  • blindin film and scene

  • Why does the kid look away when he goes to shake hands? I've watched this movie about 10 times and still don't get it.

  • @hazuinf My guess is that he does not appreciate city slickers; let alone the type with a condescending attitude toward country folk.

  • @10110101100

Probably a good guess. Now I think about it, it works well with the other country people in the film.

    Cheers.

  • @hazuinf

The kid looked away because he didn't like Ned Beatty! For real.

  • I never knew David Letterman could play an instrument.

  • Look Mumford and Sons LOL

  • Inbred to within an inch of his life, LOL

  • Best scene ever...........period!!!

  • im sorry, but best banjo solo ever

  • Say mister, I like the way you wear that hat.

    ....you don't know nuthin!

This is my favorite scene ever put to film :)

  • @white1987 he says"who's picken the banja here". Great scene and song..Great movie..

  • what the hell does that guy say at 2:19 it's driving me crazy trying to figure it out haha!

  • @whitie1987Ned Beatty says to John Voight: "Talk about genetic deficiency, isn't that pitiful?" and the Mountaing man says" "Who's picking the banjo here?" Although the boy boy is clearly inbread, he picks a mean banjo...he may be geneticaly challeneged, but he he has a gift,....maybe his only one but he's the best....love this scene....xoxoa

  • @whitie1987Ned Beatty says to John Voight: "Talk about genetic deficiency, isn't that pitiful?" and the Mountaing man says" "Who's picking the banjo here?" • Great Banjo but when he trys to shake his hand...EPIC FAIL

  • is that kid george bush?

  • great scene, the boy could not play the banjo and another young man put his arms around him and played, pretty impressive just the same.

  • Movie tricks and other tricks notwithstanding - it's a beautiful scene

  • holy shit is it possible to play a banjo like this?!?! highly skilled!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I want to learn how to play the banjo just so I can do this

  • In spite of all that, they still raped them.

  • @theoriginal72 ..no they didnt!..it was only a film dude!.....anyway if they had 'raped' em,it wouldnt have been called rape,it would have been 'graped'..cos there was a whole bunch of em!!....lol...ha,ha......musically commenting?...those boyz can sure pick!..we aint talkin noses here!...gooooodddammmm!!.....bless..

  • 3:43 = Sexface.

  • its not the kid playing the redneck billy redden could not play and another childs arm from behind played the key changes for movie...

  • Billy Redden actually didnt play the banjo in the movie and he really doesnt look like that. Its all makeup and camera tricks. Do you guys really believe everything you see in movies? Mr. Redden isnt an imbred like someone said.

  • That kid, he´s just awesome! AWESOME!

  • Thats what I call movie making....

  • play this vid at 2:49

  • Ah man I love this! I'm going to do a metal version some day.

  • These are two badass musicians!!!

  • why is the picture stretched???

  • Please don't touch the children.

  • what song are they playing???

  • @dhylanspano1 The song is "Dueling Banjos" by Arthur Smith. 1955

  • @Etorresdeltoro i downloaded eric weissburg and its the same tune

  • Ronny Cox looks like Peter Fonda!

  • @Maginot - I was thinking a bit more like David Letterman with hair.

  • top notch music

  • An analogy would be someone from North or East London going south of the river.

  • This movie is considered a love story in Georgia

  • @Brothmark me and my wife/sister find that very offensive

  • @Normin5

    YOU MARRY YOUR SISTA ?

    DAMN!!!

THATS HOW I KNOW WE ARE GOING TO HELL

  • beuteful dance! :D

  • Inbred child haunts my nightmares.

  • I heard last night at a Ronny Cox concert, that kid is a chef now.

  • paddle faster, i hear banjos

  • The guy at 3:35 who is whistling looks like crazy eyes from mr deeds lol, this is my favourite scene in the whole film

  • can't believe that's Dick Jones

  • I thought the banjo kid was the kid the boy from The Christmas Story Beat up

  • This is my favorite scene in this otherwise disturbing movie!!! I am watching it right now on SpikeTV.

  • Billy Redden is the name of the kid. You could Wiki that name and find out that he couldn't play the banjo. A musician out of camera view reached up behind him and did the left hand playing. His only other movie was a Tim Burton film in 2003. He was a normal person, not really an inbred.

  • It's always amused me that Dueling Banjos is played with a only one banjo.

  • I just watched this for that creepy kid lol

    (Billy Redden )

  • this reminds me back when i was a kid, daddy taught us to shoot a gun, fight and do a lot of picken and grining ,he made us practice over and over and over and over.but he loved his banjo

  • Banjo Man looks like Dewy from Malcom in the Middle

  • The way Ned's behavior changed during the course of this movie illustrates an important point:

If you are obnoxious in the beginning, you will get it in the END.

  • I like how at 4:27 the banjo dude looks away when offered a handshake

  • Banjo dude hated Ned Beatty for some reason but liked Ronny Cox very much. To get banjo to react to Ronny the way he did, the director got Ned to appear from behind the house at that point. Have a look at that bit again - you will see everything come together.

  • Good observation. It was Ned's mouth that got him the comment from the man pumping the gas, "You don't know nothin.". That man knew, and Banjo also sensed Ned's disdain for the "genetic defects".

  • this is soo good :)

  • Ronnie Cox is a legend. My favorite of his good guy roles but when it comes to bad guys it's a toss up between Vilos Cohagen and Dick Jones.

  • Brilliant!

  • the guy at 2:19 needs an oscar!!!

  • HAHAHA

  • met billy redden @ Southeastern expeditions on the Chattooga river. He got paid 500 bucks for this. 5HG

  • 1 of my Dad's favourites. He's been gone 12 years today.

Still play this and remember him.

Top choon for a top bloke!

  • this mothafucka be a southerner LOL

  • @ErIndoorz im sorry brother

  • probably the most white thing ever invented... it was so good i almsot cried

  • Shouldnt be called dueling banjo and guitar?

  • wow

that kid must've been hard as hell to find

but hella worth it I bet

  • who's pickin' the banjo 'ere?

  • That kid was perfectly cast.

  • That kid Bill Redden i think his name was did not play the banjo. In fact i think another young banjo player had knelt behind him. The shirt he wore made it look as though he were playing this but he wasn't . Well that's the way the story goes. Amazing effects eh????Look at the long shots. Camera angle was careful not to pick this up. But use the pause button.

  • @nztman

Jon Voight said that the kid actually was an inbred. His brother is his father.

  • @nztman apparently he didn't actually play it, they had someone elses hands come up behind him,or so I heard

  • My dad worked for Bear Archery whose bows were used in the film. The company got an advance screening of the movie before its' release....at the Christmas party. Not quite what most people would consider a holiday movie. :))

  • I'm surprised I haven't got the obligatory "Squeal like a pig!" comment yet :-)
