Russ - the magazine cover templates are single novelty images for photographers. They are only meant to resemble a real mag cover and not be used for an actual magazine.
If you do a whole mag like this, your printer might come to hate you for backing up their RIP work flow and your line work will look soft. There is a way to combine vector and raster that does not cook your nameplate/title and avoids the hard edges of clipping paths. But I personally do not use it as I am a production artist. Is there a page designer out there that can ring in on this?
