@edtomorrow It was a great trip - particularly on the island Vis, and near to but not in Dubrovnik. Prices weren't great... The currency there is outside the Euro-zone and a bit artificially high so while things weren't overpriced, they were about the same as other parts of Europe even though they really probably should have been a bit cheaper. One other point is that the hotels and hospitality in Croatia is great. It is a real mix of Italian laid-backness with German promptness, a great mix.

Lots of reasons - every vacation I've taken for the last few years has been go to visit family somewhere. This time I wanted to go somewhere new, and had heard a few people mention Croatia as a great place they had been or wanted to go. For me, it was this or Costa Rica (for surfing), but my wife vetoed Costa Rica when she read about the mosquitoes there. I can't say it was a cheap airfare, or very cheap getting round there, but it was a great trip so it was worth it.
And the oysters were covered in a batter (actually, I know the Japanese for that doesn't make sense, I need to annotate a correction, it is like a kind of 揚げ方 only lighter) exactly how I ate as a child for fish in NZ. Everywhere the food was great, but the meals I showed here in Mali Ston and Vis were standouts. Our hotel in Dubrovnik was very good too.
Jas! Yep, the Xacti is a great, vey usable camera that on its own, takes great quality pictures, but when you put it next to the Canon, even through the YouTube filters, you can see that the way the Canon picks up colours and light in a scene is completely different. It's a bit odd, but the vid is buffering much faster in high quality mode than standard at the moment, which is why everyone SHOULD WATCH IN HIGH QUALITY MODE! - if possible ;)
The Blue Grotto is really crazy. I had heard it was good but I hadn't even seen any photos before seeing it so I was completely blown away when we went in there. Next time I want to go back when can go for a swim there. You can do diving and kayaking tours through the cave.

Damn...that looks like a beautiful place! I've never considered Croatia before as a vacation spot. I suppose when I think of Croatia, I just think of the Balkans War in the early 90s.
I think in a way, the fact people associate it with the war still is why it is so good - it means it is as good as Greece or Italy, but without the crazy crowds and pickpockets and so on to navigate. Just laid back and peaceful. It was a fantastic vacation and we've already decided to go back again.
Looks like quite the place to take someone for a romantic get away. Reminds me of Italy... How were the prices of things?

The Blue Grotto was a real highlight! I wanted to put more in the vid. ペンダントは鯨骨でできた「ヘイ・マタウ」という釣り針で、マオリ族の人にとって鯨骨を使うと旅の時のお守りになります。旅行中にずっと付けてたよ！
