  • master & student...you knw who wins

  • Vai's riff is awesome and he played a great solo, it's hard to play just after Joe!

  • Stevejoe Satrianivai are the bestemist guitar players in the werld! This two-headed beast better record somethin soon. Been listening to their music since forever. Awesome improv...luv these guys.

  • ahh man the result of 2 gods = epic win pie

vai n satch r like brothers with soo much talent i wish they'd

    get more attention

  • go vai!

  • Keep clicking 7:30 Rofl.

  • 2 completely different approaches to melody and soloing. stop bitching and enoy

  • @BOOLsheet bitching =/= comparing.

  • @xPurpleDrinkx9001 most of the comparisons here are idiotic

  • jam with the teacher..

  • I guess im blessed because i seem to be 1 of the few fans who can love both without becoming a douche and deciding 1 is better than the other

  • Both are the best in the world ... I Love both of them.

  • they are both virtuoso... but I like steve vai's style... it's up to people whom they like...

  • how did the Earth stay in one piece during this?

  • paul gilbert is missing...

  • lol Satch starts composing 'Ghosts' at 5:35 ;)

  • 4:38.. did he broked the string? haha that was funny.. i think mortal-made guitars can't stand god hands!

  • i thought steve vai was going to play every breath you take

  • Look everybody...It's Steve F**kin Vai and Joe F**kin Satriani just jammin'! Chill the f**k out and enjoy it! F**k!.....

  • i sooooo wish steve irwin was alive...and he was doin a documentary on these rock species for an alien race..lol........OYE CROICKEY.....this is the rock MOITING(mating) season...

  • Its cool to hear them play together with out a band. You can really hear the differences in their tone as well as style.

  • 7:30 Steve : AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA

    AHAHAHAHAH

  • Sat is better. But if I were a sadistic Nazi I vould make zeese two guys make out and we'll zee how zay vork togezer. Ze Most egotistical arshenhallen men ver ze fanz of ze Steve Vai because ze tappin iz for zee gays.

  • Just... love them!!

  • man.. i want joe to be my teacher in person!! not on youtube.. hes the best teacher ever

  • stop this instant that sounds like jazz!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • not jazz.. they are just playing in a different mode.. lydian i think

  • or steve says it beg ur pardon

  • @MidlanderThe Lol i know where you got that from... it was when Steve was playing Babushka with his band is out of tune, so while he's tuning, the band keeps the audience occupied by playing some jazz and he says"stop this instant that sounds like jazz!!!!!!!"

  • vais tapping licks get me wet

  • vais playing, technically speaking - is at its peak for me in around this era 02-03. although he always says his chops were best in david lee roth days.

  • everyone wants these guys to make a record together

  • Dean Markley Steve......buy some Daddario!

  • joe is not human.....hey guys, do a record please

  • 8:20-8:21 That could be ONE KICKASS riff. Imagine if they wrote a tune around that one little riff. WOW.

  • anyone know what those chords steve plays at the beginin are?? they sound reli cool

  • joe makes me shiver. x

  • joe makes me cry.

  • Vai breaks strings a lot man. He's an amazing player but I wonder what's goin on with that.

  • It's probably because of the strings. When you play the whammy backwards, it pulls on the string to the point that it rips out. Bad thing about playing the bar like that.

  • Morello? Yeah me too. Just to see him FAIL.

Nah I'm a bit of a bastard here. He's got his own voice and all, but I really can't see how he could blend in there. There is a margin between throwing some funky powerchords and actually improvising some virtuosic solo over a chord progression.

  • he snap a string?

  • tho personally i prefer Vai...or Satriani...

    damn!!

  • it's actually pretty awesome watching those two jam together :)

i mean a teacher and his student really share alot.

and i wouldnt really compare them...

    would be hard :D

  • Vai hit some wrong notes in that first jam. I love it because that shows he is human as well.

  • SAtriani is better in improvistation. Vai made a lot of mistakes

  • No he's not.

  • Who even cares about the mistakes? They both had freakin awesome improvisations, just different.

  • well satriani was vai's teacher so...

  • Satriani is like the Godfather of guitar. Crazy how many people he taught and influenced/influences. Thanks for uploading these!

  • They both have such different styles, i just think its incredible how well they both just blend together. sure they have been jammin since they where both kids, haha but its just amazing

  • they're gods ,but i think that satriani 's better during the improvvisation

  • every improv could be an awesome song

  • It seems that Vai only has his moments, but Satch sounds great ALL the time.

  • Thats called "being polite"

  • did anyone catch the name of this song that they start to play? did i catch "sound on sound?"

  • 4:52..steve said: "stop that instance that sounds like jazz".. steve does not like jazz..

  • I think it is much more one of is weak points.

  • Steve has no weaknesses

  • Yes! Hes bionic!

  • Fuck, can't you guys learn to stop arguing about who's better than who and appreciate the damn music

  • @chickenyogurt

amen. its not a damn contest. music comes from the heart. its not quantifiable or measurable per se..

  • @chickenyogurt thank you chickenyogurt... you're SN made me lawl btw. props x)

  • Sounds like something from Rent :D

  • grow up you twat!!!

  • i meant sensei satriani!!

  • I love both artists equally. I think this vid shows the ability of both styles of improv. To me Satch has a much more melodic approch and find the MODE and improvs on that mode selection well. He does play in a safe box (plus a few notes here and there) but whatever he plays, fits with out you having to think about it. Vai on the other hand plays all over, and makes you have to think if it fits. It usually does. He take the MODE and flies outside of it. It all sounds good to me.

  • listen to satriani at 6:27,he was talking previously about people playing while your trying to get your guitar in tune and at 6:27 he says sarcasticly"hey dont mind me"and plays a chord arangement that is from mars, that was the funnyest fuckin thing i heard in a long time, and for him to play that out of this world chord to compliment his joke was jenious,he is the master,so comfortable with himself and his instrument.

  • i dont get it...how is that funny ??

  • most of vai's stuff in there sounded good but there was a few bits that just killed it..satch easy sounded the best in that

  • Satch keeps in a little safety zone with his improvisations, it's always good but i think Vai jst likes to try go more unsual places in his improvisations even in the most simple chord progresssions, it shows in his music aswell.

  • I agree, it's better to experience the unusual places because you always learn something new

  • i wouldn't say one is better than the other... i personally think that joe is better but it all comes down 2 taste.

If i discovered vai's songs first i would probably like him more

It all comes down 2 someones opinions

  • wait , ur saying musical taste is all about opinions? this cant be true! ......

  • Of course it's true. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. 'Nuff said.

  • u mean 1,000,000? not 1.000.000 that just equals 1 u dipshit. Vai is better and always will be...

  • You ignorant idiot.. in Europe " . " and " , " are switched in numbers.... get your head out of your ass

  • You think i give a shit about what people do and think in Europe.

  • You don't have to, but you still made a fucking fool out of yourself

  • Just awesome those guys are f'ing aliens.

  • Two Guitar-Gods... nothing else to say...

  • tone, as vai says, is in the fingers. but, it must be said, satchs gutiar coming through vais amp does sound more like vais sound.

  • Really? Cuz I've always recognized Joe's tone in his fingers, no matter what equipment he's using it has that sparkly kinda quality and I think it came out perfectly clear here.

  • great !!!!

  • I have this whole video! I've always loved it! The improvisations are amazing and their tone is gorgeous!

  • Where do you get the video?

  • everybody else shut the fuck up

    lol

  • Joe is really a great master. Respect

  • omg thank you so so much!!!

  • Thankyou Very Much! :)
