Taiwan can't hold off China by itself. Japan wants to fight China but not alone. South Korea will stay out of the way. US don't wouldn't want to fight it knows there is little to be gained, but can't just let it go since its international status will be doomed if they do. So a token defense at taiwan strait will happen. However, I bet my money on China winning just because it is more determined to put on a protracted fight, also US forces can't take looses like the Chinese can.
However, I highly doubt there will be such a conflict in the future. Both taiwan and China are waitting for when the situation shifts the status quo to shift to its favor.
Both sides are not confident of victory currently. Taiwan is waitting for CCP to fall and exploit the opportunity. China is building up its economy and also trying to integrate its economy with Taiwan so that war for taiwan with mainland is unthinkable. So both sides will wait it out unless some politician in Taiwan feels the need to save its own ass and take drastic action.
People might say that US want to use this opportunity to eliminate China as a world competitor. However, in this global economy eliminating China is unthinkable blow to the world economy. Even if US wish it, EU will try to intervene since it is also dependent on China for trade.
Japan's last hope for a great eastern nation union with itself at the center will fail regardless of this conflict's outcome. Even if China is not there as its sole competitor, no other country in south east asia will follow japan.
