You may not share my intelect, which may explain your disrespect =P
but, I know exactly what a fanvid is, that doesn't change the fact that you can't just change the title of the song, and expect the music to magically change to match it, which is what makes this video not work out, I mean it's about dolphins flying into space, sorry, but doesn't particularly remind me of this movie about Spirit the Stallion.
Hey, if it falls flat for you, that's fine. Can't please everyone.
And now for the grumpy defense: part of the humour's at least supposed to come from the ludicrous juxtaposition, just like serious fanvids gain their weight from appropriate matching of the song and video. Perhaps it's just too much to ask viewers to have a little imagination when watching obvious crack?
That doesn't change the fact that it's horribly misleading, a name like "So Long and Thanks for All The Hay" Well lets think for a minute, dolphins eat fish, horses eat hay, oh my, I bet this will be a parody of the song, where the audio's been edited to fit, but no, oh well.
Perhaps I'm asking for it since I don't really like the convention of naming fanvids stuff like "Spirit: Evangelion Theme" or suchlike. Sure, it's convention on YT, but so are intros (nnngh) and calling all fanvids AMVs. I enjoy coming up with plays on either the song's name or some lyrics that tie into the video source.
Also, description, seriously. If I was singing a parody of the song instead of vidding up a crackvid I would have said so.
Sometimes they're also known as AMVs, if that helps. I just don't use that term much for my own because it stands for 'anime music videos', and to date I haven't worked with any anime in my fanvids.
The idea behind fanvids - fan made music videos - is to take music from one source and video from another and combine them in interesting ways. Like any fanwork, it is kind of a "copy", but good fanvids say new things about the video source using the audio - be it a joke, an observation, a new story, or simply a retelling of the video's story via the audio.
In this case, I had a bit of fun making it look like the horse characters from "Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron", like the dolphins in H2G2, knew Earth was going to go boom and tried to warn humans before leaving.
If you don't find it funny or interesting, that's totally cool, but this isn't a rip off. It's a fanvid. Admittedly that line can be blurry sometimes, but miss that and you miss the whole point, my friend.
Damn it! I'm going to be listening to this for _hours_ now... :( ah well, it's a nice change from caramelldansen.
(found you from fanvidrants :D)

Oh dear Dog, someone who knows what a fanvid is on this video.
I may faint from surprise and happiness. :3

Aww, yeah. And though a audio edit _would_ make this even _more_ awesome, it's fairly obvious what you mean here.
Also, HORSIES! (... and my backlog of things to check out got even _bigger_.)
hollyshortrules 2 years ago
Wow horrible, I was at least expecting an audio edit.

Why does this video seem to attract so many people who apparently have no idea what a fanvid is?

(darn character limit)
And, yes, I know the song's real name. It's right there in the credits. "So Long and Thanks for All The Hay" is the FANVID'S title.

Ya'know a minute ago I was wondering why ivykid said what he said, but now I see why. So I'm gonna go ahead and quote him on it.

Aww, don't cry. There's no shame in being a bit confused by your first encounter with fanvids. Here, allow me to explain the concept. ^_^
