  • google can transcribe audio to another language sure they can "understand" you

  • @1h00m Have her read Christopher (bad-ass) Hitchens "God is Not Great", the host makes a great point about God endorsing murder, torture, rape, etc at any point during god's existence is wrong, however, Hitch makes the point (for those Christians who will ignore that point) that the New Testiment is worse than the old. It was Jesus who introduced hell and who said that he did not come to earth for peace, but to bring a sword.

  • wow.. the woman was just stuck

  • I think it must be tough to do in America but standing up to bullies and thieves shows great courage good on you Seth. It shows a great deal more moral fortitude as well.

  • The religious are sometimes quite intelligent.

However they are victims they suffer a mental state, the jury is still out if it is a condition, damage or self inflicted delusion.

However when it comes to religion and their faith, then they get stupid. Really Really Stupid and disconnect with reality.

Don't believe they do not hate many do and by their actions they behave in a hateful manner.

It is sometimes hard to accept but its the way it is Religion is all about divisive and hateful.

  • The thing with the ads is it seems to me that google consistently shows ads that are in opposition to what the show is about somehow. For instance The Young Turks is regularly interrupted by extreme right wing ads from google. If google was only airing political ads because a show was political, you would expect to see some left leaning ads. But I haven't seen that. Not surprised christian ads air in atheist videos, like google's sponsored results searches for "atheist." Maybe they're "sponsored

  • @rifter0x0000 google ads are based on your google searches....

  • I must be honest with the issue of womens rights. Before you said it at 14:00 I used to think people supported sexism because they want to take away womens rights, whilst not taking note of the cognitive dissonance between the women that DO believe and still justify it as being just to save human life.

Very interesting point, one I had not thought of before.

  • She's frightened

    And scared of the unknown

  • Yes, Google has voice recognition. You are not paranoid.

  • ''i love the challenge to my beliefs and they only strengthen my faith'' the first caller said. so basically the more truths she comes across the deeper her head goes into the sand, what a wonderful virtue. only religion can have such a negative veiw when supposedlly seeking the truth. deary me, another teflon coated cristian. its 2012 for phuk sake.my hair is now totally removed from head.FFRRRRUUSSSTTRRRAAAATIIIOOONNN

  • the first caller says we are hard wired to believe in god, what a load of bollox. there are many cultures that have no deitys and those that do are not any more relevant than the abrahamic cults.the god of the gaps is the best explanation for man trying to contend with hardship, insecurity and our general fears. we have been at a state of consciousness for centurys now, where many poeple have reasoned that we no longer need this security blanket of religion. like hitchens said, its babyish.

  • Thank you for saying that you can't listen to christian music! I know that i'm not alone with that now. Now I myself listen to deathcore, and you would be surprised how hard it is to find good bands that aren't some type of religious, whether it be satanic, christian, or what have you. People keep asking why it matters, it's because I am bombarded with religion day in and day out that to have one thing that I Love, that isn't contaminated with it is a real treasure.

  • @mayonayonayonaise

Don't limit yourself to Deathcore. Listen to Death metal too. You'd be very hard pressed to find any religious Death metal bands.

  • Q: How do you make an atheist?

A: Make him read the bible.

  • The first time she said wow I knew this wouldn't be good.

  • Maybe try a protocol (structured conversation) for 1 hour.

1/2 hour them trying to convert you and you listen.

1/2 hour you explaining your reasons and they listen.

Maybe set up rules like focusing on the idea, not attacking people, etc.

At least then it won't be swept under the carpet year after year.

  • "But it's not a payoff!"

And then she goes on to describe her payoff. Unbelievable.

Lady, it's either a payoff or it's fear in the face of a threat. You're either greedy or a coward.

  • At the 41:50 mark its clear that Erin just doesn't get it.

  • @Wit Cool name, bro.

  • @IKillBabyKittensLOL Thanks ;-)

  • how cant people understand?! OUR MIND IS PRODUCT OF CHEMICAL REACTIONS IN OUR BRAIN!!! no reincarnation, no eternal life. you won't even know you are dead. it sounds scary and it is. that is why people created religion. to not be afraid. even if there is "higher meaning" our brain is not yet developed enough to understand. imagine sun, now imagine all knowledge we need to have to understand as sun. we maybe know 1 hydrogen atom from sun. that is how much we know and how much we have to learn!

  • I don't see why you cant mix teemed with non-themed episodes.

  • I am 666 who gave voice to yes. Does it mean anything?

  • @dendrytus you will get a cookie

  • She's so afraid of owning her own beliefs.. Sure you think there's a pay off, of course it's a coping mechanism.. that's what Heaven is to Christians.. some kind of eternal pay off. Heaven or Hell... Come on girl... own it or admit the irrationality of your religious beliefs.

  • i used to think just like this young person and i can tell you from experience that... its all a cover. these justifications are things she tells herself. i used to be 99% like this person.

  • Seth, the conversation you had with Erin is the best exchange I have ever experienced between a believer and a non-believer. Obviously, she danced around the comparison between Dahmer and Ali, and while she didn't bite, I'm certain she and others are thinking about it.

From my perspective, hell is the most unjust attribute regarding to religion. Even when I was a Christian, I had a extremely difficult time telling non-believers that was their post-death destiny.

    Well done!

  • Erin dear, on the issue of Jeffrey Dahmer. Can you say waffle? I knew ya could.

  • What's the matter Erin? Are you too important to not live forever?

  • The scariest thing about being an atheist for me has always been ceasing to exist and not continuing in an afterlife. I've come to accept that but I'm still scared.

Great talk with Erin, TTA. I rarely meet religious theists who are as open as she was. Very respectable too.

  • @acoti Why be scared of something you cannot understand? I am maybe a bit sad that my life will one day end, but I for sure ain't scared of being dead :)

Also, if you think about living for eternity in heaven it makes no sense and I think it's equally scary and ''lame'' as death. If I was wishthinking, I would go for endless reincarnation :) It sounds nice... You don't remember your last life, everything is new, everything is different. Lovely :D

  • @SisK0211 I get your point. I've not existed for countless years before I was conceived and I'll go back to that when I die, but as a human I'm still scared. One day, hopefully, I'll no longer fear it.

  • @acoti It gets better as you get older, and especially as your kids get older. Hang in there :)

  • @rnicey I appreciate the words of comfort.

  • She is like the best christian i have ever heard. =)

  • @FalseProphet501 Certainly interesting to hear peoples views. But she starts with questioning 'trauma' causing Atheism, uses the 'weasel' word 'pride' - and uses examples of what this means to her and goes on to say no one is saved or 'save-able'. Self decides what true Christianity is. She has a nice voice and seems nice, but I think there is something more horrific about a Christian who says that everyone is inherently evil then one who does not.

  • For the question of life losing meaning without God, I think animals can be a good example. They to my knowledge display no religion or supernatural belief system but still live life with 'purpose,' and seem to display pleasure and pain.

  • @dyingalive Absolutely right. However, VFX-sort theists like to think of themselves as something different than animals. So we (atheists) who see the scientific proof that we are just another type of ape, primate, mammal or anything further down the tree, we do find life to be meaningful and do not require a god to make it so. Some theists do see this too and come to the conclusion there is no need to be theist any longer to give meaning to life. They are just too little in numbers.

  • You are not paranoid youtube does use some sound recognition, it seems to copyrighted recognize songs. someone may also have linked your video on other pages along wiht tagging christian fling.

  • why are there no top comments?

  • Argument for a weekly show: Even if it's a bad time, at least it's predictable. Problem with biweekly is no one remembers whether it's this week or next.

  • Any deity who sends people to hell for not believing is not God. Such a deity is evil and immoral. Im atheist btw.

  • Erin was a great caller very nice was much more well spoken than she thought of herself. That last question TTA asked you could kinda hear the gears in her brain just come to a halt. No disrespect to her though, thats one I have never heard a christian give a christianity flattering answer to.

  • Erin - if you're viewing these comments just know that your openness, courtesy and willingness to talk to those of differing opinions is incredibly commendable. This was a fantastic call and I wish every last conversation between theists and atheists could be this respectful (even when opinions diverge) and for this long.

  • Great call! Almost an hour? Insane! I want to here more from her.

  • Arien (hope I got the spelling correct) was a great call, which is most likely why it lasted so long. I hope we hear more from her.

  • when that religiuos woman that came on first said that life doesnt have meaning if there was no haven i dissagree if there was eternal bliss or damnation after only at best 100 years of life wouldnt that make life more insignificant if gods all knowing and knows where ur gonna end up in the first place whats the point thats why im a proud atheist

  • Viva La Pink Marshmallow Mam!!

  • great podcast!

  • guys is there a video with a list of Q & A I can ask christians so they can stop harassing me

  • As a noodle-fearing Pastafarian, I want to say that God has forgiven Mr. VenomFang for his sadness and that Mr. Fang will someday understand why he's so angry and come to forgive himself.

    ~Jared

  • you say you do a podcast every 2 weeks or so? Since you seem to have themes now my suggestion is have themed 1 week, random the next.

See how that works for say 6 months

  • The current schedule seems best from my perspective; it gives you ‘more time’ [in between shows] to rake up potential topics, to construct a show etc. Having said that, perhaps you should have the odd ‘open phone’ show.

As a listener, I have to also pose this: how many of us can tune in/listen to the podcasts frequently without backlogging them due to our schedules, i.e. work, family, school/other commitments? I love the podcasts, but frequently I am listening to them post-broadcast.

  • Frequent podcasts sounds GREAT when you’ve got a host with character, but give it some thought, and the frequency at which you currently produce them is just fine. Sooner or later content will repeat/overlap, not to mention how much time/effort you’ll have to put in to produce them at the quality you already do. Could you cope without burning out or feeling stressed? I think a more frequent show will require co-hosts; it’d only be fair to give you a break once in a while!

  • Yea my family is Jehovah's Witnesses and Baptist .Getting with my family is always pretty hard. The Jehovah's Witnesses don't celebrate holidays so not only does Religion separate the family but then you add an Atheist and it just rips everything apart,we are still a family, but it is stressful sometimes.

  • Its rare that you see two people of opposing faiths having a calm rational discussion on one of these kinds of shows.

I really respect you and Erin for that.

  • You bring up some good stuff, Seth

Fortunately i was never surrounded by relimuppets but i have a big problem with them always forcing their selfrighteous BS in society.

Its not so much the religion as the irrational injustice it brings. And it brings injustice.

They condemn everyone while acting humble and forgiving. Also the condescending crap is really annoying the shit out of me

Its fun taking shots at their deluded asses, i cant be as friendly with them as you are

  • d(^.^)b

  • 3:56 I do it... I love animals especially dogs and cats :)

  • Darth Norris Approves!...the argument is NOT about is there a god??...the argument is...are you under some kind of form of Mind Control?? Be careful how you use your energy because it could be a form of Mind Control. Trivium education is a way to freedom from the many forms of mind control, but not all. Being an atheist can turn into another box as well. Some key philosophers to true freedom from the task master we call the MIND are Alan Watts--Robert Anton Wilson--just to name a few. GREAT SHOW

  • This guy's voice totally sounds like Iggy Pop's

  • I went to my girlfriends house and her parents ask me my religion. I told her I was an atheist and she said we' both would burn in hell. I told her I respect everyones belief and she told me she couldnt respect any atheist lack of belief. She said "So you just think we appeared out of nowhere?

Oh boy I wanted to go off on her

  • @JokerMizzan You should have answered: "No, YOU think we appeared out of nowhere." And then go from there ... :))

  • @JokerMizzan

I'd agree, you have to tell them that THEY believe humans poofed into existence out of thin air.

  • religion is a tool, some people use if for good, some people use it for bad, but mainly people have it in the basement not doing much with it, claiming they have it and know how to use it well.

  • If u can't do weekly then try bi-weekly, atleast twice or so a month would be great, perhaps spend an episode talking to an author of an atheist book n talk about that =)

  • Voice recognition technology is nowhere near that level of accuracy and practical use. However, google algorithms are able to detect statistical viewer behavior. When hundreds of viewers googled mingle adds to have a laugh right after watching your video, google recognized the pattern ,smelled money and tried to impulse the tendency with commercials for mingle adds.

  • Comment removed

  • All hail the Invisible Pink Unicorn!

  • about the mingle adds i believe that it is possible to find keywords even in your speech, as it is possible to actually ask youtube to automatically analyse the sound and put subtitles(although mostly incorrect) in any video.

In that case, i guess it would be very logical if the google adds don't restrain to finding keywords only in written texts.

  • I Absolutly love this channel, Thanks for making things seem, Easier to understand.

  • If you do decide to go full weekly, why not do a bi-weekly titled show, and on the other two weeks do an open format talk. Just an idea, great podcast good luck.

  • @Frappuccino1988

That's pretty smart. The titled show would open up the discussion topic and week later people will have had time to really think about it. Come up with stronger arguments or counter-arguments.

  • Due to delusions around the world in all the different religions, you will never run out of source material. A delusion can be a very emotional part of your life. if I had a daily conversation with Napoleon, that could potentially bring me a great deal of joy and could even push me to learn french so that I can understand what he's saying :)

  • Erin is a nice girl, if all Christians were like that the world would be a better place.

  • :) weekly, yay!!!!

  • church of scientology video is the promoted one here... fkin google >:(

  • @3:57 I cant believe you said woobie also! My family has called them that for years and I've never hear anyone else outside of them call it that. You must have seen Mr. Mom lol

  • 48:26 is a question that Christians just do not want to answer.

  • @MsPhoneMonkey You are correct. It is just another example of the absurdity of Christian belief. The nonsense just keeps mounting up to the point the whole thing just collapses.

  • @TSavage1953 Christian's try to prop it up with more false beliefs, but, Hopefully, the whole faith just falls apart forever.

  • Would you not dance just because you know the music will end eventually?

  • @sociogenetics - Have you seen any of Dark Matter's (darkmatter2525) videos? In one there is a quasi-extinguisher in the periphery. It says "in case of logic - break glass, take bible, cover ears" or something to that effect. Simply Brilliant.

  • We shed Santa Claus when we find out he is our parents, why can't we shed god when we find out "he" is our pastor?

  • The rat-dog acts like a 200lb dog cuz' it knows it's only a 3lb dog. It's over-compensating, very common in tiny dogs.

  • This gets painful by 40 minutes. By the time he makes any headway she just shuts her brain down. She actually stops thinking.

  • @sociogenetics Oh man, lol! I was just going to comment on the same thing @0:37:59. It started with her saying "Well, that's fine" in that manner that men know so well. I'm not sure if this let's-be-friends-coz-all-opinions-are-equal technique is any better than Matt Dillahunty muting the call and having a rant.

  • @Valelacerte She says she could go on for hours but you can tell she's done. It's like watching someone pretend they're fine after knocking themselves out by running into a post. You just want to say "It's ok, we know you're hurting. That's just what happens when you do that."

  • @sociogenetics Never done the post thing, but I've head butted the top of a door a few times (Google says it's called the casing, not the jamb). A little later in the conversation, the woman agreed that she would like to be friends and meet other Atheists because she wanted to "understand them" (like a curious species), and that no matter what they said it would only make her faith stronger. (*Gag*) No amount of honey and lavender will mask that kind of bullshit.

  • Ultimately our lives don't matter, as atheists. But we don't live in the ultimate, we live in the now. And in the now, in the present, everything matters. In fact it matters more if there's no afterlife. If there is an infinite afterlife, then the finite now amounts to nothing. It's a mathematical principle. Anything finite compared to the infinite is zero.

  • I also like the themed shows.

  • She should have been easily answered with her heaven argument. What you want to believe makes no difference to what is actually true.

There is no reason for there to be a purpose to everything.

Heaven as an argument is ludicrous, why even have an earthly life that is cherished if there is a heaven?

  • Your from Oklahoma? I was raised hardcore Catholic (went to Catholic private school) and when i went through my Confirmation I spent an 3 years studying and i became an atheist as a result I am happy to see another Oklahoman that is openly atheist because we are vastly outnumbered here in the bible belt lol

  • @MrTruecarnivore No kidding I can't wait to move away from here!

  • @LadySnape13 yep once i am done with college i will be moving to a more open minded area where that is i am not for sure yet

  • holidays with a family of faith? Myfamily includes liberal Christians, a gay Wiccan, and I'm an gay athiest. Family diners are a blast! We adore each other, we share our beliefs with no hidden agenda of conversion. My Christian family supported the gay-youth group I worked with, with money and encouragement.

Thank you for your rant at the begining of this show. Internet atheists too often bash without thinking. Your opening was a breath of fresh air.

  • I think you should just make the shows shorter and put them out more frequently. Chances are I would be able to watch this more often and you wouldn't need any more material then your already covering.

  • I really think this is a really good one to introduce someone to the series with.

It's inspirational, answers a lot of initial questions and very warm.

My brother has been questioning a lot lately, he's left the bible behind and is searching for something to hold onto in his unblinded line of thinking and this will be the perfect thing to ground him and start him on a new path of free thinking.

  • wow Ive got a lot of respect for the way you and the main caller on this one were able to have a genuine conversation. Being an atheist I thought she was a little slow to grasp your motivations at times but overall I really enjoyed it!

  • no afterlife means life is limited, and thus valuable. the argument that because there is no afterlife and life becomes meaningless doesn't make sense. The fact that is limited makes it very meaningful and worth it

  • I can't believe this woman justified a serial killer being "saved", while in the next sentence calling into question the good deeds and motives of a woman who went through suffering at the hands of religious peoples.

  • "Christianity isn't about being good"?? wow she really summed it up there. And she didn't hit that Dahmer question. If there was a god and that wa shis idea of jusice..I want no part of him. he is a sociopath

  • Don't do a weekly show, it'll get stale.

Just keep doing what you are doing, it's working well.

  • The meaning of life is an interesting question my thoughts are: Because of evolution we are hardwired to survive (by loving life and/or fearing death), being kind to others (especially family) and to reproduce.

I think we will continue the multimillion year trend of loving: sex, life and family.

The meaning of our lives is to increase the number of us though reproduction and kindness to others. Assuming life is more wonderful than less organised matter this is not circular reasoning.

  • Really???? 40 minutes with the same caller??

  • I am proud to be human, I've always disliked the religious mindset that 'we are shit and we need this god to be something'.

  • Way too much time with this one caller. Don't sacrifice your listeners with such long calls. I don't want to listen to the same conversation all the time. Sad, because I liked the show.

  • @gorwell97 What are you complaining for.... If you are watching on youtube you can just fast forward whenever you please.

  • @bradkey98765 still, I love sean but he did waste alot of time with her, when there are other callers waiting.

  • @bradkey98765 Really??? I'm not allowed to voice my opinion?? I can also fast forward on itunes too. That's not the point.

  • @gorwell97 Appologies for my comment, it wasn't particularly fair since without hindsight you had no way of knowing the length of the conversation or whether you'd like it in it's entirity.

  • @bradkey98765 Since when is reasonable thinking and a willingness to admit a mistake acceptable YouTube decorum?

  • Why should I care for this life if I could live forever by accepting Jesus on my death bed (ignoring that I couldn't get saved if I tried given being an atheist is blasphemous and blasphemy is unforgiven)? Theists avoid answering that question.

  • Wait, what, I'm 20 and I can't stand much of anything that's stupid (why I listen to and watch some videos on YT is beyond me). I never have to think about it. Damn, I'm aging too fast :(.

  • THe part where he says that you would base your beliefs on your culture is how i feel about religion. YOu base it largely off you culture. i got into an argument with a girl because she said she would still be christian if she was raised in a different culture

  • 58:58 Absolutely - my experience of being raised a Christian. The fear of God always watching me (and my Grandma!) was debilitating.

  • If you're conserned about having enough material for a weekly show, you might consider maybe having a brief comment on some topic, and then open up the phones to call ins. Let the call-ins drive the topics and that will fill the content.

  • Seth - I hope you consider having a weekly show. I never miss The Atheist Expereince Video stream on Sundays. It would be so awesome to have your show on as much. Keep it up!

  • Why do atheist let stupid people respond to there video.

  • When i grow up i can only hope to have such a bad ass sounding voice. They should have got you to do some of the voice overs in skyrim, for the dragons or something.

  • It's not certain humanity will die out and there are good reasons to aim for the contrary although it's an immense challenge. Bt even though the possebillety that humanity will be wiped out intelligence and our values might ge another shot at some other part of the universe, now or in he future.

  • Cont. Make as much out of it as possible. It's rational for anyone to defend their will. How ever the will might not be rational. So I'll defend my position with appelation and logic. Let's hope peoples selfishness and greed generally is from bad upbringing and not ingrained. The "odds of being" analogy argument is logically flawed.

  • TheThinkingAtheist made some mistakes here. But a nice discussion anyway. A person who doesn't genuinly care about the future of humanity will not be driven to care about pollution et cetera and the future after the person dies. Anything that doesn't affect the persons comfortzone from their WILL. On the botom of the lake it's appelation. How ever it's not the same as the statement "life is meaningless". Apart from people who are in too sufferable condition.

  • Lol that rant at the end about radio was classic!

  • I really don't understand people who talk about "choosing what you believe".. I can't possibly choose my faith. I can't choose to be Christian or Muslim, or Hindu, Pagan or not to believe at all.

I can only choose what I -say- I believe. My honest faith or lack thereof, is not something I can control. Sure, you can walk around telling yourself that you believe something, but if you actually don't, it won't work. Not for me, anyway.

  • fr all yu atheistists out there im here ive ot vids on help wth rligion checkem out if you need help

  • You should do a weekly show. And if you don't have a topic, than you can just entitle it The Thinking Atheist Radio Podcast # Random Topic #1 and then Random Topic #2 and so on.

  • That was so annoying, at least she admitted that her viewpoint won't change no matter what. She couldn't concede ANY POINT at all, counter-arguments are fine, but she merely dismissed many arguments by just using blanket "well...not necessarily, yeah....but..." while really saying nothing at all.

  • @Magmatwister yup, pointless conversation.

  • You can tell Erin has thought very little regarding these topics... The vital word in the phrase "the thinking atheists" is not "atheist"... its "thinking"...

  • former christian, dude, you can't wash that off!

  • contact me if you need 3D modeling, I will try to help as much as I can, no charge, and it won't be crap

  • Thank you for talking about how life is not meaningless without an afterlife. Just as a Christian may find it impossible to imagine a meaningful life without a hereafter, I cannot conceive of experiencing love, commendatory, joy, passion, seeing this beautiful and awe-inspiring planet and the billions of stars and planets that surround us and concluding that somehow it's worthless because there's not something better waiting for you afterwards. Simply living is enough of a gift to me.

  • Comment removed

  • No offense to Erin, but the acrobatics she exhibits with the Jeffrey Dahmer conundrum is astounding. Postulating that the Muslim woman might have helped others escape oppression for the benefit of her own ego? Simply astounding. I really hope that was just the nerves talking.

Also, the closed captions are pretty hilarious when you're talking about this.

"I am personally, as a woman who escaped oppression from her moslem faith..."

    "There's pet pie..."

  • His children are very lucky to have a father like him.

I hope that they know that.

  • "With no god there's no purpose to your life."

Then what's the purpose of existing in the afterlife?

  • Oh atheists. You're going to hell... I pity your sinful soul

  • @XpervertodoX If only you understood how meaningless that sounds to us.

  • @XpervertodoX and we pity your belief you actually have a soul... silly theists, you've been tricked since you were kids!

    (\__/)

    (-__-)

    (..)_(..)

  • @XpervertodoX are you trolling or are you serious? We're all sinful and trying to insinuate otherwise is a sin in itself, review the bible.

  • To some degree I agree with Erin AND Seth. As far as I can see, our lives are meaningless in a larger/universal scale; or put another way, life itself is meaningless and without any purpose beyond ensuring its continued existence. However, we CAN give our lives meaning and purpose in a different context from the universal scale; while we're here, we might as well enjoy it, and we can give our lives any number of purposes like taking care of our loved ones, becoming successful & knowledgeable etc

  • You start speaking in tongues when you see a dog? DEMON!!

  • I want to know what's the purpose of an Atheist or what do they believe in? the question for them is, is there a life after death? and I would explain myself, when you die is that it? it's that the end? I find it hard to believe that we waited billions of years just to be once in here and then billions of years in the future we would never return, in my opinion is, if we made it once in here, we can make it twice or maybe multiple times,

I agree with you about heaven and hell, it's a myth.

  • If atheist were able to think, they would not be atheist. Atheism is based on nothing but simple abstract possibility and is 100% intellectually indefensible. There is nothing to validate atheism therefore its held by faith alone.

  • @miket1m Contrarily, atheism is a lack of belief in the supernatural. The supernatural are, by definition, abstract and immaterial and therefore unfalsifiable and indefensible. By being an theist you are accepting supernatural concepts as fact. The atheist position is that there is no reason to believe in god(s) or the supernatural. It is both the default, and only logical position- because as you know, to believe something without evidence is definitively both illogical and a thing of faith.

  • @LordKombox Then, like I said, you hold your atheistic position by faith. How else can you hold your position. Because you don't see any evidence, doesn't mean there is no God, does it? Once you have been introduced to a concept you have to do something with that information. You can't stay at a neutral position. I accept my belief based on proof. I believe that more than the atheist can do. You can prove the existence of God by using the simple laws of logic. Just one of many proofs.

  • @miket1m That was kind of funny.

1: There is no proof or argument for God that can't be shut down by scrutiny.

2: No proof is needed to be an atheist, for atheism is the default when other claims have no proof.

3: By being theistic you are rejecting the ways of logic which is to accept the claim with the most supporting evidence.

They don't call a belief in God faith for no reason. They do because you believe without a reason.

You are a pretty dang far out case of a creationist.

  • @miket1m You are either a troll, in denial or woefully ignorant if that's what you think (perhaps a combination of all three). But there is no point in arguing with you in any case. You've made up your mind and nothing will change it; not even irrefutable fact. You have, in effect, stopped thinking - they very thing The Thinking Atheist is trying to combat. You have completely missed they purpose of this whole exercise - all you do is repeat what you've been taught and want to believe.

"If atheist were able to think, they would not be atheist. Atheism is based on nothing but simple abstract possibility and is 100% intellectually....."

This is exactly...I mean exactly how I see Christianity, or religious belief, now...especially having been a Christian for many years!

If you were obsessed with believing the Loch Ness monster existed, and came to me everyday saying "it's real, I swear!" I'd say, "I'm sorry but you can't substantiate your claim."

    That's all it is.

  • @Cootabux Well, the difference between what I believe and what you believe is that your belief you have absolutely no proof whatsoever and I do. I can use the simple laws of logic as proof for the existence of God. Interested in hearing it?

  • From French comedian Coluche: "One has a right to ask: Is there a life before death?" Before death? I believe you and Erin were giving opposite answers to this... which is honestly sad for her.

  • That woman who called in came across like she wouldn't have any morals at all and no reason to live if she didn't believe in heaven and hell... Kinda scary.

  • Thank you to the young lady who called for her courage and good manners. I enjoyed listening to the discussion and wish it could have gone on longer.

  • I have one thing to say to the woman calling about the meaningfulness of everything you accomplish if there's no heaven.

What about this: maybe a "heaven" is a concept. And it describes the blissful moment when you're lying on your death bed, and think back everything you've done: "Gosh... I have lived a good life... I'm happy for every moment!"

Maybe that's when they call "heaven"? ;)

Would that suffice to the "why?".

  • the bible does not say that life begins at conception they want to end abortion to enforce their sex related morals
