  • So happy that my idol did a cover of the father of my other idol. After a year I still can't believe my ears :)

  • i listened to this album on acid

  • @shanecombs1993 i envy you.

  • shit

  • Tim Buckley's lyrics are brilliant, but John's voice has that factor that makes this version better.

  • listening to this album while studying takes away all the stresses of exam week

  • "Dad, there's no video!" - I guess that's what most 8-year-olds base their impressions of music on :) I said son, this doesn't need a video. Just listen.

  • amazing shtuff..soo beautiful is this life, all things as the should be because they are... <3

  • were you HARE when I was FOX

  • He´s a very special and beautiful human being :)

  • Folks, John has done a fine cover of the song, but he did not write the song, It was written by Tim Buckley and his writing partner Larry Beckett, you can find it on the Starsailor album.

  • all who think that John should compose a song for Titanic 2! :)

  • My GF just insulted John Frusciante..i dont want to end it but...i mean....if i have to..for john..

  • @thepope38 what do u mean?

  • @thepope38 this may sound a little harsh and i really dont want to say something horrible about your GF but....I mean....you don't need to end 'it'.......you need to end HER!!!! haha I'm jst kidding but i do find it difficult for people not to like John, but it's each to their own i guess!!!

  • @crappyguitarist12 step by step im getting her there lol..i got her to like "Scar tissue" (i know not john but john with RHCP) but that is his guitar so...step by step she's coming along lol..but i need not worry..when i have music like this...

  • I love the full circle this song creates. The beaten, broken man resolving not to give up, not to suffer under the breakers of emotional torture, but instead to try and lure another to his same rotten fate.

Or, maybe, even amend the emotional sins of the one that led him to this, by keeping his promise of emotional connection and loving embrace to whoever heeds his call.

    It's a chilling song.

  • just imagine having someone of John's quality covering your song! What a compliment

  • why Milla jovovich breakout with him?

  • @stonsummergrl18 YOU should rot in pieces and i hope YOU will never find peace in this life :)

  • Please please can someone tell me, on the second verse what the actual lyrics are? It does sound like, "were you hare when i was fox", but half the lyrics on the internet (as above in the description) contradict this. Does anyone know for sure?

  • @A55K1KKR it's 'were you hare when i was fox', it fits the song far more than the other lyrics. if you want to be very sure, check the original version by Tim Buckley

  • @vivalachevolution Thanks, i knew it was but theres alot of conflicting material out there. Thanks again.

  • @vivalachevolution oops didn't see you already said the same thing..

  • This is so amazing

  • the irony of this album is that its that its made after John got clean, yet its the trippiest of all of his work

  • @ChetZenor dont believe the hype. he's not clean. i smoked weed with him outside a bar. no bs

  • @ChetZenor the empyrean is trippy yea but his most progressive albumm is definately sphere in the heart of silence. the empyrean is different then sphere because sphere had the least guitar on it which is somthing that was became less prominent in his music. sphere has guitar as a backround instrument because of that whole elctronica style of creativity he took on, on the empyrean he returns to the guitar as a more prominent but still i wouldnt say this album has more guitar than shadows

  • I feel like tearing myself apart when I listen to something like this and think I will never be able to express myself in the same way.

  • This just takes you somewhere else...

  • this song is going to be played at my funeral.

  • I'm glad he quit the Chili Peppers, they were just holding him back I think.

  • @sphelps31 holding him back? you my friend are very ignorant

  • what kind of genre would call his music?i would call it briliant

  • @crysis136

It's more than some 'genre' of music. It's above that.

  • @crysis136 This would fall in to the ever so small genre of "Real Music."

  • Great musician yea, this is the 4th song so far i've heard from this album so far i'm just not feelin it.

  • @Dimes329 Get the whole cd, lay down, sit, whatever. Turn out all the lights. Crank volume. Close your eyes and relax. This cd cured my insonmia, probably one of the most amazing cd's i've ever listened to once you understand the atmosphere

  • @JeremyMoar You're absolutely right! I listen to this whole album almost every night while I'm in my bed with the lights out and I feel like I went from this world, to John's :) cheers

  • this is a cover, right? i think i heard this in a david lynch film.. lost highway?

  • Yes. In Lost Highway, This Mortal Coil covered 'Song to the Siren' (originally by Tim/Jeff Buckley).

I personally love John's version the most, then Tim's original; however, I didn't enjoy Elizabeth Frasier's singing...

  • anyone ever read "The Prophet" by Kahlil Gibran? i think that book coincides with many ideas john writes about. sooo check it out and i wanna know what you guys think

  • When he whispers near the end it feels like he is in the room. Amazing song.

  • No words can describe how much I love this man, his passion for Music has always been an inspiration for me. If one day I'll be a good musician it's gonna be just thanks to him and my father who has always been believing in me.

    Thanks dad, Thanks John!

  • texas chainsaw masscre

  • I believe John Frusciante is one of those few people who understands life and knows what he wants with it...

  • @TheLordHodne i only wish that i could say the same

  • love this man omg 3:08

  • i dont remember the exact interview, whether it be audio or video, but he said he wanted to make an album he could trip out to. this album def does that, personally, weed and shrooms can only help the sonic experience this album gives.

  • woah, woah, woah don't go saying "there doesn't exist a fake or materialistic bone in his body" lol i love him but the dude was addicted to heroin for most of his career and i don't know if you've ever done heroin, but one is both fake and materialistic when chillin on it

  • @TheBenShow I'm certain he means now, including the time he gave up the addiction. Frusciante grew into a person who no longer cares about money and fame.

  • @TheBenShow That may be so but that part of him died long before i was born

  • @TheBenShow that's usually my argument when i hear people on hear calling him Jesus. He's a great musician but far from perfect. From What i've seen though since he's been clean he's been a pretty good dude.

  • @rickfakkitup

Definitely: I personally believe he's become somewhat enlightened after his near-fatal situation over a decade ago. One of the reasons I feel so much passion for his music and him as a person is that he persevered, and made only beautiful creations for himself and his fans to listen and enjoy in the aftermath!

  • John's voice is so beautiful. This song makes me cry.

  • I am puzzled as the newborn child

I am troubled at the tide:

    it should be:

I am as puzzled as the newborn child

I am as troubled as the tide

  • damn im sitting right now writing a paper and I just want to smoke a bowl to this sound and reflect. I miss the good old times.

  • ^ this.

  • This is a great cover for this song from "This Mortal Coil"..

  • @isaacincabo - it's a Tim Buckley song from the sixties. not a cover for this mortal coil, albeit their performance isn't all that bad this one tops it tenfold.

  • @amitaihandler.... Really?? i did not know this!!! Thank you!!....

  • He's amazing.

  • I was shocked to find out he had an epic voice

  • im waiting to hold her.

  • It's "were you hare when I was fox" actually, not "Were you here when i was full sail" ;o)

  • foreverashcroft--- i feel you man

  • kinda hippie music but i like it

  • "Til your singing eyes and fingers Drew me loving to your isle"... HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOHN LOVE U

  • best version of this song hands DOWN

  • when J heard this song...

  • how beautiful is this, keep coming back to this song so much.. well no john in the chillis, weve been here before.......but still, i could listen to johns voice forever..such a beautiful man, ive waited, for the new chilli album, live shows, this year, kinda wont seem the same with mr F...

  • @foreverashcroft , Agreed dude.... In every single way..

  • i feel the same way

  • cocteau twins

  • john really touch my sad heart, everytime.just like tim.hes a great artist. listen to his music make the world more beautiful.

  • Isn't this covered from Tim Buckley?

  • Yes it is! Beautiful song ain't it?

  • @Enzaio Yes it is

  • I'd only heard This Mortal Coil's version before this. This is really good too.

  • thats right :)

  • Sad day, in this pathetic world of ours, If it's true I don't think Josh can fill johns shoes. Fuck mang I'm in shock

  • So was I dude,he inspired me o.O

  • best version of this song.great.

  • I don't understand why this comment got 6 "thumbs downs?" It could have been years ago when John still did pot.

  • stoned too.really stoned.

    very baked now.

and this album is the perfect thing to listen to right now in my mood....

  • Beautiful tearjacker song!!!!!

  • great!!! John frusciante did a well version of this...calms me man...

  • they're not finished man. they've just started jamming again :D

  • john fruciante has left RHCP!!!! :(

    solargesture! are you for real?!

  • yes, you should.

  • Children, you shouldn't use drugs.

  • yeah jeff did drown. there where spoken of that he maybe took suicide. but i dont know. he hanged out with his best friend at the beach and was singing and stuff. it sounds like they had rly fun. so i dont rly beleive in that suicide thing. though he wanted to take a swim with his clothes on but.. no i doubt the suicide.

  • beautiful

  • every song of this album in youtube has at least one comment from someone getting stoned in that moment

  • @Computerdisplay Haha dude every video on youtube with like 10k plus views has at least one comment from somone getting stoned in that moment lol

  • @Computerdisplay Bingoo.

  • @Computerdisplay how do u know?

  • @andrew19vato 2 years ago (when I made that comment), the album had just come out. It wasn´t hard to find all the videos made with the music of the Empyrean.

  • the insane love inside...

  • ahhhhhhhhh i've just shot a coke line with this song frusciante kicks so much ass

  • you do know that this is a tim buckley song...john just covered it.

  • really?, well tim buckley kicks so much ass

  • he's pretty talented. i'm a huge fan of his son, as well. you might want to check out Jeff Buckley.

jeff buckley drowned in the mississippi river in like 1997. he was tim buckley's son who was like john frusciante in the sense that he played guitar like a madman and dabbled in drugs but you should really listen to his voice.

i suggest a song called "lover you should've come over"

  • thanks 4 da comment man, i'll chek on him

  • fuck.... i want... too

  • i dont know man. if u want to listen to some calm freaking good music u should listen to this gentle, one of the most talented persons u can ever imagine

  • this man is the best musician in the world. and what makes him even greater is there doesn't exist a fake or materialistic bone in his body. all artists should hope to half of the passion mr frusciante has.

  • @defstoner18 not only artists but everyone on the planet!

  • @defstoner18 i totally agree. John sings this song better than that other cunt, whatever his name is.

  • @Grave8ug the guy who wrote it? heh

  • @defstoner18 "there doesnt exist a fake or materialistic bone in his body" he is human, isnt he? youre acting like youve known him for years lol "defstoner"

  • @defstoner18 I could not agree more. He is truly amazing.

  • @defstoner18 He's a great musician indeed, this song is great, the whole album is of a very high quality.

  • this is something eternal about john's cover...

i can envision people digging this up 20 years down the line

  • ....keep me warm ... and give me no answers

  • when you check the lyrics you can imagine :Im pssed.....yeah really

  • Oh my god, so mooi

  • This is too much for me.. Is incredibly amazing, I love John, there's no man in the world like him.

  • well thats a cover!! amazing amazing amazing!

he just took the song and lift it to a whole new level. thank you john!

  • The line is 'Were you hare when I was fox?' Just putting that out there.

  • yep

  • I like this music very much.

    Also the RHCP.

  • Mee too.

(I'm spanish, sorry for my very basic english.)

  • It's good to see that people everywhere love the good stuff. :D

  • =) ;)

  • One of the most beautiful songs ever written and great cover from John....R.i.p. Tim Buckley.....

  • as this is the only cover on this album i think that john must have at some point listened to this when he himself felt complete lonlieness

  • you know where i can find the video? i try to search it but with no result of this song by tim buckley!!!

  • just search Song to the Siren Tim Buckley, or Tim Buckley and it should be one of the first to show up :)

  • Jimmyfantaz: Tim Buckley, there is also popular version of Coctau Twins or This Mortal Coil, personally my favourite ones

  • who made first this song??

  • Tim Buckley in the 1970.

  • omg! this is a beautiful and divine song that thsi men have ever written

please listen it with fully hearth and find yourself in tears

  • beautiful!

  • Quit believing in shit. This is beautiful just like the original.

  • Still prefer Liz's version, but this one is growing on me. They took off Mortal Coil Song to the Siren on Myspace, why? Buckley's is too heavy w/accent. It does need a woman's voice i think.

  • i actually believe Cocteau Twin's (This Mortal Coil) version is the best. Liz Fraser's vocal is so haunting

  • goosebumps. every single listen touches me more and more. if i could sing a song with an ounce of the feeling and depth that frusciante puts into his work then i could die a happy man.

  • raw emotion

  • Comment removed

  • Mmm...I gotta say, he adds different dimensions to this song that Buckley couldn't do.

  • @spartan159 great cover, there were no dimensions that buckley couldnt do or add...

  • It's a great cover. Really ethereal.

I was playing/singing along using this video and I think one of the lyrics is slightly off:

    Instead of:

'Were you here when i was full sail'

    I think it should be:

'Were you hare when I was fox?'

  • Yeah I think you're correct, although the full sail thing kinda fits all the boat imagery better!

  • i felt the sadness in this song. it swelled my heart.

  • awesome awesome cover!

one of my favs on this album

  • so sad but perfect

  • I think the Tim Buckley version is the best and I am lucky enough to have it on original vinyl- crackles and all. It is such an amazingly composed song. I love John and what he does and why he does it. I can't wait for the new album to arrive in the post. I am so happy he's been back to work. He is, to me, the most interesting and original musician of our time. A spectacular musician that deserves more credit for his solo work.

  • I like it better than the original I've heard before.

  • There's a you tube hit of Tim Buckley doing this song on a television show back in the late 60s or early 70s. Give it a listen if you really want hear how this song should be done.

  • Although, John did his very best to cover ot.

  • It's a great cover, but I wish there was more guitar.

  • I listened to it a few times and it finally it me. I love it.

  • just perfect ... :)

  • Awesome.....there is no actual singer who has that soul, sadness and desire in his voice, you can believe in everything he sings and you feel that every word comes from his soul....great , absolutely great!

  • have you heard the tim buckley original? fucking beautiful

i was actually surprised how good this cover was tbh

i do love john frusciante but i wasnt sure if he'd do a good job

  • perfect
