TV shows actually had theme music back then...and AWESOME music at that. It's a crying shame to witness the deterioration of network television in this country over the past two decades. It's as if the executives just stopped giving a damn.
@TheDarthEddie They have stopped giving a damn. Quality is no longer a determining factor in TV or music anymore. It can be as shitty as it wants to be, just as long it lines the pocket of the executives.
@TheDarthEddie The executives are just out to make money. They only care about their bottom line, they don't seem to care about the quality of product, and they rarely if ever give the quality shows a fair shot anymore. Television, not just network television, has deteriorated over these past ten years. Back in the day, in the 80s and 90s, they knew how to put out a quality product.
Ohhh, instant memories as a 13 year old in '85...The infamous lineup was Who's The Boss, Growing Pains, & Moonlighting...I would give anything to have those days back...Shows today don't have an ounce of what these shows once did...Don't think we'll be talking about 'Happy Endings' & 'The Middle' 25 years from now!
marvelous!! Series I remember I was about 15 when I saw this series I was always in love of Cybill Lynne Shepherd WHAT A GORGEOUS!! Then the song of the film with Al Jarreau absolutely complete.
This theme was written especially for the series (by Al Jarreau and Lee Holdridge), 'Uconn'. If the series was produced these days however, you'd only hear about 45 seconds [or less] of it in the opening titles, and NONE of it in the "custom" network closing credits [promo or "next week's preview" occupying 90% of the screen, and production credits in "teenchy-weenchy print" at the bottom].
The skyline is downtown LA (the business district,a bit like Canary Wharf) Yes the Moonlighting series was epic, great music, Maddie Hayes (Cybil Shepeard) looking seriously hot, and Bruce Willis (David Addison) showing himself as a great comedy actor, and the amazing chemistry between the two of them. Oh and dont forget the BMW 635csi. Pure 80,s chic!!
few people know, but al jarreau didn't compose this despite often being credited for it - lee holdridge wrote both the music and the lyrics, jarreau just did the performance.
This song from the TV series has long inspired me as a kid and forever remains my favorite show growing up as a kid. This show was real episodic in its own way!
i love this (Graydon?) version more so than the popular (Nile Rodgers?) version in teh style of the L is for Lover LP. Better guitar work here and better sax solo also.
This was my favorite show when I was 8 years old! My whole family watched it on tuesdays and me and my sisterwere huge fans of night court which was on thursdays then moved to tuesday when moonlighting ended
Just wanted to thank everyone for their comments, and to let you know that I've put a download link in the info box. This way, you don't have to go to some site that'll only rip a low quality version. Enjoy!
The eighties were very special. People had optism back then and the music and fashion was fun. I was a happy care free teenager. What went wrong. The world has become a dreary place
@hoodie471 Yea....the 80s were great! I am a bit older than you...I was 18 when the 80s started but I often wish I could go back to the 80s too....the music was great...great videos to go with them...good shows on tv...and times were so much simplier! I'm afraid those are times we will never see again!
@hoodie471 In the same nick of time that a time machine will be invented, I'll call you and we go back to those wonderful days. ;) Because I want to come back again to that era.
This bring back memories. TNT is working to bring back "Dallas" and I remember this as one of my top four series to watch: "Moonlighting", "Miami Vice", "Dallas", and "The Equalizer". May these crazy execs never try to re-invent "Moonlighting". No one has a smirk like Bruce Willis.
@VectorFanGT I got this from the credits to the pilot episode. I do wish it was available for download somewhere, but the only version that's available comes from the later seasons, which I'm not that crazy about. It's still good, but I just prefer this version.
@metrorican i think i have this on vinyl. pretty sure, i really liked the song and the series w Bruce Willis, Cybill Shepherd. i try to find a way to make a copy of it, your copy from the credits is really good work, thanks
@VectorFanGT It's got to be on one of Al Jerreau's old albums. I mean he wrote the thing after all. As big a hit as this song was he would have been nuts not to record it.
@smorinjo I stop you there! Black people still do good music :) (I am white by the way) The main idea here is 80`s spirit was about emotional music. Take TV shows, Kids`shows, dance music, etc... Everything was about emotions. We lost that feeling, that`s all. I constantly come back to hear that song theme because it was one of the best. It just makes me feel great somehow...
Yeah I remember this song and tv show. It was in danish tv every friday night. I was a child at that time and this song reminds me of the good old days, I know it's useless looking back in time but sometimes it's nice to do that.
@ruderkonge1976 Hehe, I know what you mean. The past really is a different county isn't it. It saddens me sometimes that it's racing further away all the time.
Such a beautiful song its guaranteed to raise my spirits when I'm a bit down cause it transports me back to a time when life in general was much happier, pleasent and stable than now.

mp3ify,which is a site that allows you to rip music from youtube, check it out if you`re poor like me or can`t find some of your favorite songs you discovered on youtube anywhere else - peace!
this song was sampled(synthesized & sped up to 45rpm/minus vocals)by the psychedelic/experimental duo
'Boards of Canada',from a rare album of compiled recordings, most of which were made between1985 &1995by the brothers called"Old Tunes Vol.1"only a couple hundred were made and handed out to friends & family only but were leaked in 2000 along with 2 other rarities titled -"A Few Old Tunes"(96) & "Old Tunes Vol.2"(96)they still circulate, from time to time,to this day and can be found on youtube.
No vi la serie. Nunca he disfrutado de la "mala actuación", aquí, principalmente la de Bruce Willis. La canción en cambio me da en medio del pecho. Grande, Al Jarreau!
Ojalá alguien suba el video de Al interpretándola en vivo.
I worked in Loisianna in the seventies on lans bases oil rigs, and we had this big, huge mother of a man mountain from Alabama working as the drilling suoerintendant, and when something was brilliant, or went good, he would just come out with "damn, that's shit hot". Just came back into my head when I watched this clip, don't know why though...LOL

this song was sampled(synthesized & sped up to 45rpm/minus vocals)by the psychedelic/experimental duo

Moonlighting was a very cool show for its time. I remember doing my middle/high school homework while watching it.
