I don't think it was Peppys fault. I've had friends that broke foals with Peppy San Badger's bloodline, it ain't always turning out pretty... ahaha... the trainer should of just gotten on, then off, then on, then off, then gotten on and then finnally get on, she looks like she surely has a nice head ontop of her, she was just confused... I have trained a Peppy San Badger and it was easy!! Can I use video? :))
Well, I don't know quite what happened there. The basic method is correct. My friend's father broke his hand a few times. Then he started to use a bat because he had to do it in volume.
Me: Master in charge. You: Horse. Larger than me. Still horse.
Numerous people in the corral still helps. Horses are herd (pack) animals. You're not asking them to charge a row of pikes; only to run.
@horseangel1000 The horse saw all those people on the edges of the corral and it did make a connection in his horse brain. There's just no getting away from these primates.
This right here is classical Western horse breaking.
Still, the process lasted longer than 48 seconds; it probably took three or four days.
that guy dont know nothing if he is a trainer he was trying to neck rein the horse when it dont know how to and was trying to tell it to turn doing that and kicking it all he know how to do is make a horse buck lol
I started a filly out of a daughter of little peppy and a couple other peppy bred horses and they were all good. Peppy San Badger's couldn't have been too bad if he's the #3 all time leading sire of cutting horses...... I have heard they were broncy by a few people, but I think they were just told that by someone else. No doubt your horse is a little broncy though lol
i got 2 peppy san badgers and broke them both out. they were EASY breakers! got thrown once on the colt, but it was my fault. i don't see why they have such a bad rap, if u do the groundwork they're really easy
I agree, I can't imagine why they would have a bad rap. Peppy was a VERY EASY break. Although she bucked in this video, she certainly didn't mean any harm. If she'd wanted to harm him she could have easily kicked or stomped his head in, but she wasn't TRYING to do anything wrong as I'm sure you noticed & she didn't even pin her ears back, it was a miss understanding and not her fault! I agree with you, Peppy San Badger lines have good minds & excellent temperaments.
What a dick. I'm afraid I'm not surprised this horse is pissed off, if someone kept booting me in the sides I'd want to get them off. Try rebacking her properly this time - there are loads of articles on the net on how to do it CORRECTLY! And that meand not letting some unskilled 'cowboy' (ahahahahaha) on her back. Jeez!
i really don't think a third ride was in order with all that wind, alot of horses freak when it's super windy but idk that was Pep's problem he was just trying to say "get the heck off of me stupid!" lol
to all the dumbasses, that think they can do better, i guarantee you havent tried to start a horse like that. but if you think you can i have horses that need to be started. to the guy who got on this horse: nice try! but next time, after you climb on and the horse is lookin at you, give him a second, and then ask him to move out
Thanks! It depends on your definition of "trained." She is ridable, but I like to take things slow so she has mostly been walked. I have just now begun working her at a trot. I don't know if you would call that trained or not, but she is well on her way. She is very fun to ride!
Poor Peppy couldnt figure out what he was running from... For all she knew he may have seen a mountain lion. She probably felt anxiety, having him run away, leaving her trapped in a round-pen... Surely she wanted to follow him but she couldnt get out of the round-pen. lol!
now if that was YOUR horse would you do that? i sure hope not. this horse is most definetley not bad, she just doesnt know any better yet. are you blind or something??
Shit she can buck a bit... but your cowboy didn't give him self much of a chnce getting on like that, looked like he was unbalanced before she acutally bucked as well. Did he get back on?
He got back on and let himself be led around (pony ride). I warned him that he should "test the brakes"(one rein stop)in both directions before mounting. He didnt listen. Instead, he kicked her & then grabbed both reins. My horse was startled, confused, & shocked; The cowboy suddenly "fell out of the sky!"
I break colts for my dad ranch and I am extra super careful making sure the horse is prepared ( even with doing that u can get your ass bucked off.)Horse stading flat footed like that can hurt your ass. That horse can buck and the more they buck the better they get at it. I hope u get her broke.I have had some good success with the Barnes no buck trainer with some extra broncy colts. He offers a money back gaurantee and will buy your horse if it bucks him off.
I don't think I would really want to get back on. Though if I was to try I would find some water to try it in. THAT LOOKS REALLY PAINFUL! Man he can crow hop, and buck with the best of him, but he is soooo beautiful!!
I tried to ride Pep myself first. I can tell you from my own experience that it hurts really bad to hit the ground like that. I agree with you - After landing on my back, I didn't much feel like climbing back up to try again. That's why I hired that guy. I doubt he will want to try again any time soon. lol.
Pep is a "she" & the last comment made me laugh cuz the cowboy that hit the ground is a "he!" I worked with Pep on the ground a lot & my friend & I sacked her out throughly. She's not spooky, she's got a soft mouth, & does a "one rein stop" easily (on the ground). When I rode her for the first time, I did a one rein stop, only, she spun out from under me.
She doesn't buck when being led with somebody on her. I'd say her ground manners are OK, but it isn't fun to have a horse that's only good for giving "pony rides" lol. If I try again myself, I'm going to try it in water, like you said. Unfortunaly its too cold in the winter!
yeah NOW THAT would stink cold and ache! That is wierd she sounds sooo sweet! And the guys well, I just feel sorry for him. But yeah he ground manners look great! Do you plan on useing her for trail or jumping or anything of that sort??
She might make a good jumper, considering she jumped out of the round pen, twice. Thankfully she quit jumping fences after being moved to pasture/w other horses. I love to ride endurance, so I'll definitely use her for trail. (If her little bucking problem gets resolved lol!)
I think you will work her through it. SHe looks like she would make a excellent jumper or cross country girl. I know almost nothing about endurance so no info there! Though I would LOVE to ride at a endurance comp here at the Biltmore estate in NC!! My TB is blind but can still ride trail it might be a excellent combo for him!
She looks like a nice little mare, but she didn't look like she'd be given the right amount of time to be in the proper frame of mind for this. The fact that she took off bucking prior to being mounted suggested that she needed more time to just run around and be a horse with a saddle on her back. I'd hate to take that buck though, good thing he didn't hit the rail (I think?).
I agree, she was still "fresh." I suggested to the cowboy that he ought to lunge her and test her "one rein stop" before mounting. Instead of taking my advice, he laughed, so I offered him a riding helmet & he laughed again. I don't think he's laughing anymore! LOL
