  • We used to have pigeon when I was young and it always tasted of kidney/liver. Know I know why.

Followed this to the letter with a woodpigeon that I had shot and gave it to my, slightly shooting disaproving, wife. Tasted like sirloin. Now she keeps asking when I am going to shoot some more.

  • Thanks for sharing your knowledge skill and enthusiasm to the world for free. I can't wait to have a go at this. You just know this will taste better than any supermarket plastic wrapped stuff, and with the satisfaction of being involved in almost the entire production.

  • after shooting with shotgun do u hav to remove any pellets from the shot ??

  • Can I ask why you leave the pigeons overnight in the freezer before plucking? Are they easier to pluck?

  • @Argyll1000 personally, i leave them for no more than a couple of hours, then i pluck the feathers and remove the breast meat whilst the bird is still warm.its my preference but i find it a lot easier to do than to leave it go cold

  • Hey can anyone answer me this question, i have recently started hunting:

Can you eat pigeon around my area? its a city but i live in a place with quite a few fields, is it possible to eat feral pigeons?

  • @MrSpaceMonkeii be careful mate. ferals eat all kinds of muck off the streets. stick to woodpigeon.ferals carry disease and parasites.Given that, always check your quarry; if it looks unhealthy don't touch it. stick to the breast meat and don't open the guts.

  • You're one hell of a shooter!

  • Mark you are the best advertisement for shooting i have ever seen. Enthusiastic, knowledgeable, respectful towards the quarry and the end product i.e. the fresh free range meet. I was snowed off today, walked up to wood beside my house this eve, shot a pigeon, pup retrieved it, plucked it walking back to house, and then cooked it following your video. Delicous. Keep it up.

  • 100 degrees? thats a very low oven heat, YES?

Any oven I've used is gas so im not very sure of the convertions that way.. Would I be right in saying 100 degrees is about gas mark 1 maybe 2 at the most?

  • LOL its Jamie Oliver with a gun

  • @dunndunn1 Or rather, Jamie Oliver is Mark Gilchrest without a gun.

  • @Jrhoney

I bet there brothers really, they even talk alike lol

  • Superb Video, makes me want to get my gun out now and head into the field with a pan and stove! :)

  • I didn't see you disect the pigeon. You've gone from chopping the wings and head off to frying pieces in the pan. Can anyone go out and hunt pigeons? There's so many around here at the moment all coo cooing on the roof at 4.30 in the morning I feel like trapping a couple. Obviously I can't use a gun like you but I might use a catapault.

  • @airscrew1 Air rifle with silencer, make sure they are wood pigeons and not them mangey feral things that you see in town centres. There is no dissecting, cut a hole, just like you see on a supermarket chicken, only smaller, just wide enough for 2 fingers, then reach in up to the neck and pull out, job done. I can prepare one in 2 minutes from scratch, plucked and cleaned. ;)

  • you guya are all morons im curious why your even watching these videos..

you all eat meat. the only difference is that mark went out and cought his own meat.

free range pigeons so to say..

mark keep up the good work.

  • how is he alowed to shoot in the uk. he looks like a fucking knob aswell toff cunt

  • @sirpryde How is he allowed to shoot in the UK? Erm, probably because he has an FAC and it isnt ILLEGAL to hunt in the UK. Hey dont knock it till you've tried it..i hunt regularly and i dotn intend on stopping either.

  • @LCStreetPhotographer im not knocking hunting its a fact the uks gun laws are fucking horrendous its a stupid system all men on earth have a god given right to bare arms and hunt with whatever weapon they deem worthy. its a dictatorship when you disarm the public there is no fear of retaliation when the government fuck them over which they do everyday by destroying the magna carter.

how would you feel with supermarket culture its forced on me i don't want it i want them all blown up.

  • @sirpryde no i dont agree anyone should be able to pick a gun up. im glad gun control is as it is in the UK, Im a Royal Marine Commando and a couple of years back after an 8 month Helmand, Afghanistan tour we were invited by the USMC to take part in a combimed training exercise in NC (which we ruled at i might add). At the end we had a 10 day R&R Slot to see a bit of America.....some of the slack jawed yokels i saw that had firearms...frightening, wouldnt have let some have a spud gun.

  • @LCStreetPhotographer the point im making far outweighs your childish reasoning. don't give guns to children, most of the military today is comprised of children brought up on video games especially in America so your comment comes as no shock to myself. im pleased you can hunt unfortunately most of the population are forced to shop at tesco. i didn't ask for this maybe the military is making you stupid it can have that effect i don't think rain and the word NO are allowed in the military

  • @sirpryde i'm willing to bet that you wouldn't say that to his face. you wanna learn some respect regardless of whether you can hide behind your computer screen

  • @jbetteridge1984 why whats he going to do beat me up? he needs to learn the history and what the bullshit military industrial complex was founded on. il respect him if he respects his ancestors who probably died to hold the right to bare arms against tyrants like the british monarchy who serve the pope. how does it feel to be a poorly educated moron ?

  • its called roost shooting and no they are not driven they fly in ha ha

  • This Guy is a legend!

  • Congratulation!!! Nice Shots!!!

  • Follow my technique: attatch a hook onto some fishing line (a size 6-9

shank is sufficient) then leave some raisins to soak in whiskey

overnight. Attatch the raisins to hook and line and goto a pigeon

populated area such as a park or city centre.

Attatch the line to a nearby fence or tree and throw the lines out.

For maximum effect buy a bag ofmixed nuts & fruit and disperce some

    around your trapping spot.

  • thats cruel.

  • whats cruel is the fact that we live in a world where 300 animals are killed a second to feed the worlds richest nations hunger for food, clothing and other materials and these animals are bred in factories with little or care to their welfare taken into consideration just so we can have cheaper food in our supermarkets. Thats why i like marks video on how to catch and prepare these delicious birds more people should do the same. Screw tescos and the like

  • I have hunted most of my life and i agree whole heartedly about your approach to hunting. Catching food in a manner in which the animal will almost certainly suffer is not right. The practise of hooking birds in this way is barbaric and you should not encourage people to follow this method..........................................and yes-screw tescos!!!

  • your a mong there dead before they hit the ground..there are worse ways to die..and hes not killing them for some sort of sick fun just for food and very nice food at that..

  • ....and your a mong for not doing your homework!!!......next time you enter a debate read ALL the comments before you reply.

  • your a mong

  • Go and get someone to help you read all my previous comments and you will see just much of an embarassing fool you have made yourself look infront of everyone on you tube. You are either a very young girl or a retarded adult....you don't have to answer that one by the way. You have now been elevated from a mong to a prick.

  • your a mong

  • Thats the best you can do?.....come back to me when you have finished on your mom.

  • your a mong..i dont have a mom

  • I think you'll find you do mong......where you come from shes known as your girlfriend.

  • your a mong.

  • no, you are supposed to reply "your a mong".

That would of really pissed me off but you failed by trying to be smart..........fucking mong.

  • your a mong

  • @ledzeplad @sirpryde How is he allowed to shoot in the UK? Erm, probably because he has an FAC and it isnt ILLEGAL to hunt in the UK. Hey dont knock it till you've tried it..i hunt regularly and i dont intend on stopping either. Like Mark, i prefer the thought that the meat that goes onto my table has led a good life, TRULY free range and therefore of the highest, freshest quality and i can be pretty sure it hasnt been raised in a tiny little coupe being trampled on by its buddies. Nuff said.

  • @LCStreetPhotographer Why have you included me on your reply?

  • @jarwz Sorry mate wasnt meant to include you, butter fingers over here haha. Sorry again mate.

  • how do u relax while campig? just wrap it in tin foil ?

  • Does a standard city pigeon taste any good? There are plenty kicking about my city and cause credit crunch I've been looking for ways to eat as I'm getting tired of cats and I nearly got caught yesterday pinching a yorkie outside the local shop by the owner.

  • cats? you eat cats? did i get something wrong?

  • Yes well provided they are not wearing any identification collars or

bells then they can be classed as genuinely "wild" animals or vermin

    if I by the authorities.

  • what do they taste like? can they be compared with chicken or something? and how do you take them down? 22LR?

  • Cat is a more course meat and is more in comparison with say rabbit.

Contrary to popular belief the best cat meat can be found on specimens that are skinny as opposed to a fat cat.

The meat is far leaner and less chewy and fatty like. They taste nice in both casseroles or curry dishes eating the cat meat on its own is not recommended.

Taking them down is easy you don't need anything apart from the grip of a firm hand.

  • well, not that i would try to kill and eat a cat, but for what i experienced, cat´s can turn into real bitches if you grab them tight. i was attacked by a mean cat many years ago and i didn´t do nothing but sitting on the couch of a former "friend". she was the only one which i grabbed HARD and gave her a toss to clear up, that no matter how mean she is, i´m much more powerful. thank´s for the replays.

  • well i have 4 cats that doesnt meen i wouldnt try it...cat meat must be quite nice..i know i couldnt kill one thats for sure..were are u from cat eating is looked down apon in most places at least i thought it was anyway..

  • what a fucking mong!!

  • Nice video. I'm about to cook some pigeon, and would have ruined it had I not just learned about the relaxing requirement. The chef is currently relaxing with a beer too. Joy! This is my first pigeon.

  • seriously don't show the shooting it upsets SOME people but not everyone. if you want to show how good they are to cook, then just cook them!!!

  • I believe there is a diference between shooting for fun and shooting for a meal

If people want to live in their own little cloud castle where animals can talk that's fine by me, but to me this is how pidgeons die and another person can live from them

  • they don't have to watch the video...why the censorship? Can't people watch and hunt if they fell like it. bloody morons this days.

  • He's a damned good shot.

  • Time to get the superten out!!! yumyumyumyum

  • I found a dead pigeon yesterday, very fresh and hardly bloody at all. Since I had the salad greens ready, I cooked this dish. Delicious!

  • i cant believe you did it !

where did you find the dead pigeon ?

i mean sometimes i go on the street and find dead pigeons how can you pick in up from the ground feel it up if its fresh

    i dont get it

maybe it died from horrible disease !!!!

  • If it had been in the street or on the sidewalk, I wouldn't have touched it. Pigeons run down by cars are disgustingly flattened. But this one looked remarkably untouched save for a touch of blood in its nether parts. Given that slight hint of injury, I knew it hadn't died of disease. I decided it was best not to roast it as I did the others and just used the breast meat.

  • It looks tasty, all right, but judging from the size of the bits, he only used the breast meat. Maybe that's why he needed to catch 11 pigeons. I've never seen a machine that plucked the feathers so quickly! Wish I'd had that when I was de-feathering my birds; it seemed to take hours to do it by hand.

  • the machine is a bale m11 french thing

  • i was just wondering as ring necked doves are on the shooting list can they still be eaten?

  • Im so hungry rite now!!!

  • never tried woodie yet but next few i shoot will be going in the pan. Didn't realize it was this easy. :D Great vid

  • What is that, a Win Super X1?

  • no beretta, urika 391

  • Comment removed

  • WHAT ARE YOU DOING????!!!!????!!!! you can't just fry Pigeons in a pan! They'll have no room to swim around! You must always fry them in a Jacuzi tub, that way they get to experience their last few moments of life knowing what it's like to be a Penguin.

  • but surely once out the wrapper the chocolate would melt

  • Just cooked my 1st lot of pigeon like this after watching the video, fantastic flavour!

    Thanks Mark.

  • what about the pellets in the thing

  • they will fall out when you breast it out

  • Anyone know if you use olive oil in the pan for cooking... I want to try this soon... Thanks.

  • olive oil is fine

  • Thanks, got a freezer full of pigeon at the minute so will try it asap.

  • after shootin thm do they need 2 b put in the fridge or can they be left out before skinnin?

also is it like steak? as in it can be eaten undercooked?

  • put them in the fridge after shooting is best, then

  • Fantastic video, and it's great of you to post this with quality cooking instructions too. A true gentleman.

  • dont mean to diss but not quite as easy as that 4 the most of us who cant shoot that well. i only seem to get 3 or 4 a night if im lucky

  • thats because your a noob, thats all. overcome that and you will succeed

  • Wasted that woodland!

  • one hell of a shooter!!! wish i had 10% of his ability!

  • you can't spell slaughter without laughter

  • HAHA

  • @wannaberocker54 Although you could try...and you would be wrong :p

  • Fantistic video. Is there any chance that you will be including venison in a future video?

  • i will but it is finding tmie for filming these days

  • what part of the uk are you from? im from lincolnshire but can travel wouldnt mind joining you for a days shooting im 21 but still learning!

  • face book me, if i find some pigeons l'll get you down

  • Brilliant film. Medium-rare pigeon is the best tasting game meat.

  • Just curious, to hunt pigeons would you be using a .22 or a pellet gun/airsoft?

  • shot gun

  • Great video! Very useful!

  • keep up the good work i am new to this but have always had an interest, i look forward to shooting and preparing my own food one day

  • nice shooting mark tryed the pigeon dish and was bloody good will deffo cook it again keep up the good work

  • your Frying Pan wasn't very hot was it lol. Not only did it have a plastic handle on the frying pan but u got it out with ur bare hands anyway lol.

    Lorna x

  • 100 degrees is not hot enough to melt plastic or hands that work 16 a day!!! if it is too hot you will ruin the meat
