I used to take quetiapine and I found it did'nt make me gain weight like olanzapine. It does work really well as a mood stabalizer but I had to take 600mg and It made me sleep for 17 hours. Oversleeping is the main problem..
if you worried about taking anti-psychotics because of weight gain, then you should never take Olanzapine or Clozapine. with Olanzapine, i gained a whopping 30kg in a space of a few months. i wish to now take Quetiapine because i have found out that it doesn't have a weight gain side effect. i have Schizophrenia.
@keebaman Your Schizophrenia, did it happen anywhere near 7, 14 or 21 year old? I'm convinced our consciousness gets replaced every 7 years; sometimes resulting in multiple personalities instead of just one...
@Nomasain I never had Schizophrenia in the first place. Stupid cow didn't believe me. Any experiences I told her she thought it was all in my head. In my Psychiatrists eyes, I have a mental illness. Due to the misdiagnosis, I am 30kg heavier.
i'm wanting to change from Clozapine to Quetiapine because of the weight gain side effect of Clozapine. Clozapine is the best medication but the weight gain sucks.
I've been taking Quetiapine for a month now. My disorder is depression with some paranoia episodes. If I was to gauge it in %, I'd say it's helping 50% with the paranoia. There's no weight gain so far. However, I drink quite a lot (to cope) so there's some weight gain. I'm in UK also (bedford) Give me a shout if you want to chat and stuff. -Daz
@sumerianwarrior I'd agree, the weight thing is a problem, I appreciate your honesty. And it is so hard to tell what constitutes abnormality...I'm always telling myself that I need to stop making things up and get over it but when its a reccuring thing you know you cant just get over it.
I loved it, it induced a short hypo-manic episode by greatly increasing the effects of my other meds anything that makes me Clonazapam work better generally makes me more happy. Now I am crashing and sleepy all the time but being very creative, so far I like this shit its WAYYYYY easier to tolerate than most anti-psychotics. It doesn't make you gain weight the same way as Olanzapine but it does increase your appetite greatly, there is a difference.
@MsDetermined97 take it before going to bed then, thats what i do, it gives me a great night sleep and i dont feel like shit in the day, your going to say "yeah but my doctor told me to take it in the morning and night" fuck him! you dont have to listen to everything they say.
Hello ive been taking 100mg of quetiapine for 2 years im also on 15mg mirtazapine, i havent gained any weight, take it half an hour before going to bed, it will give you a good night sleep and you will sleep through the munchies it gives you, that why people gain weight on this, because it gives you the munchies! dont take it during the day is my advice, when your depressed or you have some form of mood disorder you can find it very difficult to sleep at times, that where quetiapine can help.
A big piece of advise is to tell the doctor and the social worker/govenment spy NOTHING. Speak to other people with the same problem and try to get on with your life.
The doctor will tell you depression is normal and the lows are prefered. But I and the others I've spoke to say the lows are the worse and the highs get you out of bed and doing something.
Give the govenment nothing! They will have us under 24 hour survailence soon. For others safety of course.
Before q I was on olanzapene and that was 10x worse. I put on 3 stones in a year and was constantly depressed and hungry but with quetiapine it's a little better instead of always being hungry I'd pig out a couple of times a week. But putting on weight isn't the worst of the side affects i've read. I think all the meds for bi polar put's weight on.
I was introduce to a women who been going through this for over a decade and she says lithium is the way to go.
If the other meds are for depression I'd stop taking that too cause that will have you flying high.
They've said I'm bi polar for the past 3 years and I've been on quetiapine for about 6 months now. The first 2-3 weeks were awful with dizzy spells and feeling sick.
