I have a 5x2x2 over 3 years have about 8 different types of tangs and it's covered in coraline algae , tangs don't eat it because it a hard shell like algae , you say that this tank is 2 years old the set up looks lovely nice fish bit over stocked nice corals but doesn't look a mature tank
Yeah, nice tank man, too many fish! The concept of schooling works in an environment where they are forced to swim alot. You're technically better off removing a few of those yellow tangs, and i'm suprised those blue devils haven't made life a living hell in that tank
way too many fish mate, but thats not me saying they dont look healthy because they look very good but in my eyes they dont look happy, they want a 6ft plus tank to swim in, are you planning on upgrading at any point?
well like i said after seeing ur video i got 3 blue fin damsels and a 11cm lunar wrasse my tank looks abit more stockes now insted of just seeing a flash evry now and then haha
holy crap them yellow tangs arnt cheap Haha and you get heaps of them nice work man my tanks been up and running for like 3 months now with 3 green chromis - yellow damsel and a blue damsel all get alone fine i think after seeing this i need more fish LOL
how come if you add the livestock slowly, they don't kill the new added fish? specially tha powder blue tang. aren't they aggressive? coz i have achilles and recently starting to chase my blue tang (dori) and i put the achilles last. advise please. thanks!
The Angel does not eat the coral. It's possible some other angels might...i've been very lucky..he only eats the food i give him and the sponge that grows in the tank.
Achilles is "known" aggressive and must be place on a very large tank - they grow fairly large .. they don't seem to school well. Yellow tangs do better in schools...PB are okay in schools too. Keep your AT in a single surgeon fish enviornment and it will be happy.
wow...great how you keep the tang aggression in check!!! gotta love the powder brown tang- one of the most stunning additions to a tank in my opinion...I had one before, but it died, now I can't seem to find another one =[
If i do a water change it will be 15% water change every 3 months. Just add RO. The parameters are within safe range. The skimmer is cleaned every 2 days. Next to this main tank is a large REFUGIUM tank with mud and macro algae - this is the key to my stability. Its sounds simple but it took almost 1.5 yrs to stablized the system..the fishes were added slowly so the system can handle the impact.
coraline? if you have 6 yellow tangs 2 purple tangs and 1 tomini tang, 1 powder blue tang, 1 powder brown tang....in this tang no "algae" can grow, including coraline - rocks are being constantly cleaned of any algae. Good observation. I do have to clean it off the glass with my brush. I have some in cracks and places where the tangs cannot get at it but those are not easily seen in this blurry video.
Aggression?? when i had 2 tangs they would kill eachother...but when I put 6+ tangs they go into a "schooling" behavior and not one can over power the others and just gives up. I've had them for over 6 months all eating well, fat and bright yellow. I keep them well fed 2-3 times a day. Tetramin pellets, nori and romaine lettuce.

how often do you clean your skimmer, and how do you keep your water parameters in check?

Also, the "dori" fish was only 1.5 inches long when i first got her/him now it's he/she is almost 7 inches long
mutjjeng 2 years ago
Whoa! That's a lot of fish in a 100g tank. You must be making huge and frequent water changes! I assume most of these fish are small juveniles?
