Was Phil Joel guest performing with these guys or was he actually a part of the band with them before/after his time with the Newsboys?

This was prior to Phil's solo effort. Phil Joel performed on CPs album. Bryan Olesen, the front man for CP was a lead guitar player for newsboys for a while. Hence the connection. Phil showed up to perform with CP and I am not sure how many other times it may have happened, because CP used to go on the road with newsboys.
