Tate was doing everything right so he had a long lifespan on his voice. Many people his age can't hit the notes he still hits. Singing one time is completely different from touring. When you tour you have to do the same thing over and over, so you cannot anihilate the world every performance.
In my view, Geoff is at his best here. A bit more comfortable in the deeper register than earlier in the 80's, but the increased depth suits him. In general, I think his vocals are good in general, but beyond belief on Rage for Order and Mindcrime.
This is, as said before, definitly not London but Köln 1988. I remember when it was shown on TV. German RTL recorded it 26.10.1988 in Köln, Sporthalle
i think it's great. I wish Chris wouldn't have left the band but I never miss a show anyways. Geoff can't hit the notes he used to but so what. It's the music we love that's important.
consider that he spent his prime years doing this shit night after night, under high volume and low tech (by todays monitor standards) conditions.
I woulod love to see anyone with a negative comment even attempt to sing his easiest tune at a fucking karaoke party and come close to his control, and emotional delivery and tone- he still sings great, although his voice changed due to genetics, age, and the wear that he put on it--
there's no cheating here.. is voice started misfiring around 97-98 and the material was weak also to suit his capabilities.. queensryche 1983 to 1993 were UNTOUCHABLE!.. end of story!
I see a alot of discussions about Tate and his abilities live, think of it this way, Michael Jordan was once the best, but game after game, year after year, it wears on you, more so when your a singer, such focus on a small part of the body, taking a beating, lets just thank God there is a Geoff Tate and we were around to hear..what he is, the best metal singer to ever live!
Freddy Mercury skipped notes lives, Geoff skips notes live. You said it yourself, nearly Album rendition Live in Tokyo. The Serial Urinator was Lars who always came drunk to say hi. Live on the road does hit you.
Yeah Freddie skipped a LOT of notes live. But serious though, performing live, unless it's like Metallica, or something that isn't that complex vocally will take a lot out of you.
@einarabelc5 Really not sure where he is cheating in this video man! I would hate it if he would make a replica of studio version. Feel of Live music is in here, that is what makes this video more special!
@dweebdotcom Lemme see. User name...Hysteric...assuming... You have all the requirements to be a true fanatic my friend. I recommend you take the time to search the word in the dictionary. That is if your education allows you to.
Just so you know. I actually took my time to meet Geoff Tate personally and buy his wine and he's my favorite singer. But I guess that being a hysteric ayatollah like yourself you rather do a typical youtube comment than ask.
Lol. Why would anyone ever compare Tate and Hetfield vocally? Tate always was and always will be a pure singer. Hetfield was a guitarist that just sang by default because they never found anyone good.
I'll take that back. He does has it. He just doesn't behaves like a celebrity. Just healthy enough. James caused Jason to leave and though Rob is not shy in anyway it's just not the same. Rob can't sing like Jason.
here i am AGAIN 9 months later, just saw i left a comment 9 months ago and my love for tate has only deepend since than! one of the best singers, one of the best bands ever, totally ahead of their time, cant wait for the new album and seeing them april 24th!!! i would NOT want to be the band that had to go on AFTER QR,WOW!!!
well in the 80's RTL broadcast a Heavy Metal Show it's called MOSH with Götz Kühnemund he also made an interview with Geoff Tate before the show and I had a tape from the show but Ilose it years later.
I LOVE Kiske as well, but find his vibrato uncontrolled and pitchy at times, especially during his early years. Admittedly, this isn't the greatest Tate performance ever; I much prefer the nearly album perfect live rendition from Queensryche Live in Tokyo, also on YouTube. :)
My God..Chris Degarmo !

Who actually wasn't that fond of Metal, but of Prog Rock. So thank Chris too 'cause his songwriting is the reason Geoff joined Queensryche.

Degarmo leaving Queensryche is equal to Steve harris leaving maiden

Darn, Goeff was already cheating back in 88. Only live version I've seen when he sings it accurately is the one on Japan. Damn that Serial Urinator.
einarabelc5 2 years ago
Are you talking about his slight Eb5 pitch issues throughout, or his skipping the Eb5 at the end of the song?

Queensryche did an amazing show.
