Hey i had a question, i just got a baby leopard gecko yesterday i was told at the store to feed it mealworms for now because he is to small to eat crickets. but he hasnt eaten anything. i have a heat lamp over its tank is it normal for them to not eat like the first day they are in there new homes? and to hide out in caves and other things you can put in there tanks? thanks :)

do u need a heat rock for a gecko? cuz i had to have 1 for my iguana years ago and is the reptile carp and cave like a must have? or can it be sumthin diff?

@gorefestggg heat rocks can cause serious burns to geckos, you should be using a heat lamp, an under the tank heater, and a UVB bulb. Reptile carpets are a must for leopard geckos. Cedar and pine chips are toxic to geckos; sand, calcium sand, and vermiculite can all cause impaction (sand gets in their stomachs and causes life-threatening constipation); sawdust or things that produce dust can cause them to go blind, etc. etc. So reptile carpet and paper towels are really the only acceptable route

@11aamiller Make sure her terrarium and water is clean. Make sure the temperature is correct. If it's too cold their metabolism slows down and they don't eat. They don't eat if stuff is dirty. Hope this helps, good luck!

i dont understand why youd feed a geko dead black crickts. my leopard geko is 18 the only thing ive feed him dead is the odd mouse. i use large crickets, locusts, wax worms ocasionaly, nutrobal, or a leopard geko supliment and hes as young as ever, shorley its better for your locusts/crickets to be eating fresh orange, carrot and greens before there fed to your lizard rather than dead .

he is not great with leopard geckos he has in the littlest tank you can have...he has no calcium powder availiable in the cage nor does he dust the crickets.....its a miracle it survived this long im suprised it doesnt have MBD

Did you ever have to make trips to the vet? I know most that live that long are usu. perfectly healthy but once in a blue moon they need to see a vet if they get say an abscessed hemipenes. My Gary has had to have a small abscess removed before and I've had to clean his hemipenes out(his male parts and the cloaca). I've even had to give him Baytril inj @ 0.05cc to clear up the infxn, they swell up every now and then, for reproductive purposes I guess & force feed him once in a while

Congradulations on your success with your gecko, Dink. That means you're an expertee in care on geckos! I didn't think there was actually anyone that had one that long. I told the zoo vet who I take Gary to that also works at a vet clinic that they live for up to 25yrs with proper care & she said no it was only 8-10 years or less. (She probably is talking about those people that didn't know that much on geckos and their care needs.)

no thats their poop-hole. if they are a boy there are bulges near the "poop-hole" and the pores near that area are dark and form a v-shape. females have none of these characteristics

Hey sorry dumb question, but I am looking into getting a leopard geko and I saw that you are feeding her a dead cricket. My mum hates crickets, and is kinda revolted by the idea of having to have living ones in the house. So is there a special reason why yours is fed dead ones, and do they have the be live crickets or can I just get dead ones or something :S Im so confused xD Sorry about this

Live crickets are arguably better than dead crickets. Most geckos only recognize prey that is moving, and dead crickets obviously don't move unless you shake them. I suggest you get a gecko care book and decide what you think is best for your new pet.

their not as healthy but you could also feed him worms ( special worms ) their good for them and arent as revolting as crickets

I look at it this way, 1 Leopard Gecko per 10 gallons. I have a 30G and have 3 leopards. They each have claimed their own spot in the tank, but they also get along well with each other. Any one of your tanks would be plenty of space. Bearded dragons get bigger, your 70G would be perfect for one or maybe even two dragons.
