  • very similar to judo

  • The Hoping could be more then tight tendons and more then keeping balance in some cases its done to prevent teligraphing moves or to distract your oponent.

As for others who are commenting about its effectiveness, I study Choy Lay Fut its a mixed Kung Fu with Chinese wrestling they call it a complete system and using these tecniques in a fight means most likely ending the fight 45 seconds or less.

Going to the ground in a fight is an invitation to get your face smashed by his budies.

  • Why does the long haired guy dance around after every technique?

  • If you will read his comments in the thread below, he fully explains this.

  • Still does not explain it. But I like how he bounces around on one leg after the throw. "Throw'em down then dance around"...ha ha ha.

  • @roningb Because he watches too many Bruce Lee movies, and wants to imitate him.

  • It's the same as all the wrestling styles. The painting is the same... only the technique of the brush is any different. Kenpo, Karate, Judo, Taiji... it's all the same... just a different brush stroke.

  • id pick any fila recognised wrestling style over this any day.

  • Chinese wrestling is not for thrashing around on the ground but the object is to throw the opponent, preferably in a way that causes injury. Traditionally, it is only one of many skills for the kungfu fighter, not a lone skill to be used by itself. In the sport side of the art, just throwing techniques are used alone. Bone, joint and neck breaks are de-emphasized.

  • Fila you know nothing of what I do you know nothing about me shuai chiao is the mother of judo and jujitsu which would mean the influence to sambo for throwing would come from shuai chiao wow fila sports I know you are Irish if you would like to settle in a gentleman manner I would be more than happy to use single stick, striking or wrestling to show you my spirit fila does not mean best it is just a organization besides I am member and coach to for sambo

  • at :45 that is judo

  • Shuai Chiao is much older than judo

  • @thebadger8 judo works 20 times better

  • The human body canmove in only so many ways. I see throws & locks that look similar to the another martial art but are indeed part of that art. For example my buddy takes Kempo & he's done throws to me that makes me think of the Aikido training I have. This doesn't mean it's Aikido it means that have a few similar moves in both styles

  • Similar to Judo?

  • similar, but more brutal

  • I have disagreed often over this little video and about SC theory I will post some clip's at the end of august to physically show my view point of SC and the understanding my sifu has given me if you care to watch and comment please do so

  • I am sure everyone here will be all eyes and ears. Please show your best stuff. A kungfu saying is: "Stand of your teacher's shoulders." That is, he will help you gain higher levels, but you must strive to stand higher with your own efforts if you can. If he didn't teach you not to bounce around, then you must practice quiet, static standing stances more.

  • Again, Pa Kua Chang will help you a lot both in your stability as well as in your throwing skills. "throwing without touching" is one of the Pa Kua skills.

  • Shuai Jiao is a combat art. The technical sparring is done with jackets to simulate the skin you'll be grabbing while throwing your opponent. It is a complete martial art (punching, kicking, joint locks and throws). Joint locks can be/are done on the ground as well as standing. In regards to UFC and the like, yes it can be used...no one's done it...yet.

  • No shuai chiao is not combat art it is martial combat it's specialty is throwing and the sport aspect is to improve this aspect using comb's and triple's if you have the skill and again SC would not do good in the ufc the rule's do not favor it not unless joint and muscle seperation become part of the point structure read the ufc rule's and foul's

  • Of course, there is a sport aspect to this art. Having fun is one of the greath things about chinese kung-fu in general; it's a lot of fun! But masterfujin has the correct view of its combat effectiveness. "Strike then throw" is a philosophy of SC that is not a sport idea.

  • Actually "strike then throw" is a sport idea. A lot of MMA coaches teach their fighters to use punching as a way to enter for a takedown.

  • wow! back in the day huh? jwang's group rox (except paul of

course, he's a mean little scrapper ;p ) funny you should

suggest baguazhang to paul considering his teacher's "love" of

    that particular art.

  • It seem's you must know me and yes I am mean. To know this about my sifu and my self you must have been a student or a person who new me in confidance I see this as a off hand compliment but if you know me you know my sifu's group from the time consisted of my students and my self up to 2 years ago this august

  • what kind of a wrestling is this :) ?

  • What I like about SC, is that it allows for throwing and fighting multiple opponents. It is not a sport, it is a martial art. Throw one down and then go get another one. Getting tangled up on the ground so that your opponents buddies can kick you in the head, is not a good idea. Throw one down and then go beat the hell out of his buddies, too. I like that idea.

  • why Sc and JJ are different .. JJ sacrifice's to go to the ground to get control to submit the oppent SC control's and then throw's and maintain's the control after the fall if the practioner want's to do a follow on move if not he damage's the oppent with the force of the throw and or the ground this is a different thinking you do not have to have ground work to finish a oppent

  • Well let's see shuai chiao is not like JJ it has a different theory and yes it could be used in sport but would not fair well on scoring the ground work in shuai chiao if you want to call it that is usually a control as the throw happen's and is maintained at the completion of the throw to execute a strike or lock If you are not interested in being nice to the attacker you dislocate a joint or cause blunt force trauma with the throw and forget about the finishing move all together

  • so I'm relatively new to shuai jiao, is it primarily throw, kind of like judo? Or is there striking? Ground work? just curious

  • there are submissions, look at my profile for 2 videos of me practicing it. its very similar to BJJ...It was the first grapple art, so alot of other grappling arts stole from it.

  • No groundwork, no striking, except in combat shuaijiao. It is pure throwing, which means it has a single definite focus, but it also means it is not possible to go from training in Shuaijiao to the UFC. The training methods for the throws are the most versatile in all folk wrestling styles, I think - all kinds of equipment, that kind of thing. For technical throwing, it seems to be one of the best around.

  • That(the long haired guy) was my teacher Paul Gerald. I was there on the stage that day, do you have any more from that part (the shuai chiao)of the demonstration? Our camera went dead and I would to have a clip of me there.

  • I like it!

  • I would like to apologize for my post I made I was not in a good mood when i posted and displaced negative feeling's to every one I hope every one will except my apology

  • An apology is not necessary. But by offering one, you demonstrate your humility and virtue, two of the necessary ingredients for great martial artists and great heros.

  • and by the way if any of you posting comment's want to talk bad of my sifu me and you will have problem...

  • So, you are the fellow hopping around? You certainly show a lot of skill level. But the comments made are accurate, the hopping indicates a weak root. Yo call it "dynamic balance" which is the correct name for such a hopping method. Without the hopping you could not stay on your feet. Please, we are all here to appreciate and disguss Chinese kungfu, not to argue and fight. Research, not arguing, is the idea.

  • I not have root when i hop i agree with this...but for me to perform a throw I have to have a root as you can see I can finish a throw with static or with dynamic balance I perfer to use dynamic it help's to release the load on my body I see it as the body is in motion up to and after a technique in this way the body maintain's mobility to maximize speed strength and force look at the 03 04 05 taiji legacy demo those are my student's and my sifu and the demo's where my creation's

  • No one denies your skill level. You will find that the hopping actualy comes from having tight tendons in your feet and lowr legs. You wear flat shoes in the demo, but if you wear street shoes in daily life with heels and arch supports, they will give you tight tendons in your feet. A good remedy is to practice Pa Kua Chang. This will give you a solid root and give you additional Shuai Chiao skills. Just a suggestion.

  • It shouldn't be transliterated as "shuai chiao" in this day and age. "Jiao" is the pinyin, and pinyin makes more sense than Wade Giles, especially to sinologists. Odd that the guy hops, but not knowing his skill level, it's hard to comment on that.

  • well I am the guy hoping ....I do it to maintain dynamic balance you know what that is

  • Problem is, they make it look too easy. It's Taiji Legacy anyway, so it's fitting that they exhibit the more flowing, internal aspects. Shame that they do that hopping thing to keep their balance. They have no root.

  • You think I have no root... I can throw a man 100 pound's more than me can you do this;;; do you even have a back ground in throwing if so let's get it on

  • wow, very gentle demonstration of a very powerful art... shame the audience don't appreciate it!

  • hahahahahaha .... you not understand shuia chiao a begineer use's lot's of force a higher level use's force and for that matter the man hit his head and have light concusion from this demo as you see no mat's I had to help him to finish some thing

  • nice

  • cool
