My favorite genre is black metal. But I feel one has to differentiate between good metal music (be it any sub-genre) and the genius that Sverd so brilliantly composed with Arcturus. God damn it, this is beyond a great metal album and is nothing less than one of the greatest pieces of art ever written. La Masquerade Infernale is just that perfect. I love how many instruments were used in this album. Arcturus have my eternal respect and my deepest gratitude.

I just heard of this band because I was looking for solo stuff from Dimmu's bass player because he does such cool vocal stuff with that band. This piece of music is very compelling.

I can't believe that I've never heard of this band. They are my new favorites!!! Being a musician, it's amazing to hear

such diversity from a band in the metal genre. The solos are fuckin amazing!!!! I love the classical influences and

Hm, I just read that "ad astra" is Latin for "to the stars."

The piece starts with more "down-to-earth" instruments such as a violin, a cornet, and a piano while the drums remain modest. Towards the end of the piece, it gets more "spacey" (similar to The Sham Mirrors) as an electric guitar and synthesizer kick in and the drums get more "metal."

I wonder if the title was chosen to be eponymous of the instrumental transition "to the stars."
