John definitely had love for Evangeline but it wasn't enough for him to let go of Natalie. I think they should have made him resolve those feelings for her before he started dating Evangeline. Perhaps it would not have turned out that way. I like both Vange and Nat, but Nat was very bratty back in the day. She had no right to ingratiate herself but it does take two to tango and John was letting her do it.
