The chords are the top three strings of A, D, and E. Just like the powerchords. Then walk the base line up, over, and back to the root note. The improv is Am and Am pentatonic. (If that helps.)

@TheGent85 So close! I live in Vancouver, a metropolitan centre. I haven't been in a Starbuck in over 4 years and I've been unable to work steadily due to spinal injury and nerve problems for the past two years. Since I've been off drugs, I've made quite a bit of music (working on my fourth album) and written several books: all very dark. I have been calling this a fusion of blues-jazz and Romantic poetical form: 'gothic jazz'. I think that's what it is. What would you call it?

I love the Chicago Blues (Howlin' Wolf being the origin of Rocknroll as far as I'm concerned) and John Lee (Detroit) but I am obsessed with the ragtime guys (Skip James, Leadbelly) and Son House. I taught myself classical guitar, so I don't think I'll ever do it like them. That's okay. I'll do it like me. Somebody sent me a rad blues documentary on youtube. I'll send it your way.

The way I think of this music I'm making is like the old blues of Son House with the poetry of Lord Byron or Percy Shelley (the 19th century gothic poets). I think you're think right that it doesn't bounce like a blues rock, but I think it is still blues.

pretty cool. i like the whole concept you have going. i thought this song was pretty awsome, but i feel like you were forcing your blues voice a little bit. i think it would sound better if you sang with more of your normal voice. also, i think a little more bending and syncopation would sound better, i heard some, but more would be better. still, you stand out to me among all the other youtube singer songwriters.

It's more fun for a few reasons: 1) It sounds better, 2) It's on youtube with burlesque photos of the woman who inspired the song. The album this song ended up on ("Street Corner Gothic") is free on the site. And the next album will be free-leased pretty soon too ("Booty Music for Zombie Swingers"). This is standard. I guess the walking baseline and the pick-up note are what make this sound different than most metal riffs. That's E-G-C-A, and I pluck the higher part of the chord before the bass.
