  • the most impressive tank i have ever seen

  • some really good stuff here

  • Woah frickin amazing!!!!!!

  • how did you manege to have that many clowns in one tank.??

  • Very nice, those chromis need to watch their step :-)

  • BUY ALL THE THINGS!

  • Okay hopefully someone can help me, i just bought an anemone and it's been doing Great. But i was feeling it i noticed some slime and when i brought my hand out of the water my finger smelled AWEFUL and still does....is this bad?

  • if i was that tang i would be trippin ballz... nice tank :)

  • Great video!

  • how do you feed those anemones

  • pience of fuckin shit compared to mine. my tank looks alot better than this piece of ass you dick loving hore

  • *boring comment has to be removed*

  • @mroccoralman - Wow you need to go to anger management or something........ and also learn how to spell. The aquarium looks beautiful Mobert.

  • this is so cool!.. =]

  • I SEE DORI

  • Beautiful.......That looks like a nerve racking place to be a Chromis!!

  • @tundrashaul2324 Thanks for the comment, actually, the chromis did not seem to interact with the clowns or anemones at all.

  • @Mobert Great aquarium! is it yours? I read that clowns have a coating on them which tricks the anemone into not detecting the clown as prey and therefore accepts the clown in a sybiotic relationship. The study also removed coating of a clowna nd anemone killed it.

Anyhow, EXCELLENT aquarium. How long did it take to make this?

  • @agenthelios1 Hi, thanks! Yes, my aquarium. The clowns were born Aug 2005 so they are almost six years old now but I got my first rose anemone in 2001 and it has grown and split exponentially since then. I got my original green anemone in 2006. They grow and split pretty regularly with the right conditions.

  • @Mobert Hi there, I'm very impressed with your anemones. I have a rose anemone that split into 6 but haven't done much lately. What are the "right conditions"?

  • what an amazing set up.

  • Incredible work. Favorite reef tank Ive seen so far on youtube. Keep up the good work.

  • Who says you can't keep more than two clowns together without them killing each other off....just take a look at this wonderful system to see that he has multiple clowns and all seems very happy :) Great system btw!

  • @admirehomes Thanks, but I want to clarify that these clowns were born and raised together from the same clutch. You cannot normally put more than one pair of clowns in a tank.

  • Unless you buy all the new clownfish and place them in a tank like this for the first time right?

  • @avillax These were not just clownfish that were put in the tank at the same time. They were born and raised together so their aggressions and heirachy was worked out while they were babies and not killing each other. This is different than putting juivenile clownfishes together who have not already established a pecking order.

  • @Mobert will they kill eachother if you put more than 1 pair? why?

  • @happieeyore google "more than one pair of clownfish" and you will get lots of opinions. In my experience it does not normally work. Clownfish are cute and friendly but will usually be quite vicious to other clowns.

  • Thanks for your help. One more question for you. What do you think about led lights to grow anemone. Especially a Ritteri Anemone

  • @hfresenius11 They make some very good LED lights now. I will probably look into them next year when it is time to replace bulbs again or definitely if a ballast burns out. I think there are some hobbyist at Reef Central who have been keeping the hard to keep carpets under LEDs. Pros for LED's are no bulbs to replace, less energy costs, quieter, less heat output to the tank and the room. Cons are longevity of the light fixture and availability of replacement costs and long term tank health.

  • Great job on this tank. I got two questions for you. What are you using or doing to keek nitrates and phosphate down.

  • @hfresenius11 Hi, thanks. I wet skim and top off with salt water. I check the salinity every few days to judge how much salt I should dump in the top off container. For more information, go over to Reef Central and search "wet skimming water changes".

  • @lepardgecko120 Now that you have updated your phone, delete the app again and re-download it when you have a good connection (wi-fi is best) and give it a try. That is what I do on my phone if something is not working right. Your old software probably didn't know what to do with the app when your first downloaded it.

  • @Mobert do clownfish posses antivenom or thick scales? any other fish types will die upon touch... how do they do it

  • Awesome tank! Makes my 120 look like a NOOB tank.

  • Mobert may i start by saying this aquarium is by far the most impressive beautiful work of art ive ever seen! well done!

    Few quick question:

How come the anemones are not at war stinging each other ?

How often do you feed the anemones and what do you feed them?

Whats the perfect lighting conditions for these anemones? e.g watts and how many inches from the surface of the water are the lights?

    Congrats again ;)

  • @andyquirkey Hi, thanks, the anemones are all the same species and are clones from one original Rose and one Green Bubbletip anemone. The magnifica did not touch the bubbletip anemones. I feed the tank everyday but I only target feed the anemones a couple a times a week. I can not target feed them at all and they will do fine. I like them to grow so more food.... My lights are 3x400 watt 20K XM single ended metal halides with 2x160 watt VHO's on a 210 gallon tank. (cont. on next reply)

  • @Mobert My lights are much more than needed for survival but they are much more colorful under more wattage. I feed them homemade mixture, following "Eric Boreneman's Coral Recipe" as close as I can get it. (google is your friend) You can see in the videos I have them really close to the surface and all the way to the bottom of the tank. Tank is 29" tall. Check the other videos that I have of me target feeding the anemones. Watch your water parameters with the heavy feadings.

  • Ok... this tank is beautiful! there is a nemo and a dory!=D and lots of marroon or tomato clown fishes. andlots of anemones I wish my tank was liek this!=( mine is just a plain 125 gallon tank with only 3 fishes. A tiny dory, a nemo and a tomato clown fish. (plus some live rocks)

  • @soulskyela :) Thanks so much for the comment! The clownfish are True Perculas. Maroon and Tomatoes would fight if you have more than a pair.

  • how do u keep the anemone from moving into the sump hole?

  • @brutbear The return pump from the sump is a Eheim 1262 which is not very strong for a 210 gallon tank with two overflows so even though the anemones are sometimes on the overflows, they do not get sucked in.

  • I want to get a Ritteri Anemone soon too. Do you think 104 watts is enough for a 24 inch deep 55 gallon tank? Let me know what you think, because I heard they need a lot of light. Please Reply, Thanks!

  • @AbrahamLuevano Honestly, I do not think that is enough light. Mine was a few inches under a 400 watt metal halide with 2x160 watt VHOs. 104 watts is probably not enough to keep any clownfish hosting anemone.

  • the temp @ 78- 84 an't that high.

  • wow...beautiful, great work

  • Beautiful setup. What are your water perameters?

  • @ryukyudiver1 Ammonia 0, nitrites 0, nitrates <20 (the lower, the better), 4 tunze streams for in tank circulation and Eheim 1262 return from the sump, lights are 3x400 watt 20K XM metal halides, plus 2x160 watt VHO actinics, plus led night lights. Temp is 78-84 degrees F depending on season. No chiller, just fans.

  • UH which one is Nemo?

  • @waaahcryniglets The one with small fin :D

  • I notice that all of your anemone stay close to that one side of the tank. Is this something that you did, or did they just decide that they like this side. It would be really cool if you had some kind of trick, because my anemones seem to always like to spread out and dont look near as good as yours.

I also noticed what looks like some type of macro algae in the middle, i am just starting a new lagoon tank and have never seen a macro like it, what kind is this i like it.

  • @badvegan Hi, do you mean in the back rear? That is Nepthea coral. The only macro algae I have is in the sump. (Chaetomorpha). The anemones tend to travel upwards towards the light. They will only travel laterally if they can touch and hold on before proceeding across. The return from the sump is at the center back of the tank and the Tunze Stream Powerheads pin the anemones in the corner. If you don't want to dedicate a corner to the anemones, then build a berm/tower surrounded by sand.

  • Beyond amazing looking tank!!!

  • Great Tank. Please let us know the chemistry of your tank and ho do you prepare your reef food? Usually my experience with anemone have not been so got rather disasterous. One of my anemone when dead killed all my wishes over night! Perhaps your good advise could work...

  • I understand that clownfish can be tank raised. Perhaps you should state that in your description. I've seen the destruction of a coral reef with my own eyes. Last week I saw a rare (because of being collected for tanks) fish. The next week a fish collector was there, breaking the coral and now that fish is gone from the reef forever, where it could have reproduced and lived out its life in peace. To know that this fish is now enslaved with no chance of ever living a natural life is sad.

  • Comment removed

  • Not cool! Coral reefs are being decimated by fish collectors for aquariums.

Search for "Hawaii Audobon Society " on youtube to learn whats going on.

Aquarium tanks mean death for fish and destruction of our ocean environment.

  • @konafishlover Thank you for your comment. However, these clownfish and anemones are tank bred and raised. Also, most all the corals in the tank are also tank propagated and are many generations ago removed from the ocean. Home aquariums maybe the last remaining source of these beautiful animals. It is easy to blame the hobbyists but in most cases, we do not know why coral reefs are suffering.

  • @Mobert if you go to his page and check resent activitty he has posted that same comment on all the trully amazzing tanks on youtube konafishlover is stupid and doesnt relize that most clown fish and corals we by today are propagated i have to say again your tank rocks

  • @finger11yo Thanks for the support. I watched the video he was referring to and it is full of false, misleading and inflamatory information. That Audubon Society that sponsored the video should stick with birds. My clowns had their 5th birthday on Aug 29th, 2010. Clowns in the wild are lucky if two of their thousands of offspring make it to maturity.

  • @Mobert wow that is very impessive how do you get the anenomes to group like that and stay on that side of the tank and where do u buy youre rofters

  • @finger11yo The powerheads and return pump (center back of the tank) keeps the anemones in place. They do not like to go where the current is too strong. Rotifers are from Reed Maniculture.

  • @konafishlover At least the fish in the home aquariums will be safe from companies such as BP!!! The reefs are going to hell in a hand basket by way of pollution, and environmental changes. Fish taken for the hobby are cared for, and loved. And yes the government does regulate the number of fish taken from the oceans, as well as corals and live rock. If you don't believe me, then google it!

  • Beautiful tank btw, I just sold one of my Anemones because my tank size is a 55 gallon and I wanted to add a few more fish. I didnt want them to have to sacrifice swimming room for a huge anemone since they cannot touch it. So I am down to 1 anemone, wish I had a tank like yours; I would have a lot more.

  • Nice tank, where did you get the music?

  • @philipcloud123 The music is by Douglas Morton from the album Mysteries of the Deep and available at iTunes or CD Baby. Links should be in the description.

    Thanks!

  • You must go through a ton of fish food feeding the fish and anemones

  • @Siwulam I use a lot but since I make my own mix following Eric Borneman's Coral Recipe, the cost is not too bad.

  • Some day i too will have this!!!

  • are you able to grow enough copes in your main tank and sump for your mandarin? Or do you have some sort of refugium?

    BTW very awesome tank!

  • @badvegan I do have a refugium but I think I have enough live rock to in the display tank for pods without one. I do add phyto to my food mixture so that might also help with the pod growth. Thanks!

  • i cant seem to find a green bubble tip anenome at any of my lfs i find rose but not green are they harder to find and do you think they ship well if so were do you recomend buying it on line at

  • @finger11yo The green variety was much harder to find than the Rose BTA. A lot of them are not as vibrant or vibrant ones turn brownish and dull if not kept under enough light. I have never shipped nor bought online but from what I understand, a healthy BTA ships much better than the carpet anemones. Best bet is your local reef club if you have one.

  • @finger11yo Really bright Green BTA's are hard to find and hard to judge even when you see one as they are different in pictures and different under different lights. It's almost like you have to bring it home and see how it does. They are brighter when kept under brighter lights though.

  • is there a female amongst all those clowns? there must be a leader of the pack

  • @morty696 One pair has laid down several clutches of eggs. Otherwise, only the clowns know if there are more females in the pack.

  • did you breed all these clowns

  • @finger11yo These were adopted when they were 14 days old---right after metamorphasis.

  • Fantastically!!!!!

  • Silly question, but are you using Micron socks in your sump?

  • @bulldog111111 , not silly question. My sump came with double filter socks but I removed them because they required too much maintenance and caught anthropods which I want more of.

  • NEMO !

  • Sweet tank bro ^^

  • you must love clowns and i like how they arent killing each other nice job with that

  • what size is your tank? beautiful just simply beautiful by the way

  • @DomBogey The tank is a 210 gallon All-Glass-Aquarium with a TruVue sump. Thanks!

  • i dont think u have enough clownfish

  • That's amazing!

  • take out about half of those anemones and sell them, pay off the entire tank

  • this is like bloods vs criptz turf war

  • are your mandarin fish healthy?

they are very difficult fish to take care of

  • @HLGREAL I have had the Mandarins since Dec 2006 and they look fat and healthy. They are not difficult if your tank is large and/or have lots of copepods (tiny sea bugs) in the tank. The pods come on the live rocks and starter cultures can be ordered from online venders. You can see the pods swarming at night with a flashlight.

  • Very cool tank, looks very pricey

  • verry nice

  • The Anemone setup is quite impressive good job and good luck....

  • How Many Of The Blue Fish U Got AND ALL OF UR FISH ALL TOGETHER

  • @TheHCES Do you mean the blue Chromis'? I have seven of those. I also have in the tank:

27 clownfishes, 2 mandarin fishes, 1 royal gamma, 2 banggais, 1 pajama cardinal, 1 blue tang, 1 yellow tailed blue damsel, and 1 flame angel. There are 12 newborn baby banngais in the refugium.

  • Now from what I've heard, anemone success is either a hit or miss, do you have any idea as to how your's thrived?

  • @vegetarianbudgie 99% of the time the key is getting an healthy anemone from the start. Given that, then you need great water quality and tank conditions, especially for Magnifica's. BTA's are not as picky but they like good stable tank conditions also.

  • how the hell do they not get gobbled up by those beasts, usually then like close up real fast on fish and crabs, do they like know its a clownfish and respect it or something?

  • @dl432112311 Clwoonfish pair with anemones, they have a mutualistic relationship. They help each other.

  • the anemones doesent make quimical war..??

  • @kikeronaldo no, not when they all came from the same anemone.

  • that is nice to watch

  • 5/5 for me wow to this tank! Amazing growth when others tend to have trouble with anenomes, at least on the posting boards they do. need a full tank shot at the start of the vid jmo :) this is so professionally done, proof is in the reproduction

  • thank you for your input!

  • I'm assuming you've had a lot of luck with them breeding?

  • some

  • how big is that tank

  • 210 gallons

  • how many anemones did you start with?

  • 99% of them came from one original rose and one original green anemone.

  • Wow! thats amazing! I have a goldbanded maroon clowfish and he will attack your finger if you put it anywhere in the tank.

  • My Clarkii did that. Don't know how many times I banged my arm jerking it back!!

  • Hey! Very beautiful tank :) 5 stars :D but i was wondering if you could give me some advice on keeping a Ritteri anemone (magnifica anemone) thanks :D

  • I think the first big thing is to get a healthy anemone to start with. Never buy one with a gaping mouth or a limp looking on. Next, is perfect water parameters. No ammonia or nitrities and nitrates as low as possible. Mine is under 10. To prevent them from roaming, put the anemone on a pillar directly under metal halide lighting. The flow should be enough to move the tentacles back and forth. Best of Luck!

  • AWESOME TANK!!!

Don't you have troubles with ur clowns fighting each other?

  • No problems with fighting as theses clowns are from the same clutch and they established their dominance order early. This would not work with more aggressive clowns. Probably only with Percula, Occellaris or Skunks from the same clutch.

  • cool! THANKS!!!!

There shure are a tonn of anemones! Wat type are they? RBTA?

  • They are Rose BTA's and Green Bubble Tip Anemones.

  • thanks!

  • IS it ok If I can use a max jet 1200 and a koralia power head 2 for my bubble anemone in a 36 gallon bowfront reef tank? does the reactor phosban helps to renove white spots from every reef fish in the aquarium right? is it ok If I can use just a return pump for my soft coral reef tank?

  • Powerheads are OK as long as your anemones are well established and not likely to wander into them. Otherwise, you need to use powerheads where you can protect the anemone from the intake. Anemones like good water movement above them, not at their base. I do not use a phosban reactor and cannot comment on that but I doubt if it removes white spots from fish. What do you mean use a return pump? What else would you use from the sump?

  • In the sump u can use micro algae and live rocks and sand? I mean the return pump from the sump?

  • That is really cool

  • Wow, Badass! so is that a crap load of anemones near each other?

  • yes

  • Your tank is sooo unique. It's truly incredible. Do you have any other tanks with corals? Excellent job. Very peaceful. :)

  • I have a 29 gallon BioCube and lots of baby clownfish grow out tanks. You can see them in my other videos.

    Thanks

  • what are all their names?! :P Looks cool! Do you have any problems with anemones moving around?

  • names....LOL

They pretty much stay where they are suppose to. The return is aimed down the center back of the tank to keep the bubbletip anemones from going to the other side of the tank.

  • what type of lighting do you have? How often do you change the water?

  • 3x 400 watt single ended halides (XM bulbs) plus 2 x 160 watt actinic VHO's. Continuous small automatic water changes. Look up my threads at Reef Central, username Mobert.

  • Stunning, nice perc's,no problems with aggression either looks like, mine host in Ricordea's but your anemone's are way cool could sit and watch that all day

  • Gosh the only way to listen to this music is by buying the Mysteries of the Deep cd online. I was looking all over for digital purchase downloads too =( hehe. CLOWNFISH for president. hehe.

  • I can tell your fish host anemones do you sell any ???

  • Sorry, local sales only.

  • mobert your thread on RC is still going strong! and it appears your tank is as well. all the best, rastarainy

  • Thanks!

  • how many ocellaris clownfish u have in their? if its tank raised right it might host a bubble anemones too? because I am going to get another tank raised ocellaris clownfish on monday maybe so my other tank ocellaris clownfish will swim together with the new ocellaris clownfish tank raised? if my 2 ocellaris clownfish lay eggs in the future right it might kill the baby ocellaris clownfish right?

  • I have 23 to 27 true perculas in my tank. They are tank born and raised and have no trouble hosting. It is impossible for eggs to hatch and grow up in the tank. The newly hatched larvae must be removed or hatched in a separate tank and fed live rotifers.

  • awsome tank... but dont the nems sting each other as there soo close to each other?

  • No problem with putting the same species anemones together.

  • nice tank

  • dit is zo mooi :O ik heb nu een resun die ik later misschien ook zo maak.

sorry i speak verry well englis

  • gogle translation:

this is so beautiful: O I have a resun later I might also make

    Thanks!

  • What is the secret to keeping anemones so healthy?

  • proper water, lighting and flow

  • oops I meant top off with clean salt water!

  • How much do you feed the tank? must be a massive bio load. Do you dose vodka or use ozone? Not sure how anem's react to either. Had a 400mm+ carpet for a few years before trading it.

  • thanks timmysli for the comments! I WET skim and top off with clean fresh water instead of doing water changes. I do have Ozone but haven't run it too much the last years as I got tired of reloading the air drying beads. I have never dosed vodka. I don't feed anemones but a few times per month as they would grow very fast if I do. The clowns get fed twice by an Eheim fish feeder with Spectrum pellets.

They are very happy when I feed the anemones and they get very round.

  • wow I doubt theres many people around that could create such an awsome setup and keep it running like you have.

    Thanks for the vid!

I was setting up a breeding system but after watching your vid yourve got me thinking lol

    amazing tank

  • *inspired

    stupid fat fingers

  • LOL thanks!

  • man this video and your tank inpiried me to get back into the hobby. Thanks alot

  • Thank you for the comment. I appreciate it. One of the pairs just laid their first clutch of eggs last night.

  • lolz look at all the clownys! i love this vid and your tank, you must never get sick of watching them. I think they all coexist so well together because youve simulated a reef/ocean environment pretty well. Awesome tank!
