  • Bobby Darin was one of the top singes of his time. It is quite sad that he died so early.

  • WHAT A GREAT RENDITION OF THIS SONG, PROBABLY THE BEST BESIDES THE ORIGINALS.

  • i am glad i had the chance to be around when bobby darin was a versatile talent

  • I once read that the ONLY performer whom Sammy Davis Jr. REFUSED to follow was BD:). Darin's performance is all the more extraordinary when we realize that he is here a dying man -- this was recorded in the spring of 1973, and Bobby died that December ---

  • @stevevandien Yes thats correct...great comment :))

  • I'll always love Bobby Darin and I really miss him.

  • I never knew what a great voice he had! I think was an amazing singer.

  • Brillant

  • One of the most versatile singers of the third quarter of the last century. Too bad he went so soon and didn't sing the last quarter of the century. He would only be seventy-five today!

  • @gameruiners007 yeaH im only 15 and i only listen to like richie havesn omgg hes betetr than ll those new bands today dont even sing proper or owt

  • Why is this show not repeated endlessly on TV? I would say Darin was the best performer to come out of the US, but he appears to be Sammy Davis Jr's twin brother, so we couldn't split them apart.

  • @anthonythirteen Because the Darin Estate will not release the 26 episodes of the Bobby Darin Show. I wish they would. There are a lot of Bobby Darin fans out here who want to see those episodes!

  • Beautiful Bobby - to listen to and to look at.

  • Great singer and witty performer, played piano, guitar and harmonica. There was no end to his talent.

  • The internet is slowly becoming a terrible place and a blight on human kinds existence for many many reasons. HOWEVER, I have to admit that allowing great music and artists like Bobby Darin to become immortal has to be a great thing. Long may it continue. Bobby Darin & loads more would be truly amazed at this youtube thing! These great people will truly live forever on here. Wonderful entertainment value. Oh yeh and as for the man himself ...... LEGEND.

  • @AdelaidePoms I find the wonderful thing about the internet is that you can ignore it if it irritates you.

  • Sing it Bobby...can listen to this guy singing all night and nobody goes to the depths of "Bridge Over Troubled Water" like Darin...truly a master, Bobby is the greatest and what a loss another legendary wonder gone too soon...miss you Bobby but we are truly blessed with what this genius left behind~RIP

Bobby D baby. THIS was The Guy.

  • Fantastic! This builds to a powerful finale!!

  • Bobby Darin rendition of Bridge over troubled water is just beautiful..

  • Bobby! Nothing else to say...

  • @jozzi1 Yup! : )

  • Any idea of why they had multiple harmonicas sitting out there in different keys?

  • @NoirFan01 Showmanship.

  • Second to only "The King"

Just lately come to know him - how cool is he....!?!

  • Is there a better version of this song anywhere? I dont think so.

  • @GusMcC as great as bobby is i think Elvis's version is 100 time better in my opinion

  • @mrplatinum919 never elvis is overrated

  • @GusMcC No :)))

  • All I can say is WOW.. amazing performance!

  • oops wrong key harp at 3:17 there from bobby, the backing singer on the left notices straight away and says something like "duff key" but what a recovery from the master!!!!!!!

  • Someone with influence will twig hopefully sooner than later that nearly 40 years after his death its time to put this guy right up there with the absolute best 'performers' of all time. God what would this place be like if he had lived. Better I'm sure. What a singer, what a performer.....what a performance.

  • Harmonica too? Was there an instrument this guy couldn't play!?

  • TALENT LIKE THIS ONLY COMES AROND LESS OFTEN ,I SAW HIM AT THE LATIN CASINO IN PHILLY 1971,AWESOME

  • Brilliant!!!!!

  • Bobby and Elvis do the best versions of this song.

  • Comment removed

  • I love Bobby Darin.

  • Simply Brilliant!!

  • WOW Fantastic..

  • @CallumJStewart The gist of my comment, boiled down for easy consumption, is that you, Cal, are a moron.

Frank was a giant with Dorsey way before he got mixed up with the Mob [ that's capital M, fool]. They possibly helped him get the part of Maggio but he hit a homerun---as in Oscar.

Darin knew what you do not.

Damn, you are a dope of the old school.

No wonder the world is such a mess.

    Go read a book.

  • @oysterjoe Frank also avoided military service in WW2, weighted about 95LBS soaking wet yet carried himself as if he was tough guy because he suckered punch reporter who was not looking

  • @CallumJStewart Best to keep your mouth shut concerning a guy you are obviously ignorant about.

One more erroneous comment with spurious references to Franky and the mob and we will send Geno and Guido to your domicile.

    It won't be pretty!

  • THe most wonderful version that i never heard !!!

nobody could sing this song , like him ♥♥♥

    ♥GLADYS ELIZABETH♥

  • @haldenver Simon "aint" Dumb he'd never pass up a natural like Bobby.

  • @haldenver That's what I keep wondering WHERE ARE THE NEW "DARINS"

  • You're RIGHT this is the guy FRANK SINATRA "WANTED TO BE"

  • @THEMOJOMANsince1959 Are you friggen nuts?

Bobby had tremendous talent. That said---he wasn't anywhere close to the Chairman!

Please tell me how many Academy Awards that Mr. Darin had.

Not to mention how many times he didn't nail Ava Gardner or Mia Farrow.

I LOVE Bobby but let's keep it real ---please.

  • We were flicking around channels some Sunday night and came across this on PBS. I had heard the name Bobby Darin but will confess I didn't really know the guy. He could sing for sure. I should rent the Kevin Spacey biopic.

  • @ChewYourGrouse .... Rent it? BUY it mate - it is fantastic. Spacey is clearly a fan to have nailed the persona and songs the way he did. It's one of them movies you'll never tire of watching.

  • wow He was one of a kind.

  • I think Bobby and Elvis did the best version of this song.

  • I have to find and buy that DVD!!! The finale of the song is chilling! WOW

  • Viva Bobby!!! Absolutely gorgious.

  • The best and most emotionally draining version of one of the most beautiflul songs ever written. Thank God for audio and video tape, so we and future generations can enjoy. I miss you Bobby.

  • Bobby Darin received the GRAMMY LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD TONIGHT! His son Dodd Darin gave a beautiful speech on his behalf. Bobby was a versatile, multitalented genius!

  • You're so right apollowoman. Dodds speech was great. The actual award show, however, was another matter. I watched the awards just to see that award. I was very disappointed. They rushed through the award like they had a plane to catch. Ringo acted like he was bored and didn't want to be there. Pathetic. Whoever wrote or directed that part should be ashamed.

  • Bobby:

Te equivocaste de ármonica (wrong choose pitch harmonica ) jajajaja.

Pero no importa porque cantas muy bién.

    great singer!!!

    "Rene Moris"

  • Bobby Darin was on a league of it's own. He was the best entertainer, performer, singer, song writter, actor of this century. His legacy will always live forever. No one can raplace him. An Icon among Icon's. We LOVE YOU BOBBY DARIN. May God give you the Peace and Rest in Heaven.

  • There is no one like you BOBBY really!!

    great great perfomance ************ G E♥

  • I love this version more than Art Garfunkel's and

I am crazy about his. But this one gets in your

    spine.

  • a GRAMMY about time too BD's still swinging

  • Even the way this guy stands while singing is soulful.

A pity that so many people are unaware of him.

They should slip this vid onto "American Idol" unannounced so's people can, finally, see REAL talent.

  • @oysterjoe right!

  • Man, that's soulful.

  • GRAMMY ALERT! Bobby finally gets the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award Jan 30, 2010!

  • GREAT!FANTASTIC VOICE!!!

  • This is the type of stuff that we had on TV back in the 60's.

    What the hell has happened?

  • @oysterjoe Man oh MAN do I agree with you!!!

  • This is the most soulful version of this song ever! Bless Bobby Darin 1936-1973.

  • WOW what a talent..this guy did this song so good 10 out of 10 for me..

  • Wow.

  • What a great talent he was! I wish I'd known; I wish I'd paid attention while he was with us. Never knew!

  • oysterjoe nice to see the men shining

  • My landlord threw my stuff out the window once. He shortly followed.

    I did 6 months.

  • LOL Oysterjoe.

  • Catherine,

Look at my comment 2 months ago just above the one you posted off of-- the improv line of the landlord throwing the bag out the window--Darin grew up in poverty and the falsetto at the end--you see I think that his version fits the song best --yet I listened to Simon and Garfunkel over and over and over again with this song. It really depends on your mood. Music is good for the soul.

    Je t'aime tres forte,

    Folle Demoiselle

  • I'm a Bobby Darin fan forever--way ahead of his time with the basic pop, soul, blues and jazz accents to his music. No other spontaneous performer like him in his time--Celine Dion is his counterpart on the female side today, but he had the nerve to start the trend..God bless Bobby Darin!

  • Thank's for sharing this with me Bev.

    It' so good *************

Tonight I meet another awesome singer, because of you, my US friend.

    Catherine, from Québec ♥

  • I knew that you liked this song as I do. We share a common interest in Simon and Garfunkel-- different version of Art Garfunkel's, yet fantastic too! If you see above comment--Paul Simon thought Bobby sang it correctly. I don't know, I think there's room for both versions. Mack the knife has been sung by the original--Darin and others like Michael Buble. Love both versions--am a Buble fan, but Bobby for me--he's genius! literally IQ around 200 OMG! I miss Darin.

    Love ya Cat,

    Bev

  • 124bjw - AGREE,

about BOBBY and BUBLE - LOOOVE 'EM BOTH!

  • Both Bobby Darin and Michael Buble are vocally so smooth; the jazz element they bring to crooning is phenomenal because it's spontaneous and natural. Bobby knew what he was doing and Buble is unique to "old school". I don't think there are two singers who had better stage presence or loved what they did anymore than those two. I love both of these singers too. Thanks for commenting.

  • Been a Darin fan for 50 yrs, never heard this,

    quite good!

  • When evening falls so hard, I will comfort you,

    I'll take your part,

    Oh! When darkness comes,

And pain is all around . . .

Beautiful words and a wonderful performance... Thanks my dear friend Gladys for sharing and bdfan62 for posting!

  • So Beautiful....

  • Simply extraordinary. How he had that breath control with his heart ailment is beyond me. Thank you so much for posting this, bdfan62.

  • Bobby's soulful, bluesy interpretation of this vs Art Garfunkel'S-sweet crooning- both are great sounds, but Darin's fits the lyrics best. I love the improv line-the landlord throwing your bag out the window-Bobby grew up poor. Also love the falsetto at the end. I miss Bobby Darin. He was the coolest ever!

  • pure talent todays performers just don't compare

  • For a real hoot see Bobby Darin What's My Line. He did awesome impressions, his Dean Martin rocks!!!

  • From this same venue he did two other fantastic performances, please see "Come Rain or Come Shine" and Bobby Darin-The Last Medley. Folks this truly was the end for him. He was gone within months. He truly did his best work in his last months. His heart failed him, but it never failed us! You don't see this kind of emotion often in a performer. I cried so the day they announced his death, most of the public not even knowing about his heart ailment.

  • Extraordinaria versión de uno de mis temas favóritos de siempre.

    Abrazos,Cely

  • As a session vocalist possessed of at least a modestly acute ear, I feel the need to chime in regarding this video. Short story, it was an education. Why? Well, I suppose I just realized what this gentleman had. From rock-n-roll pop to standards to this soulful performance - and all in one artist? Jeez, I wish he'd have had another decade or five! Could the Chairman have laid this down? Nope. Really special. Big ears. A monster voice. A world class talent. Among the greatest!

  • this u tube is the greatest thing on the planet.

I'm seeing things from Bobby that I had never

seen, and none of them lets me down!

  • Wow...what a beautiful performer..

  • Bobby should be recognized as one of the all time greats

  • Amen to that.....it is sad to know that Bobby`s illness haunted him all his life...and still he performed brilliantly every time....watch the DVD, " Mack Is Back " and you can see what I mean : ) For decades he was forgotten after his death and taken of the shelves...but thanks to his fans, MUAH included lol!...." The Mack is Back " on YouTube ect. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ***Darin Forever*** dh

  • @298625 Bobby has everything! Refining, harmony, feeling and a tender voice inimitable...

  • @298625 He is by people who realize it: thats the real award and the only thing guys like Darin cared about!

  • @BlankfrackCripledFUK Wrong, you should learn something about a person before you start making comments. Bobby Darin learned his style of performing from black intertainers long before he made his first song. Didn't you happen to notice his backup siners.

  • Darin was a comet....he had never reached his peak.

  • He plays the best emotional moment just after switching harmonicas 3:35 onwards... from human faliure to gods touch. Perfect

  • I'm surprised no one mentioned that he's playing the wrong harmonica at 3:15. He realizes and switches but I don't understand why he had the wrong one in his hand to start with. Unless he didn't really know it was in the key of C.

  • Bobby Darin Documentaries on DVD include:

    Beyond the Song from PBS;

    and

    Songmakers Collection series from Biography and A&E, Bobby Darin: I Want to Be a Legend;

  • Well Done...

  • WOW never get sick of watching this ...this is amazing footage...how good is this i dont think you will get better than this for a performance...Bobby Darrin...

  • Probably the greatest version of this song imo

  • Thank you bdfan62 for sharing!

  • Bobby always seemed to know how to do great versions of just about any song.

  • each song that you sing is a truly luxury!

  • Great version of a great song.

  • Oh yeah the best...

  • WOW this is so good...Bobby does this so well...
