Thank you so much for sharing Ozzygrrrl..............A blast from the dark distant past bringing back so many many many memories.......Good Morning Boys
This fabulous slapstick comedy was first aired in 1936 and ran until 1941. There were around 520 episodes, and the show was produced and directed by Rex Dawe, who also played Dr. Percy Pym, the school master. It has been re-broadcast countless times since first hitting the airwaves, such was its popularity.
I first heard this show in 1992 when I was 8 years old on what was radio 3UZ but is now Radio Sport National and they no longer play Yes What, they haven't done since the mid 90's. I thought this show was fantastic in the mid 90's, I'd listen every Sunday night and would get really angry if I missed a show. What a show, it was really amazing.
What a treat it was to hear this again after all these years. I remember as a school kid in the 50's, sitting around the dinner table with the family, laughing our heads off every evening.
Of course nothing could have been further from how things really were at that time. Public School teachers of the Menzies era were a sour, humorless, no-nonsense lot. Word had it that the Dept. of Education of the time wanted to have it banned as they believed it was a bad example for the kids.
wasn't it earlier than the 50's and 60's? cuz they had to break it up to go to war (WWII) and I'm fairly sure that Richard Harding-Browne was an RAAF fighter-pilot and was killed during the war. I was only small when my parents introduced me to Yes What and I was so upset when I realised that all the people in it had passed away years ago. Thanx so much for uploading this one tho - I've got all my dad's old tapes (and a couple of CD's) but this one isn't on them. You've made my evening :-D
@anatoashes It started in 1936 and went to air util the 60's however the fisrt episode went to air on 5AD in Adelaide not sure of the exact date though

I love this radio serial. I love the episode where Greenbottle ended the lesson by impersonating different animals such as emu laying an egg while turning a double back somersault resulting in Doctor Pym giving him the cane. It's sad it doesn't get played very often on Australian radio now because it's one of the best
this show is EPIC. i spent the entire 5th grade pissing myself laughing telling everyone that 7+8=19. Noone got it (being 2002, it wasnt entirely suprising)
Thank you SO MUCH. I love Dr. Pim and Bottemly and Greenbottle and Stanforth in all his obliviousness. I love it when they blew up the classroom and then they had lessons in the bike shed. ahhh the memories.
Just great, I listen to this show when I was a kids in the 60's & again during the late 70's early 80's. Any more or even the end of this one???? Cheers
