  • Great video thanks for posting

  • I love this place I have yet to shoot pictures there in winter though

  • This piece of video art is the most beautiful steam locomotive scene I've ever found on YouTube. It makes an ideal picture-card to send to friends at Christmas. "All I can say is that work has been well-done in every way." Five stars.

  • @ColonsayHouse

The most beautiful steam engine Canada ever produced, combined with the beauty of the mountains in my home province. This video hits straight to the heart for sure.

  • Now this is a train video that no one can reproduce!

  • I still think we need to see a Selkirk restored and running

  • Comment removed

  • oh hell yah the one in Calgary would be a nice restoration the Selkirk is one of my favorite Canadian steam engines aside from the CN U1 class 4-8-4s and the CN bullet nosed 4-8-2 engines

  • Best video on the web. I love this spot in Canada and you captured it in its best. My hat is off to you.

  • ya know, if steam engines had modern technologies applied to them ( such as enviromentally fuel and extra horsepower in the tender like a motor to help it start up and prevent wheelslip,) i think they would be almost as common as the diesels we see today. anyone agree?

  • Yeah I agree with you. Plus the CPR's steam locomotive's were so elegant looking.

  • Very nice!

  • I for one would surely love to see Steam locomotives,i envoy you folks on the mainland that can still hear, listen and smell a train pass by. It really make me sad to see a country chuck full of Railway history just throw it to one side, take it all for granted. all the best...and as they say: "hoods foward" Darrell / vo1mds

  • Without a doubt the best video on YouTube. Thanks very much, and Best Wishes...

  • Finally, if you knew 1/10 of what I do regarding the immense amt. of lies and deceipt that the private co. has spun, I guarantee you'd feel differently. When various mayors along this southern (CPR) route refuse to do anything about getting proper pass. service returned (Via Rail) thru here, you'd see the corruption and pay-offs! Meanwhile, people are dying on the Trans Canada Hwy.along this stretch!

  • I can assure you I do not work for the CPR or a Private tour company. You apparently feel quite strongly on this topic. I would love to see VIA return to this route. I would ride it if I could travel through Morants Curve and the like. Good Luck with the cause.

  • your really wrong, both moose jaw and regina saskatchewan's mayors are trying to get Via to return on the CP mainline I do hope your talking about the mayors in alberta because here in sask we want CP passenger service

  • @pigskyin I'd love to a return of "The Canadian", but our government is too corrupt to do that!

  • @pigskyin corruption and payoffs really. were lucky to have via rail in the first place, if it wasn't for the Canadian government stepping in and making Canadian National continue service or sell is passenger service there would not be via rail. Via rail uses CNR lines not CPR so there isn't a possibly for Via to run the rogers pass or CPR main line. As well how would a passenger service help with the Trans Canada, the death along this stretch are no different than anywhere else

  • I can only surmise that you are either a) an employee of the CPR, and are keen on towing the company line, or b) associated with the power-mad private tour train co. Rocky Mountaineer, or c)in some way, shape, or form associated politically with a certain party.

  • Ooh, you scare me so! Not uber rich huh? I venture to geuss that that group of railfans paid a pretty penny to ride this "chartered" train. And please tell me why that same group of so-called railfans is not championing the same cause....where we'd see the return of AFFORDABLE, ACCESSIBLE passenger train service on this route.

  • the above should have read "expensive private trains for the uber-rich" instead of freight trains!

  • The steam train in the video was a "Photographers Special". No one was riding it. It was paid for and chartered by a group of railfans who wanted to photograph it as it ran on the line. It was not the "uber-rich". Also watch the language in the comments, make your point without the language or stay away.

  • @pigskyin That's a problem with Rocky Mountain rail tours, I not saying there isn't a place for them, but there is a need for regular passenger train service too, maybe even mix trains of some kind.

  • Ok, freight trains are ok, but this should be a train the public can RIDE ! Via Rail Canada service should be re-instated immediately, and fuck the Rocky Mountaineer Vacations desired monopoly on this route! In a country like Canada, this is a joke that a private company (RMV)can dictate who runs what trains, and where! Bring back Via Rail to the CP route NOW !

  • Incredible really breathtaking scenery and locomotive!

  • Sweet.

  • Speechless, what an awesome, beautiful machine !!

YES, great vid clip too !!

  • nothing as nice as a steam locomotive in its natural habitat :-)

  • Beautiful scenery and sound
