  • Holy crap $700 for a video tape machine? You can buy them at a pawn shop for $20.

  • Larry Sanders?

  • OHH PORNO MEMORIES

  • Only $699.99!?!?!?!?!? Back then 1 weeks worth of groceries was like $20, and now 1 weeks worth of groceries is about $120!!! LOL. In today's inflation adjusted price, that machine is worth like $3500, lol.

  • Is there a second commercial where he bought his sons in law all ELCASET decks?

  • Beta was far, far, far, far, far superior to VHS. You get what you pay for as they say, and Beta was worth the money.

  • Makes you wonder how over priced the technology is we're buying now.

  • Junior??!!!!

  • $699.00 back then. Only $4.00 today :-) .

  • @BishopTJH $699.00 back then is worth about $3500 in today's money. A gallon of gasoline in 1982 was like 70 cents!!

  • I Love you Betamax Sony

  • now these cost like $5 or even get them free

  • Amazing to see just how far technology has come.

  • @8bobthebuilder Yes indeed - and the embarressing thing is that the player in the advert was actually the pocket version

  • WTF 600 DOLLARS...OH HEEEELLLLL TO THE NO

  • @TrudiAnn1106 These old Betamax and VCRs from the '70s and '80s were made of solid material and in Japan; they were quality machines build like tanks, not with cheap plastic made in China like the DVD and BD players we have today. I have an Oppo BD player made in China that cost me around $500.00, imagine if it was made in Japan. Quality comes with a price.

  • OMG !

$700 in 1982 that how much now ?

    $3000 ?

  • @Alexvideoclip

    1,621.00USD.

  • Damn... I just bought one of these working at a garage sale for $15 (with 3 boxes of tapes.) Works well but needs a little love loading the tape at times. Using to rip Beta tapes to the computer.

  • Wow! It EVEN HAS A REMOTE!!!!!

  • @microkorgboy not a wireless one, check the video !

  • @Alexvideoclip He said remote control....that's what it was....No one said anything about wireless.

  • wow, 700 bucks, what a steal!

  • 700 bucks lmao!

Can you believe that back then?

  • @micr0cosm in todays dollars that would be 2000.00 unreal but those sonys were made in actual japan not china and probably still working somewhere in either a salvation army or someones garage

  • @dadadruma Too true, I use them to digitize all these old tapes!

  • @Retrontario thats amazing i look at all my old vhs tapes they are all worn out looks horrible yours are great quality thanks for posting those

  • That REALLY looks like Dominic Chianese from The Sopranos.

  • true HD xD

  • Uncle Junior has a Betamax! And it's "only" $699.00!

  • A quick look-see sees that KML is still around.

Wonder if they have any of these in stock. ANyone heading to Amherst, Cheektowaga, or Buffalo anytime soon?

  • Those damn front-loading machines ended up destroying tapes after a while!

  • holy cow...we had that exact same betamax player when we lived in the philippines...i think my dad bought it in '89, if i remember right...and it didn't come with that wired remote control...

  • From $699 to worthless!

  • Like HD DVD!

  • I love the remote control with the cable!

  • Great isn't it? What we thought was high-tech in 1982 - amazing how things change!

  • things change so fast, i've given up on being "high-tech." Prices fall so fast, wait a year after new tech stuff appears, almost always it's half the price a year after it launches.

  • hahaha, ONLY $699... a Playstation 3 is only $299 and it plays Blu-Ray :)

  • Yeah, but can a PS3 play Betamax?! :P
