Kelly Hrudey and his game seven performance against the Caps in 1987 is a major reason I became a huge hockey fan. I love the Isles and I was real upset when they traded him to the Kings. It actually made me a Kings fan to an extent and they are my #2 NHL team. Number two to the Islanders of course.

I remember back in the day, early 90's, the Kings had Kelly Hrudey and Daniel Berthiaume, two goalies who both had long hair and wore those doo-rags under their helmets to keep the hair out of their eyes. I remember thinking how cool that was. Classic.

I loved watching The LOS ANGELES KINGS when I was a kid. Now days, the KINGS struggle to find that golie thats a "rock" like he was. I loved FELIX POTVIN when he played for the KINGS....But Hrudey will always be "The Man"

The quadruple overtime game against the Caps in the 87 playoffs was the greatest single game performance I ever saw by a goaltender. I remember staying up till almost 2 am till Pat LaFontaine finally ended it. I was totally spent just from watching. Hrudey stopped 73 of 75 shots that night. A truly amazing performance.

Kelly never was an All-Star. He never got a lot of credit because he never played with a legitimate defense in front of him. Granted Rob Blake is a heck of a player, but he's an offensive defenseman and Denis Potvin was in the final two years of his career when Kelly came up with the Islanders. His career GAPG is something like 3.65, but it's definitely misleading in the Gretzky-Lemieux era when offense dominated the game and the trap was just beginning to take shape.

When I was about ten I sent him a letter when he was still playing and a month letter I got a signed picture and a message back to me. Def much respect to that guy. And get to see him on Hockey Night In Canada every Saturday

Kelly sent me numerous signed postcards and hockey cards as a kid. His 1st pro team was here in Indianapolis. He won 2 Central Hockey League Championships for us in those 2 years as a member of the Indianapolis Checkers. The old CHL not that beer league they have now.

LoL he's a huge celeb up here in Canada. He hosts hockey night in Canada. I see him every Saturday night! He was a great goalie and I don't know if his save record for a single game will ever be broken. Great video
