@FlamesofVanity Japan has historic maps and obscure historic references too. The fact of the matter is historically it wasn't part of Korea or Japan but both sort of claimed it was theirs. That the Korean side seems stronger doesn't mean the Japan don't have a case however. For sources just go look to wikipedia, its page on the liancourt rocks dispute covers a fair bit.
So really, if some of you people are thinking the whole ICJ dispute strengthens Japan's claim, well logically, it doesn't and it never will, since it's wrong to make such assumptions without any basis behind it (SK stance on the ICJ issue does, as I explained below). If any of you doubt this, just google "dokdo part of the san francisco treaty?" and look at the 2nd, 4th and 5th link on the page.

btw, the island is Japanese not because it was owned historically by Japan. It's Japanese because "Based on international law, Republic of Korea& Democratic People's Republic of Korea are new countries founded in 1948 therefore their territory are the Korean penninsula+the islands without authorization at that time surrounding it. in 1948 Japan had not abondoned the island, Both Koreas cannot claim the island.
In France and some other European countries, it is also listed as 'Lian court' or Hornet by following the name of ships which had found the Dokdoh islands. That the Korean side seems stronger doesn't mean the Japan don't have a case however. For sources just go look to wikipedia, its page on the liancourt rocks dispute covers a fair bit.

The whole proposition to take this to the IC is just an excuse by the Jap government to inc. their chances of winning the whole dispute, since the influence of Japan is greater there. So the SK government is being smart about this and not falling for the trap. The Jap government really has no "objective evidence" and has been been blatantly defiant with their pesky lobbyists. Japan is relying on brute, political force, while SK is trying to settle this the hard, but reasonable way.

TSF never actually confirmed that "Takeshima" to be Jap, but the fact that "Dokdo is Korea" was excluded in the Treaty because the Political Advisor IN JAPAN, William Sebald, renounced his support that Dokdo is Kor territory. The Koreans have provided objective evidence (although nothing direct) that strengthened Korea's claim over the territory. Jap's claim is only based on the fact that there was no mention that Dokdo is Korean on the TSF.

btw, the island is Japanese not because it was owned historically by Japan. It's Japanese because "Based on international law, Republic of Korea& Democratic People's Republic of Korea are new countries founded in 1948 therefore their territory are the Korean penninsula+the islands without authorization at that time surrounding it. in 1948 Japan had not abondoned the island, Both Koreas cannot claim the island.

There are many "zainichi" Koreans as members of Uyoku dantai because Uyoku dantai have very strong relationship with other yakuza and many of yakuza are actually Koreans.(In Osaka, nearly 80% of yakuza are "zainichi" Koreans). But to claim that "Uyoku-dandantai[sic] is Korean" is overly simplified. Because regardless of the number of Koreans in Uyoku dantai, there are also Japanese members there as well.

Uyoku dantai is so extreme that they remind people of neo-nazism/Ku Klux Klan. And it's unbelieveable how their propaganda is full of hatred towards minority & non-Japanese groups living in Japan (ex. zainichis). If the Japanese government regrets their past, they should take serious acts about this & other international conflicts, to show their neighboring countries that they are truly sorry for what they have done in the past. The issuse pertaining to Dokko is an issue of complexity, not in the Korean perspective, but for the Japanese, because they want the valuable oceanic resources when Dokdo is obtained. The movie about dolphin slaughter "THE COVE" comes into mind, where not only the Japanese people but also for the rest of the world should focus on their own governmental and private malpractices. At the end of the day all people have same, there will always be "bad apples". Thank You Bear!
