  • Better look up Deep Six if you want the OGs of grunge, those are the 1st 6 to be classified as "grunge". Soundgarden, U-Men, Malfunkshun, Melvins, Green River and Skin Yard are the grandfathers of this genre.

  • This frikin sux. he was miming all the way!!!!

  • jane's addiction one of the most original and creative rock bands ever (from 87-91, leastways) there was a spark of genius in them

  • Not considered one of the original in grunge, you'd have to reference Deep Six which ARE considered the 1st grunge rockers.

  • just saw em at DTE in Detroit it was great WOOOOOO

  • great song

  • Angel of The Odd was better from what I remember at the Scream in Los Angeles.

  • They still rock out with their cocks out. But it seems that most bands were at their best when the drugs and conflicts were at their worst. Sobriety comes and then the creativity goes away..

  • yeah, conflict and drugs created good music.

  • wat the hell wer they saying to each other?

  • thought they would be good but i guess not i won 2 tickets to see them live on may 20th :( along with 9 inch nails

  • they may have only 1 hit that went mainstream but they had a huge following.

    unlike most 1 hit wonders

  • idiot.

  • Dude you are so wrong. Janes Addiction was the first influential alternative band on the LA music scene and they paved the way for every alternative and grunge band that followed.

  • @TheNebakanezer dude grunge music is a Seattle thing....and grunge pretty much started before the band got together

  • @ryanandreww-dude lets engage in some very light math, english, and music history! 1st-I said above that Janes Addiction was the first ALTERNATIVE band in LA(never claimed grunge was from LA). 2nd-Grunge IS A FORM OF Alternative rock. 3rd-Janes Addiction was formed in 1985. 4th-Grunge began in 1991(most give credit to Nirvana who is from Seattle-wow). 5th-do the math=grunge DID NOT "pretty much" start before Jane's Addiction. 6th-YOU weren't even born before any of this transpired. EPIC FAIL!

  • @TheNebakanezer dude are you serious? grunge beginning in 1991? If you really think that Cobain must be your master. Grunge starting before 85 with Green River or Mudhoney? Sounds about right to me. Me not being born before this time. Yeah, but that just means theres a 40 year old cumming in his pants banging on his keyboard in his mothers basement. Yeah I'm the loser :)

Play that guitar cowboy! You little know it all mister sir man!

  • @ryanandreww-lol-"you little know it all mister sir man"=that was great! Almost as queer as "EW" in the first post that didn't delete-lol(EPIC fail again). Who says EW-lol.

Mudhoney formed in 1988; same year as Pearl Jam and Sound Garden. Green River is considered by "MANY" as the originators as Grunge as your mentioned, but they had little influence outside of the local Seattle venue; "MOST"(word used in my first post, and being plural=not me...)-give credit to Nirvana.

  • @TheNebakanezer SoundGarden and MotherLove Bone formed out of Green River who were around in 84 and broke up in 88' forming both bands. MLB and SoundGarden, with AIC are the reason we have grunge, not JA. If Andrew Wood didnt die MLB would have broke into the mainstream and there would be no PF. Do some research before you start stating things that you have no information on

  • Comment removed

  • @TheNebakanezer how can you say, "give credit to Nirvana"? When Nirvana formed 3 years after Green River?

  • @BBEEAANN1 umm I don't believe Green River forming 3 years prior to Nirvana has anything to do with, or can limit, the respiratory or vocalization functions involved when I or anyone else, says something, or utilizes any other form of communication. Although I hate to admit that I wish it prohibited some from communicating.

  • @TheNebakanezer blah blah blah, your rhetoric has no bearing on the actual statements you made about JA being the foundation of alternative which, started with Green River, not JA. Im sorry that historical fact interferes with the statements that you have made concerning alternative music. Sonic Youth, the Pixies, the Melvins and Black Flag, and later Clash pre-date anything that JA had done that have influenced alternative far more than JA has.

  • @TheNebakanezer dude are you serious? grunge beginning in 1991? If you really think that Cobain must be your master. Grunge starting before 85 with Green River or Mudhoney? Sounds about right to me. Me not being born before this time. Yeah, but that just means theres a 40 year old banging on his keyboard in his mothers basement when he's corrected. Yeah I'm the loser :)

I saw your videos.I saw the basement. And I saw you. ew -__-

Play that guitar cowboy! You little know it all mister sir man!

  • @ryanandreww @ryanandreww -lol-I think you missed your nap today. btw-thats not a basement-its a bedroom and I don't own a keyboard-lol. As far as "ew""- I don't have time to watch "Queer eye for the Straight guy" re-runs, as I'm busy running two businesses-sorry.

Thanks for watching my videos sweety.

  • @TheNebakanezer obviously business isnt going to well. if you have time for youtube vids.

Soundgarden (84) started before pearl jam and Nirvana. Like I said Nirvana only made grunge mainstream. You just as old as Cornell you should really know they started before Nirvana and Pearl Jame

I might not be of age or full bloom as you say, but dude everyone knows Nirvana gets had nothing to do with STARTING grunge.

  • @ryanandreww Mediocre song writer, shitty singer, shitty guitar player. Kurt Cobain gets WAY too much credit for the whole grunge movement. Jerry Cantrell, Kim Thayil and Mike McCready deserve all of Kurt's credit.

  • @ComaAlpha tbh mate i agree with you there, i mean i love kurt but jerry cantrell and mike mcready were always streets ahead in talent and better at song writing

  • @ryanandreww FIRST this was about the LA music scene transformation NOT grunge little man. In regards to Cornell-you say Green River started Grunge but then mention Soundgarden who btw released its first album w/ Sub Pop in March 84, Green River's first was Dec. 84 which doesn't help your mindless debate; who started grunge had NOTHING to do with my first comment; regardless YOU NEVER said Nirvana made grunge mainstream; I said that. Business is great-I've made 2 videos in the last 6 months.

  • @ryanandreww Furthermore-seeing that my first comment(which you replied to) is the HIGHEST rated comment in this thread of 72(currently) posts; proves 2 things-1-it's supported 2-you took my words wrong or just like to twist things. Its hilarious that someone who's only responsibilities are to juggle a schedule of playing Biohazard, starting crap in threads, and plucking his eyebrows; would be foolish enough to speculate that my last video made 3 months ago proves my businesses are unsuccessful

  • @ryanandreww My apologies to the other users for the long posts and for even responding to this troll ryanandreww. NEVER argue with an idiot-they'll drag you down to their level and overwhelm you with their vast experience.

  • @TheNebakanezer dude grunge didnt start in 1991, infact those are its last few years, it started in the early 80's with mudhoney etc hell nirvanas first album came out in '89

  • @JoshBoyy1 I don't know what Eddie and Mike did before Temple of the Dog, but I do know what Stone and Jeff did and that was Mother Love Bone's only album, "Apple" Which is a phenomenal album. I want to say it came out in 84 or 85. I could be wrong. I heard Mudhoney's first album for the first time last week and loved it. I had a big misconception of the 80s. I thought it was all Poison and Cinderella and gay. Hell, even Trent started in the 80s.

  • @TheNebakanezer What about the Red Hot Chili Peppers. They are from LA too. And don't they have more hits than Jane's Addiction?

  • @TheNebakanezer What about Black Flag, Circle Jerks, X, The Germs, Adolescents, and Minutemen? All of those bands came before JA. JA were influenced by all of those bands. Even the "grunge" and alternative bands site early 80's hardcore punk as an influence. No. Jane's Addiction was not the first influential band in the LA music scene and they certainly did not pave the way for every alternative and grunge band. Look, I love JA, but your statement is so fucking wrong.

  • @spicyMcHAGGIS9green I applaud you for being the first to recognize "influential" in my post; I stopped replying to the trolls whom missed my point long ago. Synonyms of influential are: authoritative, forceful, weighty. No research need be done for the bands you listed for one reason; the total sum of influence created by all of the bands listed combined, is not comparable to the influence of JA. It's undisputed that my comment is the highest rated; the people have spoken-lol. Democracy rulz!

  • @TheNebakanezer Public opinion doesn't outweigh facts. Punk had THE BIGGEST influence on the late 80's-early 90's alternative scene. Punk had THE BIGGEST influence on Jane's addiction. Read "Our Band Could Be Your Life." Late 70's-early 80's American Punk rock had the most influence on all of those bands. Jane's Addiction, Nirvana, Sonic Youth, The Flaming Lips, Mudhoney, The Melvins, and Red Hot Chili Peppers were all influenced by punk.

  • @spicyMcHAGGIS9green One of Eric Avery's old basses had all punk rock stickers on it. Black Flag, MDC, The Dicks, The Dead Boys, Seven Seconds, Minor Threat, Bad Brains, DOA, Jerry's Kids, TSOL, and DRI. All of those bands had an influence on JA. The aggressiveness and speed of their music comes from punk. I guarantee you Dave Navarro, Perry Ferral, Eric Avery, and Stephen Perkins all went to punk gigs. Fuck, you must be fuckin' deaf.

  • @spicyMcHAGGIS9green DUDE Punk 1-has NOTHING to do with my statement nor was even mentioned 2-Punk was infuenced by an earlier form of music so where does that off topic, unrelated quandry end? Folk music? I spoke of the LA MUSIC SCENE, NOT PUNK! What is so hard to understand? You abandoned the bands originally listed and now name other bands in which 90% rocked the SEATTLE scene and 10% formed after JA. Those facts outweigh nothing. Btw challenging JA on a JA video=not smart.

  • @TheNebakanezer It's doesn't matter. Jane's Addiction listened to all of the LA Hardcore shit and took it in and were influenced by it. All of those early LA hardcore bands influenced JA and all of the grunge bands (save The Flaming Lips) I listed. You're fucking stupid. Sonic Youth formed BEFORE Jane's Addiction. Sonic Youth listened to the punk bands. JA listened to Sonic Youth and the LA punk. They were influenced by all of that. Read my other comment in regards to Eric Avery.

  • @TheNebakanezer just because people are sheep and dont research what you are stating doesnt mean you are right. If you actually researched what you were talking about you would know that JA was not that influential as a band when it came to anything Seattle. That is like people saying that the Sex Pistols are responsible for punk when they were sneaking into Ramones shows. The Ramones are the most influential band when it comes to punk and they hardly get the credit they deserve.

  • @BBEEAANN1 OK LISTEN I have no tolerance involving debate with people whom either purposely or out of hasty research and/or stupidity, totally ignore the topic at hand and create an argument based on crap unrelated to the original post. In short, as the post you reply to states VERY CLEARLY: I spoke of the LA MUSIC SCENE and the influence JA had in regards to THAT SCENE! NOT SEATTLE(arghh) or GRUNGE. You say "if I actually researched"; maybe you should learn rudimentary comprehension skills.

  • @TheNebakanezer You are the one who stated that people who voted for your comment are the justification for you being right when, your statements about alternative arent. The Chili's influenced more people than JA and they predate JA as well. You had stated that they were the foundation by which "alternative" music followed. This is hogwash. It would seem, my supposed rudimentary comprehension skills, are more attune than yours because you seem to ignore the actual historical data.

  • Fuck you bitch.

  • jane says have you seen my wig around?

  • this is a really good video ...

  • This rules!!!! So many memories come to mind when I hear this song. Excellent!!!
