  • i want to dance hehe can i have one

  • How is the avatar being driven in SL? I thought you could only play canned animations but here you seem to be feeding it directly into SL. How are you doing that exactly?

  • @sjatkins I had to use a modified version of the SL client.

  • i was just reading posts and omg come on sex motions really? geesh more than that it could be used for hand to hand combat, dancing together with someone, and so many more useful things than just sex motions ffs people stop being so ignorant all the time its getting old

  • please hurry up and get this on the market so we can buy it do you know what fun this would be to have on sl and how cool it would be for many many many reasons ?? OF course you do!! so hurry uup and get it on the market please i want this!! this will outdo every gaming system

  • I want the equipment so i can slap someone in SL lol

  • This is really cool! Could you connect it to something like an exercise machlne so you could walk around too, instead of just waving your arms around on the spot?

  • @Laxpowertoo sure thing, it's possible.

  • Great video keep up the good work.

  • Have you created a paper about this? I would be interested in reading it.

  • Hi man, congratulations for your research, you said very expensive, and I take this opportunity to ask you, how expensive it costs all clothing, and would also like to know if I need any program beyond the second life for the equipment works. ..

    thanks

  • Really interesting, for sure is the future. Not sure how compatible this will be with traditional SL animations uploaded to SL. Could this work in priority levels?

  • @vistabarnes It could, why not.

  • that's amazing!

hurray for more realistic sex motions in secondlife!

    Just what we all need.

  • This has the potential to enable entry into virtual worlds and the 3D web for so many more people. Great work ... most encouraging! Keep it up ;)

  • Sorry guys... I deleted 1 comment by accident. The question was about whether I have a timeline for releasing this thing to the public.

I will try to do my best in terms of finalising the code, but I can't promise that it will be cheap enough for the ordinary public to use. My software should be available within the next 6-12 months, but I don't know how long will it take for this hardware to become cheap or for cheap camera-based motion tracking solutions to become usable for this purpose.

  • @ozzeuk Hi again Ozzeuk! I don't want to be a pest, but roughly how much are we looking at for the hardware? Cheers, Scott

  • @scottgrantoz I don't want to disclose the details of our deal, but the price is in tens of thousands of Euros at the moment. Our plan is to start with the best equipment there is to test the limits of this approach and then try to make it work with cheaper options. There are camera based mocap systems that only require 2 webcams. But I haven't tested those yet.

  • @ozzeuk hi! thank you for that. I just wanted a rough figure. Clearly things have got a long way to go before the average punter can afford this kind of technology. I am sure that those of us who are genuinely interested will wait patiently. Hope all your negotiations go well. Cheers, Scott

  • I can't wait to try it!

Although it will mean I will suddenly be a crap dancer in SL ;)

  • Is the motion capture visible by standard Second Life clients?

  • @JChapmanMU: No, I had to modify the client.

  • @ozzeuk Have you considered making this code available for use in other client Viewers?

I imagine this would increase lag issues once it reached common use.

  • @PimPeccable It's a research prototype right now, not a commercial product, so any viewer that is opensource can be used.

In regards to the lag. Yes, it sure will add more network traffic, but there are always compromises one has to make. The size of the data being currently transmitted is around 20 KB/sec for each avatar and there is a potential to reduce it.

  • @ozzeuk

  • This is stunning. Great work.

  • @PhilipLindenLive I meant the *real* Philip Rosedale. Not some imposter like you. ;)

  • Absolutely amazing. Philip Rosedale needs to see this.

  • Thanks for this presentation video, awesome!

  • Sublime.

Just mind blowing how realtime you have accomplished this feat.

    I congratulate you sir.

The accuracy, performance and reliability of that motion capture suit with your software package is just technically incredible.

Could you explain a bit more about what you exactly used? Is your software package available for free or opensource? (I'm a third party viewer developer myself)

  • Hi @NexiiM, thanks for your comments. The technology is still in development and I'm not yet ready to release the software and discuss how things were done. But you will get your answers soon enough :)
