  • The pH of bentonite clay is 8.3 so it's kind of like giving yourself a perm (not nearly as strong though). That's why it really is best to use apple cider vinegar because it's pH is 3. When the two mix a fizzing noise will occur. Neutralization is taking place when that happens and the pH is being brought down into the safe range for our hair (4-7). 4 or 4.5 is best so that cuticles are smoothed down to lock in moisture without damaging the strand.

  • @411blah411 Thank you for writing this! I was about to use bentonite clay on my hair, but (luckily) decided to conduct research on the ph lvl! do you know what will happen to the hair in the long run? thanks! -s

  • @sabmeister001 As long as you mix the clay w/ something acidic enough (like acv) the hair should be fine in the long run. I use bentonite clay w/ acv instead of normal shampoo. I add a few drops of peppermint oil just to tone down the smell of the acv. It cleans the hair and scalp without stiping natural oils. Its also a more natural way of getting rid of hard water build up. Sulfates and phyletic acid also do this same thing. Sulfates are unhealthy and they aren't natural. Phyletic acid...

  • @411blah411 (CONTINUED) Phyletic acid is much more natural and safe than sulfates but it doesn't remove hard water build up as well because it's already a full compound (as in its already been through a reaction so it won't react with the hard water minerals as readily). I'm sure theres a better way to explain that last part but I hope it's understandable x-| If you need me to explain better let me kno! Anyways, that's why bentonite was the winner for me. It's safe if you use it properly.

  • You probably put too much clay in the mixture or had is set in your hair too long. I tried it for the first time last night. I got the same results as you without the stripping even after the leave in conditioner.

  • I tried the bentonite clay on my hair today and it left a residue in my hair, so I just skimmed over it with shampoo. It does clean the hair well and define the curls.

  • how do yuh take out the frizz my hair is just like yours bt mine scrunches up ...how do you do it ????

  • It was probably dry the next day because you're supposed to condition or deep condition it afterwards.

  • i live in london and im not sure where to get bentonite clay.any advice as to what kind of sotres carry them? :-)

  • @mimi42428 you can purchase it on amazon.com.

  • @nyishaj123 thanks for the info.i was wondering if there were any stores I could go into and buy it but havent been able to locare one

  • No problem in talking. You are talking about the product, about the pre and post of your hair. You are not talking a lot of extraneous nonsense which has nothing to do with the current video-that is what makes me click off some videos before they get to the point. Keep talking we are listening. Thanks.

  • You were right the first time...It's super super super super DIVINE! :)

  • Great video!! You should seal the moisture with something thick, maybe castor oil?

  • I am familiar with bentonite clay but have never thought of using it for my hair and scalp, though I am aware it is a good detoxifying agent. It did wonders on your hair, and your hair turned out gorgeous. What about a hot oil treatment to follow after the clay, perhaps the extra virgin olive oil itself. Let us know what works for you. Thx!

  • That was a great video, it's a shame that some of the writing you'd put up was covered by some static writing at the top of the screen. I'd like to have read it all.

  • Have you ever heard of adding yogurt to this concoction? Think it would make any difference?

  • Bentonite is an absorbent clay consisting mostly of montmorillonite and has an incredible ability to absorb excess oil, so to put olive oil in it would defeat the point. We a learn though, i done it for the first time today on dry hair and my hairline almost came right out the root!!

    Thanks for the vid!!

  • your hair is to die for!

  • u can just use the sand that is sold for cat litter . thats usually 100% bentonite too

  • Do you use it AFTER you wash your hair and if so, do you need to oil/moisturise is after you put the clay in??

  • You have flawless skin!

  • How does adding bentonite on your hair make it less dry and brittle? I work at a company that makes shale based tile and I work with this stuff all the time. Its very drying on your skin and hair. No idea why you would think it would 'help' dry hair. It dries mine out so much I have to use conditioner every day.

  • I love your hair it looks so good . so you said you use olive oil to and leave in conditioner too.

  • Is your hair naturally curly My hair is natural and straight and i want it curly like yours what do i do to make my hair curly like yours.

  • Your hair is absolutely gorgeous!!!! Did you do a big chop at all or were you always natural? If you did do a big chop, how long did it take to grow your hair to the length that it is? It's beautiful.

  • ah thats so funny it looks like ur getting a perm...LoL..i'll have to try this stuff.

  • great video - Im transitioning to natural hair and I am looking at everyones suggestions - I am subscribing!

  • i think its beautiful!

  • Oh, how did you get the curls so defined and beautiful in the pic @ 4:00?

  • I tried this clay for the first time today, and I really like how soft and define my curls are.

  • I use it for my skin and trust me its the best thing for deep cleaning your skin only use once a week if your over 30 make sure you extra mositurize..just try it you can get it from the groceries store or walmart in the black hair section..

  • You really don't look like you have acne prone skin! I bought a few diff clays and i like the way they feel on my face but never thought about using them on my hair. Now i am curious! Is it drying to the hair because my hair is already kinda dry?

  • If your hair doesn't have product buil-up, you don't need to use it. Basically it's just a natural clarifier. Use it when you just can't get your hair clean with regular shampoo.

  • Did you say this clay has metals in it?

  • Because it's from the earth, it's going to have some trace metals which are:

    Silica

    Aluminum

    Iron

    Sodium

    Magnesium

    Calcium

    Titanium

    Potassium

  • Thanks

  • Wow, you have some serious length. How long have you been natural and what is your hair type?

  • 6 years. And 4A coily and fine.

  • pt3My mixture wasn't as thick as your mixture but creamy, does the thickness give better performance ?

  • I'm not sure. I have to keep experimenting. I've only use water so far. I like to keep things simple. LOL. But my hair was super soft after the clay was rinsed out. I didn't have any issues at all.

  • pt2 I'll use more clay next time.I must apply it to my damp hair next time also lol because my hair came out curly poofy instead of defined but my hair still end up soft.

  • Hi ,I put too much marshmallow root in my clay and it made it difficult to wash it out my hair.

  • I also use Bentonite and it is great. I love the texture of your hair.

  • your end result is good. you hair looks great like that and healthy

  • I am staying tuned, sweetie! lol

Your hair looked really good and those curls were banging!

  • Thanks!

  • Have you ever used shea butter in your hair?

  • Yes. I'm not a huge fan. I like shea butter when i wear twists, that's about it. My hair seems to like oils more.

  • Messy! But your hair looks great!

  • LOL thanks.

  • Hey, hey! I am currently having the exact same problem. My hair is RIDICULOUSLY dry and I have changed my moisture regimen like twice. I don't know if its because its winter time and cold but I am going to try the bentonite in a week and see what happens. Hav you figured out something else to add in your regimen?

  • Your curls are super pretty!! I hope you find something you like soon.

  • i'm still waiting for my marshmallow root powder and bentonite clay to come by mail.I can't wait to use this mixture=)

  • Please let me know how it turns out!

  • I will=)

  • yup, curls are really define. it looks like it did a good job. thanks for the vid.

  • Thank you for watching

  • Love the hair.Wow this stuff really works.

  • wow your camera's really clear usually when i see products on other vids they're blurry

  • It better be, it cost enough. LOL

  • Thanks' for the video. Have you ever tried Miss Jessies Baby Buttercream? It moisturizes like a creme and provides a light hold like a gel. It leaves the hair feeling a little "sticky" but overall I think it's a great product for natural hair.

  • I haven't tried any Miss Jessie's products. I always felt that they were overpriced. I know that they are having their Buy one Get one Free sale right now though. If I wore my hair unstretched, I would probably be more willing to try them.

  • Nah. I always thought they were overpriced. My bestfriend loves it though. If I wore my hair out most of the time, I wouldn't mind trying it. But since I'm in buns or in braid outs most of the time, it would be a waste.

  • i didn't know it was your first time using it. Thank you for the video. I have one right now...

  • Now thats it's been a couple of days, how would you say your hair behaved?

  • My hair was fine after, still a little dry. BUT now I realize it was my deep conditioner that was drying my hair out. For some reason my hair only likes fatty conditioners. KeraCare was really bad for my hair.

  • I've been waiting on a video from you!! Thank you as always, your hair is absolutely GORGEOUS!

  • Thank you sweetie!

  • looks great. I'm going to try some when I am ready to was again.

  • i was wondering what happened to ya!

  • how often do you use it???

as soon as saw this video i went out and got this, lol.

  • as i saw***

  • This is my first time. I would say no more than once a month for me since I keep my hair pretty clean.

  • How has the clay worked for your acne? I've seen it in the stores.. but i would have not thought it was for hair. I will try this with a deep condition afterwards for damaged dry hair.

  • As far as my acne, I think it works just as well as Benzoyl Peroxide (I normally use that) but it didn't dry out my skin as much.

  • I purchased Bentonite Clay today after seeing your video, I bought it from Vitamin Shoppe. I can't wait to see my results!

  • How did the bentonite clay go?

  • I used the bentonite clay once so far and I am still unsure about its benefits on hair, but I do like it on my skin....

  • can a hispanic with curly hair use this? my hair's been dry lately

  • YES! If your hair is holding toxins, oil and dirt, you can surely do it. It shouldn't feel dry, just clean. Good luck.

  • your hair looks pretty!!!!! I am very happy to see you back:)

  • Thank you!!! Yeh, I'm back. :) YAY.

  • your hair is very pretty

  • Thanks so much.

  • thanks for sharing
