I wouldn't necessarily call that a "failure". You survived the landing and so did most of the helicopter. Real pilots always say, "Any landing you can walk away from is a successful landing." :)
It´s a deep simulation, not a game (unless using the game mode settings inside it). But in about a week you get the feel of all commands, if you already have good experience with Flight Simulators. If not, if it´s your first flight simulation experience, you really will have to expend a month or more to learn this thing...
Ok, a simple observation from a real world pilot is- 1, never nose down as much as you did in the early stages of auto - you lose RRPM (thy staff of life). 2, although you should never do this when practicing autos in real life, in an actual emergency, allow your RRPM to be quite high when b4 u flare to give yourself more energy to slow down. 3- I didnt see much of a flare in this video. Your groundspeed was way too high on contact, you sort of just coasted to the ground.
part of the reason why its easier is the coaxial rotor. that and wheeled landing gear instead of skids. if it was a single rotor with a tail rotor, you might have had more fun fighting the drift and probably wont have as much time to adjust for the approach. gotta love tandem and coaxial design.
good job! this looks a lot like a ka-27 who is trying to perform a water landing after being missiles in the engine/tail. Put an armored speedboat in a group of 30 ka-27 and see what happens...
Too early flare using up all the inertia in the rotor causing you to drop very quickly in the end.. start the flare closer to the ground and flare harder.. Meet with collective after levelling out from the flare. That's the way to do it! Lovely sim though! Much better in autorotation than FSX.
I was wondering, I've seen in most landing videos that the pilot eases the Ka-50 into a rolling landing as opposed to a vertical landing like you'd see with a Huey or Cobra, why is that?
@Warhawk556 Probably a lot easier with wheeled landing gear, safer too. I'd rather have forward momentum parallel to the ground than to rely on auto-rotation straight into the ground.
Never flew a tandem rotor but on a single shaft you pulled pitch about a second and a half too soon to flare, you would have lost tail authority big time. Any landing you can walk away from... Not bashing gamers, hope it leads you to being real pilots. CFI
im looking for the sound mod for the rotors any suggestions? also i am having trouble getting the same site hawk system to work. i have been trying to impement it on some online play and its not working.
common mistake is to flare too high. 2 steps, 1st, hit that point 'where u play the game' of holding it off the runway. Should be from a height thats safe to fall from. When ur set there, then you can allow it to land...Just what i was taught.
@Nightclawler took me 4 times watching the tutorial and jotting down the "trainee" guy instructions, I even used my cell phone to snap the keys in order from the video... nice thing but nasty at first.
You can play the game in two modes: "Game", where anyone can fly the helicopter within 30 mins of training. And "simulation" where you need the 500+ pages manual to fully understand all of the different options.
@dataguttene well there is a 2 button auto start but i think its easier to manage than say falcon 4.0 or even lockon with full real avionics ect. the hardest part is just locking on to targets while tryijng to fly defensivly. I f your a sim fan try it
@masterberkay66 dude...tsk tsk tsk.....FSX is 1000x easier then this.In FSX you dont have to control every system.Believe me,I have both and DXC is a 1000x harder
@masterberkay66 Helicopters are easier to fly, but harder to learn to fly. Airplanes don't drift like a helo, so you must get used to thinking/reacting ahead of time. You must anticipate. Using visual references you must calculate approach speed, and descent speed mentally. No numbers involved, your brain will instantly and instinctively calculate where you will be in 2secs, 3 secs. Spend 100 hours landing to exercise your brain, or you will end up over compensating when landing/maneuvering.
@dataguttene It´s a deep simulation, not a game (unless using the game mode settings inside it). But in about a week you get the feel of all commands, if you already have good experience with Flight Simulators. That was quite nice. One thing to note, you flared about 10 feet to high. So the blades ran out of RPM while you were still airborn. If you had waited on the flare that would have been perfect
I thought this was a fail. I saw a chunk fly off, but the pilot and the vast majority of the money spent in the helicopter is saved. Successful landing to me.
I liked the approach a lot, how you were coming in at that angle, sort of like a plane landing but shorter.
But yeah hard landing, still the aircraft is in one pice just some damage to the right wing and landing land other than that it could fly again i bet.
you don't have to shut off the engines. you can also just reduce throttle to idle. Same effect right? Is it necessary to adjust with the propeller pitch with the collective when auto rotating?
No but he was shutting of the enigne himself. And if you are training an auto rotate procedure you shouldn't destroy half your heli because repairing it is very costly. Watch for example the vid from BPA6013 to your right. Does he brake one of his rotors ?
@paradym123 yeah whats a little rotor damage, if you walk away, it can be repaired. there should be some spares in the maintenance hangar. he came in decent, but just not level enough. instruments baby, instruments! lol
not bad... and the pilot survived yay xD

Можно и плавнее посадку на авторотации сделать, без подлома стойки шасси и без поломки конца лопасти как было видно здесь.

A good landing is one you can walk away from, a great one is when you can re-use the aircraft.
But yeah, tis just a bit bent, she'll be right.

AUTO ROTATION : you switch off rotors and you go down, this maintain the rotating rotors. If you are good you can land "safely".
