I have the invidia n1 single and fujita f5 CAI for my AP1. I'm REALLY leanin on getting the 4.77 final gear. How much did it cost you over all, parts and install?
Did you get the gear from Kia or another like J's or Ricks? And did you get a yellow box too?
@PeterPancakes Yes I got the yellow box. That was only 100. I bought the diff off someone from a local S2k forum for like 700 I believe and did the swap myself.
Yes the 4.44s are good gears, But the 4.77s are the best in my opinion. My 1/4 mile from stock went from 14.4 to 13.7 with just the gear swap. The 4.44s would be around 13.8 but be better from a roll because you will have to shift less for the same speed
I didnt do a gear swap. I did a whole Diff swap, which was tricky but not that bad. Just a matter of unbolting then bolting back. If you are taking your stock rear apart I would recommend a shop doing it for you.
@ktmx21x Yeah, I believe in 6th gear at 70mph I was at 5,000 rpms. Stock gears I believe your at 4200-4600. Its not that much of a difference on the highway, and they are WELL worth it as far as driving. Really wakes up the car.
I got around 25 mpg. With the stock 4.10s it was around 26. Not much MPG loss because with stock gears you have to push further on the pedal (due to the lack of tq with lower gears) which is made up for with higher gears, you barely pushed down, if that makes sense.
@FastisFast Yeah I gotcha. That was the one bad thing I heard about doing that from some people, but I don't think I talked to anyone that actually had them. I appreciate it.
I just picked up a set of 4.77's for $200 and am getting a used diff to put them in so I can swap diffs at the track and see which one I like better. Can't wait.
nice man...i own an S..and i am thinking for a while now to install 4.56 gears..i want to leave the rest of the car stock so i figured its a good deal..just an AEM V2 installed..exhaust is stock cause i dont like the excess noise..any suggestions for something more to add to the car?
Just gears and exhaust is done to the s2000. Gears make beasts out of these cars. I could pull about 6-7cars on a stock S with the gears. I went back to stock because I went back to school and needed the money. Im about to sell it anways, im majoring in engineering so I will be making about 6x the money I was before. Ill have a boosted S in the future, probably along with a boosted C6z :D
Id never change the gears on the S2000---compromise the top speed is not in my cards. I've had my S up to 148mph... and pushing... fk losing my top end by changing gears.
to each there own. Gears are very useful for dig races or small tracks, I have never gotten my s2000 up to 140 so 4.77s worked fine for me. The accel is a better payoff then 15mph. My 1/4 mile went from 14.2 to 13.7. A stock S2000 can barely do 150 with the drag anyways. Its takes FI to really get the full potential out of stock gears. Im back to stock now anyways

ap1 get 4.77
ap2 get 4.57
imo the best gears for each model

hello.
i destroyed my diff some days ago.
propably its the pinion not the lsd.
im thinking of installing a 4.44 or 4.77..
in comparison to a stock s2000 what is the result of a drag race with your gears?
have you ever raced?
i mean a standing start race.
Thank you

Yes, it lowered it to around 143.

How complicated was the install? I have a 2001 ap1 and am looking to switch to the 4.77 gearing trying to find a local s2ki guy to help me out.

What kind of mpg have you been getting with this? I been really interested in doing this or the 4.57, but heard it kills the gas mileage.

It is the best mod you can do for an N/A S2000. I went from a 14.3 to a 13.7 just with the gears. Pretty crazy really.

@FastisFast One more question. . Do you hear much whining from it when your just driving around regularly?

gears is probably the best thing you can do to the car, you cant make it much faster without FI or a serious engine build
FastisFast 2 years ago
hey..what else is there at ur s2k at the time of this video? specify please..and why are u back to stock gears now? did y installed an FI kit?

It has the yellowbox installed.
Stock gearing the 2nd gear would run to 65mph. There you can see I shift well before that (52mph)
FastisFast 2 years ago
I clocked 11-60 ~4.5 sec. you should do a 0-60 run.

whats the top speed limited too with the gears?
jaisonda 2 years ago
I believe 144ish.
FastisFast 2 years ago
Its worth it. Who goes that fast anyway.
jaisonda 2 years ago
exactly, 144 is plenty fast. I have hit 130 as my fastest, no need to go any faster.
