The Brazilian videogame market has been a hostile market for most companies the last 25 years. In fact, Piracy was and still is a rampant problem. Now that the economy is picking up down there in comparison to other companies they are releasing legit products, but as you can see people would rather get cheapo consoles rather then the big expensive ones. Still, a step forward when you considered that most videogame owners in the country still play 8-16bit games.

@vguyver2 I'm sorry but this is not true. Owners of Xbox360 / PS3 consoles are almost the majority of active players in Brazil (PS2 still is the most popular console today). And we pay 3 times more for these consoles than people from developed countries due to abusive taxes. Zeebo was a failed project and even here was considered a laughable attempt to make a Brazilian console.

@mcbgames is that the case now? Growing up it was always 8bit and occasionally a 16 bit console. This was the case up until I last visited in 2004. I didn't realize it expanded. I still recall alot of people playing it those knock off consoles even recently and even in Portugal.

@vguyver2 There are still old consoles on sale here but they're usually bought by uninformed parents. PS1 - 2 are very easy to modify so they used to be kings here in the late 1990s and 2000s. 8-bit systems still sell well but the majority of players have access to the same consoles that everyone does in the rest of the world. The difference is: We rarely play original games. Some PS3 games are sold here by 150+ USD (while 25% of Brazilian population have a monthly income of 365 USD).

@mcbgames Ahh, thank you. So it's true, Brazil has indeed started to change it's gaming market. It's still pretty expensive (actually comparable to me on my minimum wage salary a year ago). I do recall going around the neighborhood and only seeing one 32 bit console while I was back there. This years ago of course, I just didn't realize so much changed in less then a decade. Brazil has always had a piracy problem for console makers, at least when I was growing up.Sorry for thinking it unchanged

This looks terrible. o_o But you know, I looked it up on wikipedia, and the console is an "educational system" it has no disk tray, everything is downloaded off the internet, and made to bring education to people who normally couldn't afford it. So its not a serious recreational platform.
