The fact of the matter is that the Japanese are exploiting a loophole in the international agreement which allows research. Precisely how many whales do they need to take in order to do their supposed research... certainly not as many as they are taking.
Regarding the Addy Gill, it's obvious if you look at the video of it being struck that the Japanese vessel *turned into* the Addy Gill's midsection on purpose. It doesn't make sense for them to have sunk it on purpose since the Addy Gill was an asset to their efforts. It was quicker and more maneuverable than any other ship in the Japanese fleet. It was certainly worth more to them working than destroyed. It was also a labor of love for the man who built it.
and regarding the comment about "you'd better not board their ships"... I'm sure the Japanese could board Sea Shepherd's ships if they wanted to, but the Sea Shepherd defenses are better than the Japanese defenses against boarding. ;) Perhaps the Japanese should prepare themselves better.

The Ady Gil was sitting dead in the water when the ramming happened. There's no debate as to "who rammed who". I get that you're against Sea Sheperd, but politics aside, that Japanese captain should've been put on trial. There's enough video evidence to erase any doubt as to who was at fault.
Also, that was a classic way for him to confront the guy that sunk his ship. And even funnier that the ship boarded without their knowledge was the Japanese fleet's security vessel. Nice security there.

I've seen videos of British tankers dropping cargo on Green Peace boats that were buzzing along beside them throwing things. Those tanker captains were willing to throw thousands, maybe 10's of thousands of dollars worth of cargo into the sea just to sink one little boat. Even if the containers were empty, they're worth about $7,000 a piece. The Japanese are cool as a cucumber.
