Hmmm, mstaniz, Co-exist? The thing is, 99.999% of Christians and 99.999% of Jews would have NO problem co-existing with Muslims and each other, however, the Muslims are the ones who are aggressive, and Islam teaches intolerance, and to kill Jews and Christians. 25% of muslims worldwide support Bin Laden and moderate muslims do not condemn terrorism. Bono is wrong, Arabs are descended from Joktan, Muhammed lied, they are not from Ishmael.
For the sake of clarity...I believe the chant was "Jesus...Jew...Mohammed...it's true", and it wasn't something the crowd chanted along with. Bono's statements never seemed to suggest explicit universalism, but the need for coexistence. True believers need not kill (or hate) those who are "other" (which is what is happening in the world).
As a Christian I'm sure I do disagree with some of Bono's beliefs of his mixture of equal rights and "faith"...however I do know their songs are blatantly Gospel centered. From their first album "Boy" to their recent "Atomic Bomb". And as far as "chanting" in concerts...why not look at what he was chanting on the Elevation tour in 2001...how about Psalm 116?
Their mistaken on Bono's statement of "Islam, Jewish, Christian" being "all true". He did not state in the concerts that they were "all true"...he simply was pointing to the significance of Abraham in all three stories.
I can respect someone's distaste with the concept of allowing "worship" to be looked upon in the same way a school or office is when they have "Hawaiian T-Shirt Day"...or "U2 Day". Thats fine...
But good grief, these guys need to do a LITTLE better research before they start throwing out the judgment on U2. I mean the older gentleman even admits he barley has "heard" of the band, let alone has listened carefully to their music.
