Hi "1bigJake6" Could you show me where you can buy the D300 with 600$. I just search some cheapest one but they are around $750 to $1000. I dont know how you can get with $600. could you show me some ways to approach it. Many thanks
Hey could someone help me out. I got my my first DSLR this year and it is canon do you think for my next camera I should switch over to nikon up to the d300 or just stay with cannon and just sell I'n a year or two
how do i turn off my red eye through my camera? i got a new sb 600 and since the red eye is showing up in the flash i need to turn it off. Please help me!
Really great review...love all the technical stuff you're going through and the comparing between D80 and other cameras are most helpful, to understand the improvements ! Really well done, mate !
i have a d60 and to set a timer on that, go to the menu and then the custom settings menu. select self timer and choose how long you want the delay then on the side of the camera underneath the flash button there is a button that says Fn press that and a little Fn icon will appear in the right side about halfway up. then just press the shutter release
what is the battery life of the d300 compare to the d200? ive read the d200 eat the battery away very quick. im think of getting a d200 with a 17-55mm f2.8 lens or a d300 with a 18-70 lens which i have already got
the d200 has a CCD sensor and the new d300 has a CMOS sensor which is a huge upgrade and the ccd eats up the battery super fast and the cmos makes the battery last much longer and the features are massively greater on the d300 than the d200 sooo i choose the d300
i have my new nikon d300 for 2 days and i already start to see dust particles inside the lcd screen and the green info screen on top of the camera. is this normal?
hey dude, i got a quick question, i just got d300s, somehow the shutter-release button is so sensitive, my d80, has a click sound to it when i shoot, is this normal for d300 ? i assume it's made for those wearing gloves.. but im worry i got a bad copy of camera
maybe its not sensitive, but compare to d80 the shutter release feels different when i press it in my d300s, how bout ur d300 compare with ur d80? (there's a click feel on d80 when i press, the d300s does not have that feel)
the d300 is obviously better. no disrespect or canon hating, honestly i love all cameras, i was gonna get a 40d but the d300 outspecs, outhandles, n outperforms it, the 40d is great, the d300 is a big step above thats all.
I just bought a 300d I have not taken any pics. yet , couse I just bought the body ... when time comes(and save enough for a 2.8 lens.) and take any pics. I'll let u know what I think of the d300 but for now I'm still in love with my canon 40d
smart move, i hate when people get a good camera and buy a shit lens, theres no way i'll be getting anything thats not f2.8 or 1.4 to start with. i love primes(30mm or 50) but i wouldnt mind a 24-70 or18-50 2.8 either
ppl make good pictures with the help of a good camera. i own a d80 and am thinking of up grading to a d300 but dont think my skills will justify the d300
Thanks professor!!! you're reviews are so well spoken. You should invest in a good mic like a Rode or something. There's an annoying hmmm in the background.
I just got a D300 it has no Auto-ISO setting? But I see it has Auto-WB. The shuter also acts very very very slow. I hit the triger on the D300 and it has a 2sec delay.
Are you sure that the mirror up, timer, or another setting isn't on? You can have it not take the image right away to stop shake from the shutter slapping open. I think one of these settings is on.
I've accidentally turned on the self-timer on my D200 when climbing around w/ the camera on a shoulder strap. Very confusing 'till u realize what happened.
The D300 has Auto-ISO. It works more like ISO priority and is extremely useful if you are shooting in conditions where the lighting changes rapidly and you want the lowest ISO for a particular shutter speed. Also, U R less likely to forget to turn the ISO back down when u get back out in sunlight
Hi, my name is Chris. Congratulations on your video.I just bought a D300 and was wondering what kind of lenses would you recommend for close up eye photography (I´m an Iridologist).

Do you think expensive, large cameras are like phallic or compensate inadequate sexual personal feelings? I'm not talking about you personally of course but you do see a predominance of middle aged men walking around with these big pointy things sticking out.I'm not trying to be rude its just quite a noticible observation.
Why are you comparing it to the D80 it's not an upgrade to the D80.. it's an upgrade to the D300. Also you really need to speak up as I had to up the volume. Your review is about the D300 why are you talking about every other camera and comparing it to the D300..your title say D300 review..
There were and are still alot of people who are thinking about upgrading from the d80 to the d300. I compared the d80 and the d300 to help them decide whether they should keep their d80 or get the d300.
I think the Noise from the D300 is outstanding! I love this camera! ISO 6400 is pretty grainy but..... If you know how to expose 6400.. the image is still very impressive.
LOl, yeah I know what you mean, I would arm myself with a Canon EOS 1DS MK III. No wait, that's actually nothing compared to the Hasselblad CF-39MS Digital Back @ 39 megapixels. Costs $38,000!! WOW! Now that's a lot.
Yes true, but if you see the review Ken Rockwell has done on the D300 vs D200, you will see the photo comparisons at night time starting @ 100 ISO all the way to 3200 ISO. The difference can be seen immediately after 800 ISO. The D300 only has the same noise @ 3200 ISO as the D200 running @ 800 ISO. Amazing. Plus to make matters worse, they went and put on a bloody D700. Now I am confused. I really like to get the best. Money isn't really an issue, however, I do not like to waste money.
you have great reviews dude.. but i'm just wondering. how do you get all this equipment? what the hell kind of job do you have? point me in the right direction.
it reminds me of the time when some idiot i went to school with said he was getting "solid gold alloy wheels" for his lexus (which, btw he never actually owned).
Hahaha. And beside the fact that gold is a material much to weak to carry the weight of a car. Anyway, I have a Sony Alpha 100 now. I think I am better off with a Nikon D80... It is really amazing why one always finds things like that out AFTER you bought the wrong camera/thing in general. It's so unfair!
Well evidently you can buy the adapter ring for canon to fit on Nikon. I havent seen it but B&H apparently does. Canon lenses are solid, however, so are Nikon prime lenses such as the 70-200mm, f/2.8 lens. It's practically the work horse lens of every professional. There is probably no lens out there as sharp as this lens. No wonder it is always out of stock @ B&H photo. I have been trying to buy another one for the longest time now. $1,600
True, I agree with you. However, after many failed attempts, I now always read reviews before buying anything. Even for other electronic items. I have a theory, always invest in the best one in the market you can afford at the time, that way, when you go pro, you dont need to buy another one to accomodate your new skills. What will u do with your old one? Get it? Good theory, but a bit expensive.
The biggest problem with my A100 is that at the time I bought it, I did not know what I really needed. I never thought of autofocus, which is crap on my camera. I also failed to understand the importance of ISO 1600. The high level of noise on my camera makes it impossible to shoot in certain situations. And I prefer noise over using the built in flash. Using that flash is guaranteed failure... In a split second you smash all colour and dimension out of the picture :(
I just sort of picked nikon for the d80. thought it was the best camera for me. Considered switching for a while but than the d300 hundred came out and I decided to get that because it serve my needs perfectly. I like the fact that the d300 uses almost all of the professional features that the d3 has.
yes I did get the grip. It is expensive compared to some other grips but it is defiantly worth buying if you plan on using the 8fps feature for sports, action or wildlife. If you don't use fast frame rates much then it probably isn't worth it.
I use AA batteries and they crank out 8fps perfectly. I doubt there is much difference. And my normal aa alkine batteries have lasted now for well over 1,200 shoots and they are still going strong.
Ok here's the thing about the battery grips. What do they offer? WEll I can give you a few things that might make u buy one. 1. You can put in 2 nikon batteries. 2. You get higher frame rates. 3. You you have another command dial and also a shutter button on the side when taking portrait shots. 4. Can put in AA batteries as well. 5. Makes the camera look damn hot & just like the original Nikon D2 and D2x. Makes it bulkier and beefier. This is why I got it mainly. MB-D200 is cheaper than D300
Yes I agree, actually I have had a chance to test the D3 and the D300 and both of them completely smash the D200 out of existance! The D200 is a good camera, but anything more than ISO 1200 and there is huge noise. The actual comparison done by Ken Rockwell shows that D200 @ ISO 800 is equal to the D300 @ ISO 3200! Can you imagine? So if you boost D200 to ISO 3200, it would be horrible.
It is true, the ISO performance is spectacular, but I still try not to shoot anything above ISO 1600. But still i moved up from a D70s and the noise on that was terrible compared to my new baby =)
Yep, so true.. But then again, so does the D700. Hehe. When you think you know what to buy, they go put out a better one and screw with our heads...hehe. So frustrating
I selected Nikon over canon because of the feel of the camera in my hand. I.e on/off button, exposure compensation. Dynamic Area AF (tracking) is very very useful. and is in some cases cheaper!
there are websites that are fake they have great prices. Then when you order they charge you alot more on your credit card and you will never get the camera.
type canon 40d into google and go to the site that has dpreview in the address. search the 40d go to the detailed preview. go to the conclusion and look at the cons section. you will find that it says the canon shoots slower than specified.
d300 slightly slower than 40d and some 40ds shoot faster than others around 6.5 fps but the rest shoot slower around 6.3 to 6.0 depending on how slow the frame rate is. I have tested this.
Can any lens fit the D300?

The biggest problem with my A100 is that at the time I bought it, I did not know what I really needed. I never thought of autofocus, which is crap on my camera. I also failed to understand the importance of ISO 1600. The high level of noise on my camera makes it impossible to shoot in certain situations. And I prefer noise over using the built in flash. Using that flash is guaranteed failure... In a split second you smash all colour and dimension out of the picture :(

what was the reason(s)for selecting nikon over canon?
aaguirre123 4 years ago
I just sort of picked nikon for the d80. thought it was the best camera for me. Considered switching for a while but than the d300 hundred came out and I decided to get that because it serve my needs perfectly. I like the fact that the d300 uses almost all of the professional features that the d3 has.

do you have the battery grip for the D300? is so tell me about it please. Debating on whether to get it or not.
Shutterguy 4 years ago
yes I did get the grip. It is expensive compared to some other grips but it is defiantly worth buying if you plan on using the 8fps feature for sports, action or wildlife. If you don't use fast frame rates much then it probably isn't worth it.
QQQQcon 4 years ago
Thanks,
Is there any difference in the speed when using AA's as opposed to the D2,3 battereies?
Shutterguy 4 years ago
I use AA batteries and they crank out 8fps perfectly. I doubt there is much difference. And my normal aa alkine batteries have lasted now for well over 1,200 shoots and they are still going strong.
QQQQcon 4 years ago
Great, defiantely going to buy it, what batteries do you use? I think I will use Eneloop, or any other rechargable battery.
Shutterguy 4 years ago
Ok here's the thing about the battery grips. What do they offer? WEll I can give you a few things that might make u buy one. 1. You can put in 2 nikon batteries. 2. You get higher frame rates. 3. You you have another command dial and also a shutter button on the side when taking portrait shots. 4. Can put in AA batteries as well. 5. Makes the camera look damn hot & just like the original Nikon D2 and D2x. Makes it bulkier and beefier. This is why I got it mainly. MB-D200 is cheaper than D300
seanfer69 3 years ago
I Got the D300 and the Mb-D10 2 weeks ago, lovin it, except there is now a D700.
Shutterguy 3 years ago
Yes I agree, actually I have had a chance to test the D3 and the D300 and both of them completely smash the D200 out of existance! The D200 is a good camera, but anything more than ISO 1200 and there is huge noise. The actual comparison done by Ken Rockwell shows that D200 @ ISO 800 is equal to the D300 @ ISO 3200! Can you imagine? So if you boost D200 to ISO 3200, it would be horrible.
seanfer69 3 years ago
It is true, the ISO performance is spectacular, but I still try not to shoot anything above ISO 1600. But still i moved up from a D70s and the noise on that was terrible compared to my new baby =)
Shutterguy 3 years ago
Yep, so true.. But then again, so does the D700. Hehe. When you think you know what to buy, they go put out a better one and screw with our heads...hehe. So frustrating
seanfer69 3 years ago
I selected Nikon over canon because of the feel of the camera in my hand. I.e on/off button, exposure compensation. Dynamic Area AF (tracking) is very very useful. and is in some cases cheaper!

basic error at the start, "im going to be going over the new features and controls the d80..... has over the d200 "

i'm saving up for the d300, upgrading from the d40x. i just felt like i needed more, good choice?
cognaccognac 4 years ago
If you use the great features that come with it than yes it is a good choice. Remember image quality between the two is pretty much the same.
QQQQcon 4 years ago
um i was just wondering how do you get all these cameras? do you buy them or does the company supply them for you to review?
chuckwagon61291 4 years ago
got the d80 when it came out for my birthday. bought d300 and 18-200mm lens myself. got 12-24mm for sweet sixteen

Yeah thats true about 5.3 fps
TonyGphotography 4 years ago
type canon 40d into google and go to the site that has dpreview in the address. search the 40d go to the detailed preview. go to the conclusion and look at the cons section. you will find that it says the canon shoots slower than specified.
QQQQcon 4 years ago
Yeah thats true about 5.3 fps
TonyGphotography 4 years ago
d300 slightly slower than 40d and some 40ds shoot faster than others around 6.5 fps but the rest shoot slower around 6.3 to 6.0 depending on how slow the frame rate is. I have tested this.
QQQQcon 4 years ago
I think you should Remove the strap next time. Kinda hard for you to put it around and show. But yea, love the d300! Superb!

hmmmm.... 51 AF points, EXPEED, 8fps, 12 MP, Nikon's CLS, ISO performance, you get the point
