  • Why am i watching this...

  • @DougsGraphics Because you find it interesting and deep down you want to learn. Or you just wanted to leave a comment. Either way, thank you for watching and come back any time.

  • Thank you, thank you! I really appreciate your tutorials - this hat is awesome and you have shed light on an otherwise impossible thing for me to learn out of my book alone. I'm off to create!

  • hey, i made this had and it cant seem to fit no one not even the baby

  • TY TY so much, took me a couple of times watching but I was able to make one in a day, and its been 20 years since i picked up a crochet needle !!!

  • what is single crochet?

  • @juliehuynh05 I will send you a beginner tutorial for the single crochet. This cap is made with the single crochet.

  • @tjw1963 Send me it too? Please

  • i am a beginner at this and this video is helping me sooooo much! the magic loop is really, magic :) thanks!

  • Thanks for this video, after having read the previous message I want to say I have always used the chain 4 method but once I caught on to how to do the magic loop… I must say I like this method MUCH better because the opening at the top of the hat is truly as tight as you draw the yarn. I love this. Thanks. I found it to be a nice beanie that fit nicely unlike some of the hats on yarn sleeve inserts.

  • how long is ur memory stick? 4gb? 8gb? 16gb, 32gb? also, what video editing program do u use? ty.

  • @GreyWolfEyes1222 I have internal memory around 30 GB. My other cameras have memory sticks, which I have several 16 and 32 GB sticks. I edit with Sony Vegas Pro.

  • Next time could you please show how to start the beanie using the chain 4 and join method? If you're going to give alternative ways to begin, it would really help if you also illustrated them.

  • Thanx soo much. My mom needed a beanie

  • Note: If you follow the instructions in the video, take in mind that its is a very small beanie. The size of the beanie is for a small baby.

  • Theresa I'm searching Sooo hard for a women's bandana pattern and can't get it. Can you please help?

  • I'm so happy ! (: I actually succeeded this time (: Thanks Teresa ! you're great !!

  • I have made several hats with her video's! So clear with the instructions! I love it! I was wondering! Do you do any baby blankets tjw1963?

  • Do you add in a chain stitch before starting every row right till the end?

  • what age group will it fit? i need circumference 20 inches?

  • NO ONE CAN SEE WHAT YOUR DOING BECAUSE OF YOUR FINGERS IFRONT OF THE

    VIDEO!!!!

  • @BamItzShellie You need to become familiar with the stitches before working on this hat. This tutorial was not made to teach stitches so you should be familiar with the basic stitches prior to attempting this cap.

  • @BamItzShe sure they can if they know what they're doing!

  • @BamItzShellie Why are you yelling? Teresa has a whole channel with 100s of vids, several of which show basic methods in great detail. After much cursing and unraveling (everything takes practice!) I have now made 2 of these hats & am working on a pair of slippers & I didn't even know how to crochet a week ago. Thanks to these awesome vids I am now HOOKED on crochet! And there's my cheesy joke for the day. If I can do it, anyone can, trust me. Good luck!

  • Am new in this art and starting to love the crochet. Already I have done a hat and two bags. But I wonder if I have to cut the first color line when I'm adding the new color??? some one please explain me.

  • i keep ending up with 26 stitches if i increase every 3rd stitch out of 20

  • @jeco5 Just add a couple extra stitches to catch up. This is a forgiving pattern so you can easily add in stitches. No one will notice.

  • why am I having such a hard time with the Magic Loop.

  • I love to watch Teresa's videos. When I need some help or reminders, I only watch hers. Love her. Great video again. Did I say I love her? I do.

  • @sbkir You are so sweet! Thank you! Love to you to! :)

  • @sbkir She is the best, allong with Mikey!

  • At :31 :32 You edited it to where you cut out what you did in terms of looping and you can't see what you did! :/

  • What is the difference between joining and continuing rounds? Thank you :)

  • Iam having problem keeping the same count as you. Do you count the first single chain after you switch colors?

  • @kkeele25 yes you count the first single crochet. I recommend counting stitches as you work so you do not lose count.

  • I understand everything, except the start! the way you make the magic loop kind of confuses me a little

  • @suxaniita You can work a chain 3 and join if you find that easier.

  • cute cap!!! Now here is a skill I wish they would have taught me in school. Its something I would actually use :) I see this isn't really a beginner thing though, I was hoping it might be easy but I see that isn't the case. I better start learning!!!

  • @Powder686 I have a playlist with beginner stitches and a beginner hat made with one color. I will send you the link to both. You do not have to learn all the stitches at once. The easy cap I have is made with the single crochet. You could practice the single crochet and then try out the cap. You will also be learning a crochet circle and rounds as with the cap.

  • @Powder686 I have never crochet in my life and this was my first project and it was very easy.Took me 2 1/2 days(doing it on again off again)

  • If I was going to change colors every 3 rounds, would you suggest I work in a continuous spiral for each 3-round section, or still slip stitch and join every round?

  • @hippymobster You can still work the continual round for 3 rounds. It will be a much neater look. To even off each section, you will slip stitch to join when you change color. Attach the new color and work the continual round for the new color. There will be a slight blip when you start the continual round but it will not be real noticeable compared to a seam from joining each round.

  • @tjw1963 thank you :)

  • thank you very much for this. i have experience making more beret type caps and this video was just what i needed for a basic beanie instruction.

  • @terriblecrashh You are welcome. :)

  • I really need help.

I tried doing the magic loop, but I knew that was never going to work, so I chained four and then connected.

It was not the same size as yours as I was going along. so I did like 5-10 rows of single/increase crochets. But when I got to round nine, its the size of a baby hat!

I think I have a little bit thinner yarn than you.. I used a size 5.5 crochet hook. Should I just do all the rounds again on what I have until it's big enough?

  • @PeytonsProductions If you are using smaller yarn, you will need to work more increase stitches and rounds. An increase stitch is working 2 single crochet in the same stitch. You do not have to work a lot of stitches on each round, just make sure they are evenly worked.

  • Hi Teresa, i would like to make a "slouchy" beanie without the flat top, sort of a rounded top, what do you recommend i do? do you have pattern demostrating this?

  • i like this video very simple by far. but when i crochet it starts to curl ? why? can you please help.

    thank you

  • @left4head11 If it is curling to early, you are missing increase stitches. That is where you work 2 stitches in the same stitch.

  • Can i add earflaps to this hat .I made this pattern for my teenaged girls in differents colors they love it so do i .Love your work thank you.

  • @Jessmpr76 Yes you can add earflaps

  • I love how you joined rnd 1 with rnd 2, I've never seen it done that way and it looks so much smoother than i've ever done. thanks for sharing this pattern!

  • i'm going to try this and as an amature i mean never done this before never held a hook. but i'll try it i am intrigued extensively

  • i cud do well.....but the size of the crochet im confused... :(

  • hi teresa.....pls help....i dont hav the hooks which is in alphabet sizes..mine is measured in millimeteres...so each alphabets represents which size mm can u tell me..?????3,3.5 ,4 ,4.5,5,5.5 which alphabets u r using for these sizes...pls do tell...

  • @ifri9999 The following are the 3 I use most of the time. There are going to be other brands that will use different numbers and letters so it may get confusing. I use Boye crochet hooks.

    G = 4.25

    H = 5

    I = 5.5

  • this pattern makes an excellent kufi.

  • i love it, super easy!!!

  • It's been 20 years since I crocheted, but I have decided to try a crochet my son a batman mask for Halloween. Your tutorial was among the most helpful, so I am going to start with this beanie cap and add earflaps. Do you have any advice for the "mask" part around the eyes & nose? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

  • @linfreud You could probably work a long chain for the eye openings, starting on one side, attach at the center, work the second chain and attach on the other side. Then work stitches around both eye openings.

  • @tjw1963

Thanks for the advice. The mask turned out great. I wish I could post a picture here to share. Your tutorials are super!

  • @linfreud You can do a video response

  • I've been wanting beanies for awhile now because they are cool. They are like 15 bucks places so i thought why not just make it myself thanks for the help :) gonna try to make one this week

  • i only just learned how to make a chain and this so so confusing :(

  • Teresa you're the best!!! I did my firt beanie cap!! yeeeeyyy.. your videos are great!! greettings from Argentina.. (Ps. i like your crochets grips!)

  • @verodc Hello Argentina! Thank you! I have a recent video posted showing how I made the grips. They are using pencil grips and flex tape used with animal and human first aid.

  • @tjw1963 i saw it a few days ago. We dont have those pencil grips here... thank u very much Teresa!!

  • i like your technique but i cant see what your doing because your fingers are in the way :(

  • when your doing the rounds how do you keep it flat? I always have a problem with that even when I chrochet loosely

  • I got lost on round 5 or 4. When you started talkig about increasig. I didn't get it.

  • @fenisc Increasing is where you are working two stitches in the same stitch

  • when you end the rows is it with 2sc in last stitch? on row 3 i ended 26 and 27 with single crotchet in last 2 stitches

  • so what size should it be before you single crochet all the way around?

  • i am using all of the correct materials and my yarn may be a bit thinner, but at the end of the increasing rounds the circle is about the size of the palm of my hand, about 9cm diameter, if i keep single crocheting around, will it get bigger or stay that size? great tutorial by the way. i love your cupcake hat one as well.

  • @MrTomtom147 What I would suggest is for you to work one or two more increase rounds. It is possible that you naturally crochet tight so you may need to modify.

  • I would like to make this with a bulky weight yarn (5). What size crochet hook would you recommend?

  • @junebug017 I would recommend a size L,M or N.

  • Other then crochet can you knit?

  • @valeriepowers I'm sorry but I am not a knitter

  • I can't get past the first (magic) loop. It's hard to see what you do after you wrap the yarn around your fingers and slip the needle under the first piece of yarn...

  • @kristilynn128 If you are familiar with the chain, work a chain 3 or 4 instead. You do not have to work the magic circle.

  • @tjw1963 do you mind sending me the video for the left handed person too?

  • @caboose8809 I did send you the link for the lefty version

  • that so sad, i am left hand

  • @quynhnguyenlovemiley I have this tutorial reversed for the lefty

  • @tjw1963 thank u so much

  • @quynhnguyenlovemiley You are welcome! Please share a picture when you get your hat complete!

  • @quynhnguyenlovemiley You can share images through Google+. If you need an invite let me know.

  • Hi..I have been following some of your tutorials & they are very helpful, especially for a beginner! I was wondering what should I do if i wish to use a different size of yarn (super bulky (6)) instead of the one you use...is it any possible to adjust the gauge?

  • My hat is flat at the top but I am having problems with making longer going down. Was I suppose to use the single crochet to make it longer right I was using half double crochet to to go down. I'm still really confused still, its driving me crazy that I can't get this.

  • @pumpkinseed45 It is made with the single crochet but you should be able to use the half double crochet as well. If the sides are not forming, then you must still be increasing which is making the top of the cap continue in size. Count your stitches and compare to written instructions posted on my crochet blog for an accurate stitch count.

  • @pumpkinseed45 After stopping and starting about 10 times for the last two days I think I finally fixed it. It looks better then it did I'm going to keep going but I had to stop after today my arm started hurting from fixing it so many times I guess. This is the first time I have ever tried to make any thing like this so I probably over did it. I just wanted to make sure I got it right.

  • @pumpkinseed45 Thank you for helping me and all your help.

  • im confused, i dont understand how to make the magic loop can you please make a tutorial or somthing?and i also dont understand you doing the counting......what is that for , srry im a beginner :) plz help im all confused.

  • I can't figure out the magic loop thingy very welll mine always bunches up I learned a diff way to do it... that kinda sorta works

  • i use the same stitch used for the amigurumies that you showed

  • Aww I did my first one ever. And I tried it on and it seems my head won't fit. Hahaha

  • I am new to crochet and I know how to so a chain a single and a double. I want to learn how to the more fun stitches so my hats won't be the same boring stitch over and over. Do you have any other hat videos and do you have other stitch videos? If you do could you send them to ke or maybe make a response. thanks!!

  • @010005050 I am going to send a playlist full of crochet hat tutorials.

  • I'm so glad you showed me how to join colors I have been doing it all wrong this whole time I have been making a baby blanket. That is so much easier then cutting and ting it together.

  • how can i increase the size of the beanie hat???

  • @marhans777 The easiest way to increase is by using a larger crochet hook. If that is not enough, you will work more increase stitches and round. This is where you work 2 single crochet in the same stitch.

  • @tjw1963 thank you as in more increase stiches do you mean instead of two single crochet in the same stitch maybe put three?

And thank you again for the response...

  • What is the size in mm of the flat top please, I am using a 4mm hook with 8 ply yarn. After doing up to round 9, it still looks very small. Thank you.

  • cortate las uñas que no veo ! :)

  • @ynera25 When you increase, you are work two stitches in one stitch. This is so the cap will continue to expand and get larger

  • You know your covering your hands where you are actually working in the beginning of this video right?

Impossible to see what your doing!

  • @BETTER4THEM I am crocheting around the ring. The view may not be the best, but it is visible and you can see that I am working around the ring. I can send you the beginner crochet. If you are a beginner, you will want to learn the basic stitches.

  • I need a hat to fit a 1 year old boy... Will this hat fit?

  • @HeatherBug2007 You can easily modify the size by doing less increase rounds. I suggest you stop increasing between round 6 or 7. There will be some trial and error involved depending on the size of your yarn and hook.

  • can you say to me which wool you used? and where does one get? thx!

  • @mulanie20 I used 4 ply yarn so any type of 4 ply will work. You can get the yarn from walmart or any local craft store.

  • Comment removed

  • I love how clear this video is, the only question I have is how do you join the colours? Do you let the white just hang while you use the other colour or do you cut it or knot it?

  • @shelshi1991 With this tutorial, I am letting the yarn hang and then picking it back up again, carrying it on the inside of the cap. You can cut the yarn each round if you prefer and sew the tails in.

  • TY so much for the tips!!! I ended-up using a bigger hook and adding a couple of extra increases only... That worked perfectly! I've successfully made a two different types of hats, thanks to your videos! Thanks again!

  • @n2damystic32 I am glad you were able to adjust the size

  • your videos are great i have watched about 20 videos yesterday and could not do the hats until i watched ur video, thanks so much for dis tutorial....

  • This is my first time making hats. I've been doing this for 20-something years (my mom taught me). I've made blankets, doilies, potholders, etc...

What I'm having trouble with is size. I have four children & want to make them cute lil hats to wear, but I have not been successful in getting the sizes right. And when I try to increase more to make the hat bigger, it just stays flat and doesn't start curling at all. I have no clue what I'm doing wrong... Any tips to get me back on track? Ty, and I

  • @n2damystic32 When your work continues to get larger and lay flat, that means you are increasing. You will need to stop working increase stitches. I have found that 50-75 stitches are what you will need for an adult size cap using 4-ply yarn. The size crochet hook you use will make the cap larger or smaller so you will need to adjust according.

  • hi tjw..i was just wondering on round 10-24 do we just sc all the way around until i get my length or do i just keep on doing round 9...6sc in each and increase on the 7th? Help me...thanks

  • @izzybelle105 I am estimating an additional 6-10 stitches on another increase round. What you are doing is evenly increasing around. You will divide the last round by the number you choose and increase incrementally.

  • love ur videos..really help me a lot on every project dat i made:)

  • @ZuRaSyaFiRa139 Thank you!

  • This is simply amazing video! You are a wonderful teacher! Thank you

    MrHollick

  • Is this hat big enough for an adult?

  • Im doin this right now,and how long do you think it took?

  • @ Maybe an hour

  • jaga tyckare do virkeö miykete brade mosae (we are facking

  • I started this hat and got about a good amount into the hat and I have seams where I changed the color and you can see it almost like a indentation. Is it supposed to look like that? And that the seams have shifted a bit so its kind of diagonal and now the last 4 rows are looser where the seam is. Oh what have I done?? lol yours looks totally seamless. I am going to start a new hat I WILL conquer this hat. :^) Can you help me?

  • Smashing pumpkins? Who comes up with this? Oh, and what size crochet hook are you using? Martial arts? *shouts to the sky* Tell me!!!

  • How is this in martial arts?!

  • TJW Thank U so much for your hard Work ^___^!

  • @PochiiCircle You are welcome! I appreciate the comment!

  • I have I am trying to get to learn how to do more than chain stitch. This video assumed that I knew what the magic loop was and didn't explain why or how to use 2 strands. I was lost and confirms for me that crotchet is not for me as I just don't get it. What is a single crochet. An I hook mine are are numbers either single numbers or metric like 3.5 - I am hoping that thse are the same as knitting needle sizes so why letters?

  • @harbleblaster I would suggest that you become familiar with the basic crochet stitches first and then come back to this project. I will send you the beginner playlist.

  • This video has captioning and an interactive transcript

  • Sorry to hear you weren't feeling good. Hope you are better.

  • If I want to do more rows in the same color before switching to my next color, what should I do for the last stich of the round?

    Thank you!

  • @MindlessKai You will continue following the instructions using the same color and increasing as necessary. Changing colors is the same if you do 2 rounds or 5 rounds

  • when i have my circle done, how many stitches should i have to fit a 6 year old head?

i love this hat,i did one but it doesn't fit.what age of person doesyour hat here fit?thanks, love your videos.

  • in the first little magic loop, when you do your stitches do you go in between the strands of yarn or just anywhere in the big entire loop?

  • Thank you so much for your help, I can sorta read patterns now

. I am needing to learn to bobble, I have a slouchie berret that calls for a bobble stitch, do you have that step in your videos? Thank you so much

    Karla.bechtel@yahoo.com

  • do you know how to make the monster beanies, like the ones with mike wazowski from monsters inc, if so could you please make a vid.

  • What should I do if I want to add other colors, say towards the end of the hat to make it sort of striped?

  • @akat95 You will cut the yarn and secure to change colors.

  • i can't get the magic loop. how do you do it???

  • me gusta este video me gustaria un poko mas si l tradujeran al español

  • @HERMOSAOSITALG Usted encontrará la traducción de texto en los rubros.

  • @tjw1963 gracias soy nueva en esto k son los rubros

  • Im having the same problem as commenter: rklaforce73.

I would love to do this hat but I cant follow this. Her thumb keeps covering where I need to see where to put the next stitch. :(

  • @WrightPrincess09 Are you new to crochet?

  • @tjw1963 Hi, no I'm not. (Sorry for the delay in answering..was ill)

  • what if you have a larger sized head, and you need your hat to be a larger size

  • @lavenderqueen248 Use a larger crochet hook.

  • im stuck on the magic loop, she turns her hands just a little so i cant tell what im suppose to do. i love the video but i cant get past step one :( please help

  • @rklaforce73 I will send you a video for the magic circle. You can also work a chain 3 and join instead of the magic circle.

  • Ugh mines not working it's not getting any bigger, did u say do two single crochets in one stitch

  • My first hat looks great and now I'm making another one. And I got stuck! I can't figure out how to get 27 stitches on round 3. Round 2 leaves us with 20 stitches, if we increase every 3, the increases would be on stitches 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18 and 1 sc on 19 and 20. But that equals 26. I don't know what I did on my first hat that made it work but now I can't figure it out!

  • @westcoastlovely Just work an extra increase stitch. Sometimes I will throw in an extra increase at the end, which will throw off a multiple. The stitch count does not have to be exact as long as it fits.

  • @tjw1963 Thanks so much for responding. I figured that's what I would do, just want to make sure it was ok. It's awesome that you put so much detail in the instructions and answer questions!! I love my new hobby!! Thank you!!!!

  • @sbrisby25: I've found that it helps to pull on your hat a little to even out the stitches. It's a little harder to explain, but don't pull from the top of the hat, you want to pull from the sides and sort of tug all the way around to get it to even out.

  • Hey Teresa, you say this hat has a little bit of a flatter top to it. What makes it have a flatter top? I'm sure it's the way you increase, but I'm not sure. I've been trying different hat patterns lately and sometimes I get hats that are more pointy at the top, which is the opposite of the flat top. Can you explain please!!?? Thanks!

  • Hi Teresa, thank you so much for posting these videos! I am somewhat new to crocheting and your instructions are so easy to follow.

I'm having a bit of a problem though. My hat is coming out way too small and 'stiff'. I'm using a K hook and I checked my yarn and it says 4-ply worsted. So, I'm wondering what the problem could be. Could it simply be that my yarn is the cheap 'super value' kind?

  • @westcoastlovely You mentioned you are using a size K crochet hook. That should make the hat larger so I think that you may have missed some increase stitches. I would suggest that you double check the stitch count against the written instructions. You can find the link in the video details below the video.

  • @tjw1963 Thank you for responding. I tried it again with some softer yarn (from the baby section) and my hat came out excellent! Thanks again!

  • what is the size of the emmmm "tool"?

It would be very helpfull! ... Thanks for your video!

  • what is the size of the emmmm "tool"?

It would be very helpfull! ... Thanks for your video!

  • @wakmanjames It is a size I/5.5mm crochet hook.

  • Thank you!! All I'm used to is making sort of circle things and rectangles this is VERY helpful

  • This was the most helpful video I have ever found! As a beginner, it was wonderful to be able to understand and complete my first hat!! Thank you so much!

  • @raeshawnacostonis You are welcome!

  • I dont understand how to do the magic loop its very confusing. im not sure what to grab and what to hold

  • @WolfgoddessMia I do have a video tutorial on the magic circle. You can work a chain 3 or 4 instead of the magic circle.
