The Dorchester and her sacrifial Chaplains were part of my growing up in South Boston. The legacy of the Chaplains lives on in the lives of many ministers, priests and rabbis who serve God's people throughout the world. I hope that I can live as sacrificially as they did as a minister of the Gospel today.
My parents had my brother, then me, then World War II. Dad survived. My cousin was aboard the Vestal, moored to the BB U.S.S. Arizona, on 7 Dec 41, and then on the destroyer U.S.S. Knapp in August of 1945 in Tokyo Bay at the time of the japanese surrender. He survived. So many did not. Yes, the Nazis and the fanatics among the Japanese were to blame, but so also the victors with their stupid WW I peace terms that gave Germany a grievance grievously exploited by Nazis.
I'm so sad that only about 1/3 of people came to this pt. 2 from pt. 1. and NO comments? There isn't much you can say but wow I guess but still... Thank you again for posting this video it's a story every American should learn growing up. My Grandpa was on the USS Foote in WW2. They really were the "greatest" generation, at least in modern times. The things they did for us must never be forgotten.
@rachelabombdotcom I still think this is the best video I've posted. I guess people today are too interested in visual entertainment to sit and just listen to someone tell a story.
My uncle used to talk about being on a ship that was carrying nearly 2,000 German POWs. They didn't know how they were going to feed them and the crew as well. He said one morning he got up, and they all had vanished. No one would talk to him about it. He thinks they were thrown overboard. Tough decisions....

I very much appreciate this story being told. War is hell it's true, no other way to see it.
