This is like the animus in that it exploits the ability to look into the past for information that is otherwise hidden or unavailable in the present...however the difference is that Stevens does not de-synchronize should he deviate from what happened in the original timeline. Or so that's how I'm interpreting him getting put into a alternate universe that lags 8 mins behind his original universe. Either way, it's very interesting to think about...great movie!

I just watched this movie last night, and I must say, it exceeded my expectations. It touches on ethics, military code , value of life, and the technological and moral uses that interfere with everything mentioned. Fantastic movie!

There are people who speculate (it's impossible to prove or disprove, so it remains philosophical) on these "forks" (multiverse interpretation of schroedinger's cat, as opposed to the Copenhagen interpretation), but as they said in the movie, it's impossible irl to go from one reality into another. The premise of this movie, however, is that is is possible, because they've fully mapped the human brain (which in irl would lead to much more interesting posthumanistic technology).
