It is Paddy and also his version. This is ripped directly off his solo album from 1975. This isn't the first recording of it though, he recorded with the Barleycorn before this.

This was Paddy's solo effort of his song and as such it is the original version. If you want the best version search for the Barleycorn. If you think that was 'pimped up', Bring them Home by Eire Og is a seriously 'pimped up' version of Paddy's original. :)
