  • how can you tell its compressor surging from the sound of it?

  • the BOV sounds like a chipmunk haha .....anyways nice car

  • its not a compressor surge the hks racing bov sound like that

  • Is Your Bov Even Hooked up?

its just surging not blowing off at all.

and why the hell is your supra so dirty under the hood?

  • Holy compressor surge batman. i like changing my turbos every 100 miles also. man it must be nice to be made of money to not care how your care is tuned.

  • Sorry lol I just misread what you were trying to say. A simple comma there and it makes perfect sense now.

  • I know what a BOV (blow-off valve) and BPV (by-pass valve) are and how they work allright. I just pointed out the fact that you contradicted yourself in your explanation. And yet you did it again in your statement. You say "No Compressor Surge is air not escaping through the BOV and traveling backwards through the turbo" as if the air traveling back to the turbo opposing forces to the blade is NOT compressor surge (No Compressor Surge). I think you meant the opposite. No?

  • I don't get what you're saying. You say your BOV or BPV does allow the pressurized air to escape fast enough and so it exits through the turbo itself. How can the pressurized air exit the turbo itself if the BOV or BPV let it go at the same time? You say that compressor surge happens when the BOV or BPV does allow the pressurized air to escape so it means when it's open but when open there is no surge. Maby I just don't get it if so I'm sorry.

  • what he means is that if there isnt enough boost to push the bov open nothing can escape so where does it go. through the turbo spines it backward and blows out through in the intake port of the turbo really sux it may sound cool but your tubo could explode from the strain

  • compressor surge !

  • is that compressor surging?

  • yep, it's compressor surge on the video...I've removed HKS Racing Type 2 BOV and placed a SSQV instead...sounds nice now and no surge.

  • @Larryc111 how can you tell if its surging by sound?

  • @olsoncor the fluttering

  • @Larryc111 Instead of removing the type 2 why didnt you loosen the spring?? Im debating on if im going to install mine or not??

  • what is compressor surge??

  • if this supra is targa top. then im positive that i saw it once on the street

  • nope, it's hardtop Estonian supra...

  • lol how many red supras are there around hmmm i wonder

lol it looks standard so how can you be sure

  • Because he posted the video ??

I think there are about 10,000 red JDM Supras. Not sure about export.

  • Really nice Supra. I only wish I had a MkIV. I have a MkIII that I'm dropping a 2jz-ge into and a R154 and doing a na-t.

  • hm...2jzge + R154...from soarer? Because R154 from MK3 doesn't directly bolt on...

  • You can use the bellhousing from a 1jz to connect the 2jz and R154. The R154 I have is from a 91 turbo Supra, and the 2jz-ge is from a 95 n/a Supra.

  • Don't get me wrong, the car is &^%#$&@ sick, like the body... But my '88 Supra would smoke it... I got HKS boost controll for up to 20 psi... Like your body style better though =]

  • Maybe, but maybe not...I'm replacing the tranny and will be tuning the car to run high boost on E85 :)

  • that's all compressor surge. bov isn't working

  • This does sound like compressor surge. If it isnt then that suxs b/c I have the same bov.

  • Your boost must be super low. My racing type 2 sounds like that at normal driving. When you boost higher it makes a loud chirp...kinda sounds like a turkey.

  • peak boost was about 7-8 psi

  • compressor surge, no es bueno...

  • thats the bov dumb asssss. it sounds like that

  • los reto cagadas

  • delicious compressor surge!

  • i hope you know that the type 2 bov makes that sound

  • Its sad how people can't read these days.

  • dumbass skylinecelica

  • dude do you even have a car...your just a little kid with 80hd.

  • LMAO at 80hd.

    don't you mean ADHD.

  • LOLLLL!!!!!

  • that was my bad sunnylotto

  • Your bov fails

  • guys, relax. the fluttering is the wastegate not the bov.

  • WOW!! What a drama here!

Calm down guys, i've decided to replace the HKS Racing Type 2 with regular SSQV. This IS a compressor surge! The boost was only .5 bar and this is not enough for this BOV to work properly.

    END OF STORY!

  • Its compressor surge. and to whoever said a bov prevents compressor surge, you're wrong. a bov releases excess boost, and the flutter noise is created when all the boost doesn't get released and its forced back into the turbo. compressor surge can destroy turbo's in no time at all.

  • Yes there is a bov on this Supra, but what a lot of you Fast and the Furious enthusiast don't realise is the flutter is back pressure come back out from the turbo, which in turn is pretty bad for the car.

  • my mom will eat mkIV's for motherfucking thanksgiving dinner. STUFF IT BITCH.

  • compressor surge for sure. its ok keep thinking that and when your turbo blows so much oil into your engine you can get your mom to buy you mkIV

  • That's the BOV...stupids ignorants!!!!!

  • ya you guys are smart! alright! you dont even know how this bov works and yet your calling us stupid. nice style. the race type 2 has two valves one to let all the pressure into the bov then seal it from returning to the piping. the second one releases to atmosphere, purposely fluttering to create this noise. why? because its straight baller.

  • you must admit though it does sound like a bov...

  • Its either compressor surge or he is running too tight of a spring in there. He needs to be running more boost and it wont flutter(if its a spring issue) but it does sound like compressor surge.

  • i think the HKS race type BOV's flutter by them selves, and its not compressor surge..

  • dude that is 100% compressor surge.......

  • i really, really hate when people call this compressor surge. ITS THE BOV, DAMNIT!

  • ya no shit faggot, it is the bov and its called compresser surge u fuckin idiot

  • ur the idiot the purpose for a bov is too prevent compressor surge so how the hell is a bov a compressor surge dumbass

  • i didnt say the bov was the compressor surge, the fuckin flutter is the compressor surge. u can adjust the spring to let the bov do the flutter(compressor surge).

  • i didnt say the bov was the compressor surge, the fuckin flutter is the compressor surge. u can adjust the spring to let the bov do the flutter(compressor surge).

  • Compressor surge is bad. Very bad. You can seize a turbo that way.

  • sweet sound...but also fastest way to wreck a turbo shaft lol gotta love compressor surge

  • that is compressor surge! but i love that sound :D

  • NICE SOUND!!

  • damn, now THAT is the best sounding blow-off valve. way better then HKS's SSQV !!!!

    more effective too.

  • how much was your supra?

  • 345rwhp on a dynomax/mustang dyno...but I killed my W58 tranny after a month :(

  • about 9 psi

  • how many psi are you running?

  • about 9 psi

  • nice! where did you get the bov from? cause i have an rb26dett with the stock bov, and i havent been able to find a type 2 hks bov....

  • bought it at supraforums. com used

  • HAHAHA. First off say the rightful term... It's not "surge" it's BYPASS or more to say... "Blowoff". and that ss.ss.ss.ss sound it what you call a staged blow off

  • Its not compressor surge or the vacuum line newbies. Thats the way the HKS Racing Type 2 is...

  • let me no what performance u manage to get out of it thanxx

  • aaaaaa! zaebcaaa!

  • Hook up the vacuum line to your BOV.

  • Nice compressor surge

  • its not a surge.
