  • How am I supposed to take this seriously when you're wearing dresses?

  • When you show it at full speed it becomes clear how effective Aikido can be.

    Cheers

  • Aikido is the most beautiful martial art Ive known.

  • @mmunis yeah saved my head many times.... the worst one is head on collision wih a speeding car.. im on bike.. i flew into the air landing at ground almost hitting the door (with face) of a still moving car.. i break the fall by my hands.. i suffered only minor bruises. hehe

  • Boaz Sensei I am a Krav Maga Instructor and I love your videos. I see that Martial Art has a (for lack of a better term) spiritual component that deals with balance or harmony and Aikido seems to address such real questions. I see that you address such things and I (After 23 years of practice) I finally began to see that to go to the next level being in harmony with attackers is a true objective rather than just hurting them. I love my style but I see that it is missing this spiritual component.

  • @fairtradeandy it's not spiritual, it's understanding. Aikido comes from Jiu jitsu which shares the same ideas of balance and movement... as should Krav Maga.

  • @H4I2I2EE The flowing hakama conceals the movement of the feet making anticipating uke's moves more difficult. The founder, Morihei Ueshiba, insisted that everyone wear the hakama, but he lived in a time and culture where it was standard formal wear. There are 7 folds in the hakama that symbolise the seven virtues of budo:

    1 - Yuki... courage

    2 - Jin... benevolence.

    3 - Gi... integrity.

    4 - Rei... courtesy.

    5 - Makoto... sincerity

    6 - Chugi... loyalty.

    7 - Meiy... reputation, dignity

  • "Always assume multiple attackers and multiple strikes from attackers"

Yes, indead, Now how do YOU assume to know what multiple attacks and in what sequence to make such a technique effective?

When you take the guess work out in training (unlike in a real situation) then you are only fooling yourself. Your reactions will always lag your attackers UNLESS you strike first. Sensei Ueshiba made THIS point VERY CLEAR. "draw out your attackers"

  • @dobberdoss You are right, but it is hard to explain and describe that with a video. I'm sure this guy knows what you are talking about. I do both Aikido and Chinese Boxing. When I spar, I will use an Aikido technique if the opportunity presents itself. The trick is to literally manipulate your opponent. This is very tricky and takes lots of work. It gets into advanced levels that I don't even understand yet, but know about.

  • ingenious principals

  • This sensei is fantastic. Clear instruction, good demonstration, and practicality in usage.

These techniques aren't predicated on brute strength. If you understand balance, momentum, and movement you will win. The wrist lock, at it's very heart, is a perfect microcosm of the art.

Too many kids that watch martial arts flicks think it's the martial art style that matters. It's what is between your ears that matters more.

  • @mystaBZA i know this is from 9 months ago, but agree. so flippin true.

  • It's easy to deflect a kick when you know which kick is coming. Your choice to "deflect" rather than move your own body to change the angle, reveals your bias of knowing what attack is coming next. A front kick can easily become a roundhouse kick to your face. Do a video giving the attacker the choice which one he is going to use, and then see if your defensive movements change.

  • I like this technique. It ends with a nice clothesline!

  • Looks to me to be a decent human being with skill. All the nonsense talked about aikido(dresses, compliant partners , real streetfighters would kick their asses etc)

indicates the ignorance of most people out there. You spend time and effort getting the skill in a traditional ryu and when the shit goes down on the street the reptilain part of the brain kicks in.You turbo charge that with proper training and that is the crux.Just a comment , no offence to anyone , best wishes to all.

  • why is he not doing kiai?, i want to see him get thrown and not kiai.

  • What did you do to your Uke's thumb? Meanie...:)

  • @shibuki100 not sure how your comment applies to my post.

  • A lot of people have the misconception that Aikido teaches what kinds of technique to use based on the attack. Aikido is 90% balance/joint manipulation, 10% technique. When you learn and understand the movements and limitations of joints, technique becomes natural.

  • lol at 1:25 "When you do this, you actually own them"

  • I have a great desire to learn aikido and wing chun and mix then up as nec.

  • in most occasions you will not have time to think what tech to use, you probably wont see anything coming therefore you will act instinctively and if you got the ART right you will win in most occasions

  • it seems to be a common misconception about what the true art is.. you see, the art teaches you how to move, keep your cool and use force hence use your opponent's force. the moves they teach you are what someone in the past used to do. most of them wont work today BUT if you are used to what i mentioned above you will always be able to save yourself hence bring your opponent down. techs only help you practice the art

  • @somethingandahalf The techniques that you say don't work...don't work for a reason. It's not the technique that's inefficient it's the approach the defender has. If the defender try's to do a technique he is adding energy into the equation which allows uke to be able to perceive it as it's happening. What tori should do is allow the technique to happen instead. Same when you see MMA guys fighting to get an armbar...choke or whatever. Best one's are when they just happen...like magic..:O)

  • i love it, ' if you need to get punched in the face to learn to get your head out of the way, im sorry, youre gonna get punched in the face." thats awesome, training with pain as a motivator to get it right seems to work pretty well imho. great video

  • @badcool9009 I know it is a hakama. It is useful for hiding footwork. I often use a little humor when making comments. If you find this disrespectful that is ok. But realize that this is caused by both of our weaknesses. Practitioners of all martial arts sometimes feel the need to defend their art on the comment page. But is this a good thing? No reply necessary.

  • that sucks you need a lot force and muscles to knock uke down , i am training aikido more than 5 years and i learned that the brute muscle do nothing.

SORRY FOR (may be) BAD ENGLISH.

    AIKIDO FIGHTER SERBIA !!!

  • are you sure he using lot of force? It seems to me that he kick the uke in the throat!

Ja sam trenirao 1 godinu i nisam bas tako iskusan :) U kom klubu ti treniras. Realni ili tradicionalni aikido?

  • usually aikido vids are no more than dancing where the guy just hands a hand to the guy and gets thrown and they way they teach would hardly ever work

this guy obviously has some good street brawling smarts too with his aikido and thats good smarts like this would take aikido very far

  • Thats nice

  • if you have the second hand up you can still block the hook and go for the neck.

  • turn your front of your body into it while blocking - perfect hip throw opportunity coming up

  • why do they wear dresses? is there a reason?

  • @bryan500cc It's really loose pants.

  • @bryan500cc to conceal the movements of the feet traditionally. it also conceals mistakes made from stepping and feet positioning.

  • is aikido an advanced art, or can anyone learn? ive heard that judo is a stepping stone to get to aikido

    Thank

    Bryan

  • aikido is dancing usually. but their concepts of fighting come from traditional arts. so if you can find a dojo where the uke does a correct attack (he won't attack unbalanced and if the tori messes up the technique, he stops and shows him he can strike him), by all means, follow that path. if the uke just makes circles around the tori because that's what he was taught, i'd recommend leaving. and sadly that's what you can find most of the time.

  • they are called hakama pants and they have very loose leggings for good mobility and to cover some foot movement i have a pair myself they are pretty badass

  • @joelaka3pac123 No shit man. People always bash the Hakama. I don't even own one but I think it looks cool. I don't see a dress or M.C. Hamemer pants; I see something like Darth Vader would wear :-D

  • good and interessant

  • I practice Aikido for 6yrs now, and the first thing i learned was not to parry the kick with the hand, so i wouldnt counter this attack like that....

  • hahahaha gary boaz is just a peaceful guy.if i knew who theawakener7 was i would stomp his fukkin ass in front of his momma and feed him to a fukkin whale

  • LOL a whale????

  • Comment removed

  • Well this teaching is in metaphor to speak. its shows you the bear basic of it. In a real situation the kicks may be higher or lower you must learn how to judge and use it for your advantage.

  • "you become the opposite part of what they are"

  • 1) gud vid bt.. m nt a master bt they shud practise wit other fighters(different martial art perhaps) rather than guy from aikido dojo who cnt kick or punch 4 shit. then it wud b more helpful. 2) the bald guy said "i don't wana be right here.." (assuming he has to step a side) bt from 0:30 he hanst moved a single step at all. if its a pushing kick (fully extended) how r u goin 2 apply dat hand motion 2 change the direction of the kick. plus he's nt even kickin directly at him

  • please show us more aikido techniques in street fight

  • Great videos. But tell the guy doing the transcripts that the word is "parry" not perry or bury!!

  • Hahahaha! That's actually pretty darn accurate. Although I'm not sure I know any "whale songs".

  • "I'm sorry but ... you gonna get punched in the face"

    lol

  • Can someone tell me who the sensei is in these videos? And if he has commercially available videos? Thanks in advance.

  • says in description ;)

    - Gary Boaz

as for commercial videos.. search on google, I know he has a myspace, might want to start there, but I think most of his videos are with expertvillage.

  • Comment removed

  • hahahah "Just because it's there" I like that.

  • Thanks Gary,

    I enjoy watching the videos.

  • searh "comkaijudo"

    for more aiki vid.

  • show more respect to a teacher even if he is a yank, even if you dont like him, it's shameful to say such things.

  • Yeah the French are awesome.. French person = I know Aikido! Non-FrenchPerson = show me your best move then! French person = *runs away*

  • the 50s, first country where Aikido was sprayed outside Japan = France, second country = USA. country where the Official Delegate for Europe and Africa was based in the early 60s = France. Steven Seagal is a great aikidoka, I am american and I learned aikido in France with a great master.

none is better than the other, the combination of both is the best

  • It is simply and direct to the point . No wasted time making complex moves.

  • muy buenas tecnicas de verdad me gustan... soy de peru que aprende aikido en argentina hace 4 años la verdad muy buenas

  • I think Aikido is a good supplement to other martial arts studies. Karate has lots angular strikes and kicks, but not so many locks and throws. TKD is kick heavy, but very little grappling and uses a lot of karate's weapons techniques. Kung Fu is circular and has lots of distractions, but not so many direct attacks. A well rouned martial artist has thier core style, but also incorperates techniques from other disciplines.

  • try ninjutsu bujinkan

  • I 2nd that...ninjutsu

  • You can think whatever you want and believe who you want but I'll trust the guys I know that have really used it in life and has saved their butts.

  • Comment removed

  • Try it first before you mock it? Ok, so how about the guy in my dojo who took Aikido for 6 years before a judoka came into his studio and threw him around like a ragdoll? Is that a fair example?

And believe me when I tell you; he's not a small guy and he knew his Aikido.

if you ask him whether that shit actually works, he'll very honestly look you in the eyes and tell you no. He has no agenda, no ideological axe to grind.

    This. Shit. Doesn't. Work.

  • And same thing back, I know cops have used it on the streets and not just against drunk idoits but people against some people who knew how to fight. And your guy, he trained for six years but how do you know that he trained more then once a week and how do you know that the judoka didn't train five six times a week? How long did the judoka guy train, all of these things come into play.

  • And how do you know that my guy didn't train 6 times a week and the judoka didn't train once a week?

  • solpapisolmook

Well, by the same token I think you will find that there was an example of an Aikidoka throwing a third dan Judoka by the name of Gozo Shioda (founder of Yoshinkan style of Aikido) <--he must have thought it worked

...the Aikidokas name was Morhei Ueshiba

  • Yes, very good; the founder of Aikido was able to use it.

If that's the best you got, Jesus Christ.

  • ...and the founder of Yoshinkan...and the founder of Korindo, to name a few...and people that I know personally that have used it in real life situations.

Lots of people suck at lots of things. It doesn't render the whole activity ineffectual.

  • I have used Akido in a real life situation and have to say it does have its uses, BUT it is not effective an allot of situations because its based off of a martial art that was designed to fight armored Samuri in a battlefield. Evolution dictates that fighting styles incorperate, to overcome new situations. I wouldnt say Akido is totally ineffective in real life, but it dosent cover all the bases which means its time to adapt and overcome these new problems instead of spewing old teachings.

  • I agree and also disagree.. its true that you cant prance around like a girl in a dress in a real fight..but there is nothing ineffective about the wrist control techniques and throwing techniques in real life. I would rather be kneeling over a downed opponent in any wrist lock than being on the ground with them trying to use a whole body submission like arm bar etc.

  • Me personally, id rather have Kotegeshi, Iriminage, Shihonage, Nikkyo Sankyo Yanko and Kokyunage if an enemy gives me the oppertunity by rushing in or grabbing me or so on and so forth. But if they are boxing id rather use mauy thai/tae kwondo/kickboxing and or go for a clinch take down with submissions. I believe Akido has some solutions, not ALL... So better you then me.

  • In any fight speed will win, pick a weak spot and keep striking, aim to cripple. Best places to strike are the face (obviously), hands (I know what ur thinking but I made it work for me), kidneys, groin, back of the knees and the throat. Also personal experience and a lot of speculation has led me to realise normal people who haven't had fight training tend to swing a lot and most of their movement is wasted and pointless, which u can use to ur advantage by staying low and keeping ur guard up.

  • back of the head, temple, plexus solaris, side of the neck, adam's apple and knee's make your list more complete.

A kick to the knee can break it obviously. Also, a kick to the side of the thigh also disables the opponent's leg. Low kicks to that area or knee's are almost always perfect one-hit-wonders. :)

  • @Yamainnu thts why yuu have to control the opponents gravity in order for them to flip , see how he pulls or wait till he's a little off blance then he flips or throws etc .

  • @Yamainnu no, because you could get out of an armbar(special technique that i won't teach you lol), but you can't get out of a wrist lock

  • @MrRichard911 Please read and understand my comment before you reply. PLEASE READ IT CAREFULLY AGAIN. Also you CAN get out of a wrist lock. ( and I will teach you this UN-special technique anytime you like.)

  • have no idea what they are doing. Throw a haymaker and see how exposed and vulunarble you are and someone who knows what they are doing will rip that guy to pieces.

People can bash a form all they want but unless they've actually got out there and tried it they don't know what the hell they're talking about, it's like people talking about sports saying that his move wouldn't work on me, ya right bull shit. try and resist an aikido lock and see if you not in the hospital afterwards.

  • If you don't think that those locks can break a bone why don't you look into hapkido, they use a lot of similar locks and no one questions that. Or just watch a video and so how the locks turn the wrist or shoulder and and tell me that your body can turn that why and not be damaged.

Oh and they guy running up just trying to throw haymakers is usually the last person you need to be worried about. They're trying for a one shot knockout and if they hit you'll be in trouble but they obvousily

  • I would use Taekwondo mixed with skills I learned through fighting before I practiced any art, in any situation.

  • Its funny to me everyone that thinks Aikido is a joke. 99% of them have never even been to a class. Aikdo looks very rehearsed and the reason is if your partner didnt go with you and cooperate to some degree.. its a broken limb and most people dont want that.

  • Heh, I like the comment that if you don't get out of the way you're going to get hit. Hard lesson to learn but very true.

What style of Aikido is this?

  • solpapisolmook, You are another idiot who thinks that one martial art is better than another. All martial arts have their strengths and weaknesses and it is the practitioner who will win the fight not the martial art itself. It is all down to how dedicated the practitioner is. Personally I like Aikido as it is a martial art that does not intend to hurt or punish an opponent but disarm or defend from an opponent.

  • Too bad what it intends is not what it accomplishes, faggot.

  • 1:32 Biach got laid out.

Just the second half of the defense technique works beautifully.

  • It seems to be very important to have the palm facing outward not inward for the extra power

  • awesome. i always wanted to know the name of that movie. "Irimi nage "

  • This works well when there is no feinting involved.

  • One of my favs. This works REALLY well with that guy that 'thinks' he is a Tae Kwon Do black belt.

  • never underestimate anyone. No matter how good you think you are or how good you really are.

  • Though I have never practiced Tae Kwon Doe personally from what I understand of the discipline I doubt anyone who has trained in it for a significant period of time would attack in the manner depicted in the video.

  • The preceding comment is a mistake due to youtube and placed out of context....

  • No problem.

  • come on, i could deflect that kick without even touching the leg.

  • I would give my left arm to see this bald guy try this shit on a pissed off Muay Thai fighter, or a wrestler, or a Jiu Jitsu guy, or a Judoka, or pretty much anyone who practices a practical martial art.

I feel bad for him; I believe he honestly thinks this will work.

  • The guy is a BJJ sensei as well as Aikido

  • No he is not. Gary Boaz has "some background" in BJJ. There's a big difference between "some background" and "sensei."

So, either you're stupid, you're lying, or you got the wrong information.

I'm leaning more towards the first two.

  • Sorry - I had the wrong information I guess. You seem to be quite knowledgeable in the martial arts - what do you study yourself? I may be stupid. I am not lying.

I assumed that as he is said to teach BJJ that he might have the qualifications to do so.

  • Still waiting ...

You seem to know enough about the martial arts to judge that "it wouldn't work in real life", and yet you lack the class to point out a fact without resorting to an insult. So what do you practice? BJJ? Muy Thai?

  • There's nothing to "point out"- watch the whole video; that's what I'd point out.

I practice one of the two arts that you mentioned. Either one could be used to destroy an aikidoka. Sorry if the truth hurts.

Actually, I'm not sorry. Suck on it.

  • BJJ is only useful against 1 attacker that is already on the ground. You clearly have some misguided thoughts about fighting and Aikido. And when am I ever going to meet a proffessional fighter on the streets?

Also, what the hell is up with the "just train your nonsense art, jew" comment? A little prejudiced maybe? Or are you just an immature kid trying to act tough?

  • Most arts are useful against one attacker. Your ridiculous randori won't work in real life. Real fights are not a fucking charade like Aikido randori.

The only art I can think of that gives you a standing chance against more than one attacker is Krav Maga. The one art I would NEVER train to defend against ONLY one attacker is Aikido.

I don't really care for your apologist nonsense; there's a reason so many people attack Aikido for being a bunch of bullshit. It's not a coincidence.

  • Well, guess misguided thoughts like yours can't be changed over a comment board. My advice to you, is to find an Aikido dojo that knows what it is doing (most Tomiki dojos are good)and test them out. There are a lot of bullshit dojos out there, but that can be said for any art.

Randori is very effective if it is taught, and done right. Lots of arts can give you a standing chance against more than 1 attacker, you just have to know how to use them.

  • I almost did. Is the NY Aikikai legitimate enough for you? Before going down there, I took a look at their website and training videos (and some on here) and saw more of this same nonsense, and decided against it.

If you think I started out biased against Aikido, you're mistaken; I loved Seagal movies and was very impressed by what I saw...until I looked into it and found out it was all a fraud, orchestrated in a way to make it look legit.

It has its merits, but they're not applicable.

  • I generally try to avoid Aikikai. It has its good dojo's, but most of the bullshit dojos are associated with Aikikai. At least in my experience. As far as the NY Aikikai goes, I haven't really looked into them much.

It is very applicable if you learn how and when to use it. My dojo emphasizes application. We practice scenarios (like the police and special tactics teams), but once the combat starts, anything goes. I've taken many a kidney punch and shot to the groin. haha

  • You decided to study a martial art based on an actor in movie roles? You must be a genius. What a tool. You should join the army. Maybe you can fight a predator like Arnold.

  • My mother's 77. She has althzeimer's. Go ahead she won't remember your small dick.

    Happy Easter!

  • Glad to hear she's not feeling so well. Hope she dies soon.

Happy Easter to you as well!

  • Ya and if i join the us army i could go murder some children

  • Heads up, Spartacus217. If you watch Seagal's movies closely you will notice that he's far better at martial arts than at acting.

That's because he was an Aikido instructor before he went to Hollywood. His Aikido was some of the best out there.

    The More You Know (tm).

  • If aikido is garabage then why do a lot of police departments across the united states teach it in their arrest control tactics?

  • Because the only thing it works for, and I've been saying this in posts that go back about 6 months, is against someone who is moderately resisting arrest. Someone struggling with a police officer, but not outright throwing haymakers and trying to gouge out eyes and shit. Yes, in that case, it can be used. But that is hardly self-defense, my man.

What you should be asking yourself is if it really does work, then why does seemingly everyone who doesn't take it rip it apart and mock it?

  • That's actually crap it does work against someone who is struggling. I've got cop friends who have used it against guys who tried take them down. If you don't think that someone who has warrents out for their arrest and are facing 15-20 years in prison won't try and take down a cop then let me know where you live because that's a hell of a lot safer then where I live.

People rip it because it does look like a dance. If someone fully resist then have of those techniques will break a bone

  • You seem to be the only one ripping it.

  • Solpapisolmook...have we ever met? Have you ever discussed my martial arts background with me??? Quite honestly, unless you want to train with me or as a student, my background is none of your damn business. If you don't like what I do...don't freaking watch! If you like it but have sincere questions, post and I'll do my best to answer them. I have a youtube channel, an email, hell, even a phone number if you have sincere questions. Just don't pretend to know about me when you don't.

  • Just train your nonsense art, Jew.

  • solpapwhatever - so, one racist slur, one homophobic slur, both under just one video.

Looks like Bullshido is bleeding its morons again. Someone get it a tampon.

  • Well open up that purse and grab one, Sally!

  • My name is not Sally, and I'm not grabbing the purse or anything else on your persona.

  • You'll do what I say, bitch!

  • I'm not your foster mom.

  • Nope, you're my bitch!

  • Say hi to your foster mom for me.

  • Who are you? Mark Wahlberg?

  • Call me "dad".

  • I'll call you "cocksucker."

    More apt, you know?

  • I don't need to hear about your fantasies.

  • I agree, cocksucker!

  • I told you to stop addressing me like you do your mom. I understand how you could confuse us, though, 'cause I too have hairy arms.

  • You think wrestling is real!!

  • cock sucker

    respond to shihonage

  • Very cool.

  • yea it would work if you knew what the person was going to throw or if he told you hey ima punch you in your face you ready

  • Yes, it WOULD work if you knew how someone was going to attack. Fortunately it works WHEN you realize how the person IS attacking as well.

  • if you like this, look at nanbudo (demo 2007 or 2008). The principle is the same !

  • My bet would be that you wind up with your face on the cocrete your arm in an inescapable joint lock and your ego severely dented. This form is almost two thousand years old, street fighting ain't gonna do it. But by all means call the guy up and schedule something. He will probably take you up on it.

  • oh cmon, nobody actualy fights like that.

most ppl just charge in with their head, bear-hug and start punching =P

    get real

  • That is a realistic response to someone blocking your kick. A punch to the face from the CLOSEST fist to his face. Many folks charge with head down AFTER they realize that they can't punch or kick you.

  • oh come on! Nobody with any martial arts experience would make a silly comment like yours.

We all know that this is a practice form to learn PRINCIPLES of motion, redirection, and control. If someone attacks with a kick, direct entry IS the best way to deal with it. This guy knows his stuff. It IS real.

  • Funny priorities...we see something in that statement; evidently you "don't." A lot of hot air!

  • Funny priorities? LOL! I didn't say 'priorities' I said 'priciples'.

You are a clod. I stand by my statement.

  • I do :p

  • Yea he just told you to get punched in the face....

  • "Your gonna get punched in the face!"

    This guy is fantastic.

  • That looks like the intro to Segal's first movie.

  • Seagal loves irimi nage for sure.

  • That's Aikido.
