  • MAGNIFICENT MACHINES that they were, the battlewagons are now relics of the past. Even the mere OLIVER HAZARD PERRY class FRIGATES with their TOMOHAWK CRUISE MISSILES have eclipsed them in RANGE and FIREPOWER....at CONSIDERABLY lower cost.

  • Fine @defiant18 , but still watch what you say in the future. And now that I look at it, why I reacted I don't know, because it is obviously a joke. =/ so lol to all your jokes and =P =D

  • either way this ship never even made it in to combat, cos the yanks knew that it wouldn't hold up, in fact even when it did fire(to shoot @ bill clinton who was trying to steal the porn bound 4 japan) it damaged the hull.

  • ive been on the ship its a musem now

  • lose the music and it might be alright

  • It blows through a hill to kill 3 of them. it blows the crap out of t80s. Not to mention the fact that you seriously need to take your head out of your ass and get your facts straight. Get mental help dude, you need it.

  • @TheAnimator40000 pal ur fucking stupid, i need mental help cos a bunch of hicks r stupid enough to fall for the shit im sayin here ?, iv posted a couple of silly comments on here for my own amusement and am surprised at how many monkeys respond with similiar sounding shit. take a breath n realize that this is just a vid bout a bb on utube, im not pissin on graves im not dishonoring a ceremony or anything so drop the childish name calling and grow a brain.

  • OMG @defiant18. You are the biggest idiot I have ever heard. I just went through these comments with my friends, and we were CRACKING UP! I can't believe that you actually think this is true. First of all, the ship was built in 1942, you think the AMERICANS during WWII were smuggling PORN to the JAPANESE!!?? You have got to be the biggest, stupidest, most ignorant moron to be walking this earth. And WTF are you talking about with the tanks? Go look up m1 abrams vs iraqi tanks.

  • @TheAnimator40000 i think u n ur freinds should learn what sarcasm is, iv posted silly comments on this vid for my own fun,

  • @TheAnimator40000 but il glad i made u guys laugh.

  • @TheAnimator40000 also one comments i divulge in to Grandpa Simpson styled ramblings...it was a joke dude, i know the real facts of the ship, i was just curies how many ppl would take me seriously

  • I bet the ship is just on standby for a world war :P

  • I was on the same gun line, in Nam, when that ship was on the gun line.

  • Bullshit music.

  • nar ur all wrong, how about u do sum real research, there are very few ppl who actually know the truth about this ship, it wasnt a battleship, it main job was to smuggle porn in to japan, the guns were just there to hold off bill clinton who was 13 at the time. in order to buy porn u had to ask for a biscuit whitch was the style at the time, give for a biscuit with a edge u would say, anyway, the battleship has been mothballed cos it was a heap of shit, japan would win the war only they ranout

  • also some good news I learned the Big J isn't retired; she's mothballed in case a need of serious naval fire power is needed. I seen her when she was in port at Pearl once. she's huge, impressive and for a battleship downright beautiful. I hope she sees action again someday, or maybe the Navy will let me turn her bridge a living space xD. I'd love to live on that beautiful lady just being around that ship made me feel safe.

  • @legendarytoyou

Don't let the legalese fool you, the Iowas are dead and gone. The support structure is gone and the ships material condition isn't good. Reactivation is only theoretically possible, but in reality it would take several years and cost several hundred millions and that's just for the bare minimum

  • the ship didnt even exist, its American propaganda, it dont matter anyway, we all know usa is doomed, the anti Christ will see to that and of course the FSM.

  • Nice tribute mt friend...I just realized you posted this video on my 39th birthday...Hmmm! Anyway I just toured the USS NewJersey last month because my grandfather fought on the USS Missouri in three wars and I wanted to see one of those Iowa Class Battleships upclose and personal..Thanks for thi video...

  • Why.. the moniker black dragon?? Any help will do!

  • i worked on her in LB NSY....'80....nice worked on gun systems...etc...helped put in tomahawks etc..

  • end title says "music" by (whatever the name of the psychotic racket making twats is) music is AINT! (No wonder so many Americans are braindead listening to that SHIT!!!)

  • good!

  • sleep well Super Dreadnaught!

battleships called dreadnaughts due to old phrase fear god, dread nought

  • what song is this?

  • is this ship a musem now somewere

  • @cammander263 Yes, it's in Philly just north of the naval base. If you have google earth you can find very easy

  • @The506easy Wrong, maybe across from Philly, but the actual location is Camden, NJ.

  • Nice vid, crappy music!!

  • They should be using these in Freaking Libya instead of wasting Tomahawks out there.

  • @frenchtickler0 they had tomahawks installed on them, at least the Jersey did.

  • The Iowas are some of the most deadly, and most beautiful ships ever put to sea.

  • music sucks

  • At some point we will need the battleship again for shock and awe. It wont be all about carriers all the time. Iv'e heard stuff about the RN making battleships. Anyone know anything about this?

  • Comment removed

  • Jesus Christ, is that defiant dude a dumb motherfucker or what? (miai??)

  • I don't know a whole lot about what's pertinent and what's not as far as the Navy goes (I'm Army), but I'll tell you this - these battleships are to this day the coolest looking thing that's ever sailed - and probably saved our asses in WWII - I still hate the Japanese for what they did to the Arizona. May she and her crew rest in peace.

  • Saw several sideways and upside down photos there bud

  • First point- 16" refers to diameter.the ap rounds were 16" diam,6 feet tall and weighed 2700 pounds.High cap rounds aprox 1960 pounds.I served on The Big J for over three years . I worked in main gun battery ( FM Div ).The only nickname we had for her was "The Big J ". The Black Dragon? I don't think so

  • at 1:06 I have that picture in real life.

  • my father was on this ship. served 24 years in the USN retired a LT.

  • I'm sorry, but she only had 1 nickname, the Big J. I should know, I spent 4 years of my life on that ship and am a Plank-owner. I was a member of the recommissioning crew and served through 1981-1985.

    And defiant18 doesn't even deserve a reply.

  • @RLBadKarma So totally agree with you. My Father served aboard her in 50-53 during the Korean War, and told me that she was never ever known as the Black Dragon.

  • @RLBadKarma i still got one thou, even thou u didn't address me directly..

  • I wish I'd had the opportunity to serve on a battlewagon, especially the New Jersey. My cousin was part of the re-commissioning crew in '68, when the Vietnamese delegation in Paris named her specifically as an obstacle to the peace process.

  • uss missouri + uss new jersey = bad ass

  • The New Jersey (BB62) was my dad's ship from the time it was commissioned in 1942 all the way through the end of WWII. Dad was a 20mm Gunner's mate..it does my heart good to know that every time I see a WWII shot of the New Jersey I know my father was on her at that very moment. He was 17 when he went to war in the Pacific and made me promise to never ever let her memory fade into the past...I haven't dad...I'm headed to Camden, NJ to walk in your footsteps !

  • @jcp0129eek My father-in-law was also aboard her during that time, part of the originol crew. He was a gunners mate in 1 of the 5" turrets. He's 87 now. I got to go aboard her in '81 when they re-commissioned the Iowa-class. Took 4 rolls of pictures; it was history come to life.

  • @matapan50 Wow! now that's really a coincidence...dad died in 2003 at 78 years old...ask him if he remembers Tom Peek...I have pics from the Jersey in '42 and dad's war log book with his group division picture in it.

  • @jcp0129eek My last great memory of my Father was going to Camden with him and my brothers to see the ship he proudly served on from 50-53 during the Korean War. To see him walk around this Great lady seeing the pride in his eyes, made me feel really good that I shared that time with him. About a year or so later he passed away. Love you always Dad, and miss you.

  • bad ass mother fucker

  • whats with the fag music. why even put music to this. I mean why retard music oh your so cool

  • SHUT THE F UP gUYS ITS CALLED THE BLACK DRAGON ITS A 5641CLASS BATTLESHIP IT WAS ALSO ADE INTO A SMALL ESCORT ATTACKER SO SHUTUP PEOPLE AND THE SECOND NAME IS NOT BIG J ITS THE NIGHTHAWK DUMBASS

  • @Phuuriond45 Sorry but you are wrong. The people that served on her, or people that had Parents that served on her know the truth. She was never known as the black dragon. Kind of stupid to call a ship that is Battleship gray a black dragon. So take your chill pills and get it right.

  • kickin a** since 1942, bad a** ship if i ever saw one

  • Great video! USS Wisconsin BB-64(1988-91) Vet here.

  • for all who are still wondering: music is Out of Control by Hoobastank

  • my grandfather served on that ship in ww2 as an 18 inch main gunner from when it crossed the panamal chanael in 1943 to 1946

  • @fockwolf189 the guns are 16 inch, not 18. It's the length of the shell that they shoot.

  • i dont know who the fuck you think you are but your dead fucking wrong

  • no no you are some kind of......idk but you are dead wrong and by put that shit up with you moms tits is just your way of saying your wrong

    the end

  • @defiant18 lmao, actualy by now everyone and there grandma knows that they were 16" guns that actualy had better penetrating power than the Japanese 18"They are the most advanced Battleship ever built.rofl and 30knots minimum to cruise with the Essex class carriers.I don't know where your from but every naval historian from evry place on the planet will tell you the same thing.Or maybe you could just read.

  • @Juras187 nar mate u r wrong, i know everything cos i served on the ship, my job was to patch the holes that jap subs put it the hull.

  • @defiant18 totally agree

  • ahhaha dumbass

  • @defiant18 it could do 30 knots dipshit

  • @defiant18 Actually the guns are 16" diameter. The Iowa class was designed as a fast battleship. Cruisers normally had 8" guns.I personally cruised from the Panama canal to Lebanon at a minimum speed of 25 knots and as high as 33 knots for quite a sustained period of time. Our battle group could not keep up for the duration.Could'nt tell you to much about tanks (m1a1 not miai).Penistrate ?Really?I was a weapons specialist and I'd like to know what grenade your talking about.

  • @mjhall61 You seem to be quite an emotional young person.Your disdain for American equipment is quite obvious but your knowledge is lacking.Funny considering Australia uses the M1A1(aprox 59 of them ordered in 2004 for service in 2007).I would have thought that you would have gone with the T90 which entered service around 1992 over the T80s.

  • @mjhall61 Agreed.USS Mahan DDG 42 was assigned escort duty when USS New Jersey chopped into the Med back in "83 & they kept signalling Mahan that she'd better keep up or get left behind.

  • @mjhall61 one made of bitanium

  • @defiant18 Who the fuck told you that?

Yes they could be considered Massive over armored battlecruisers. They lacked the armor of their brethren so that they could keep uo with carrier fleets. But they far out armored and gunned any battlecruiser.

The guns were 16in. not 15.

And they had to be able to do upto 33 knots to do their job to keep up with the new essex class carriers.

Basicly you know shit about what your talking about.

  • @valcan321 u dont know shit

  • @defiant18 Really? Well thats not unbelieveable no one knows everything so.

But about the iowa class i know im right. I've had ALOT of discussions with people who crew, design and build warships.

The Iowa class was a light battleship or heavy battlecruiser. With 16in cannon and a high top speed to keep up with the essex class carriers.

  • @defiant18

you just said the ship didnt even exist but somehow you served on it.. shut the fuck up you stupid bastard

  • @defiant18 You know shit asshole,it is a battle ship, and an M1 Abrams are vertuly impenitreble.acctully learn before making a comment.

  • @defiant18 Wow! What a friggin' idiot! You know, it's kins of a shame we didn't go to war with the Russians in the 80s. The Fulda Gap would've been littered with the broken, burning hulls of Russian tanks. It would've been a slaughter. And on the seas, well, the Red Banner Northern Fleet would've been sent to Davy Jones in a matter of a couple days.

  • @defiant18 You must be retarded. The Iowa class BATTLESHIPs consisted of 6 ships, 2 of which were never completed and eventually scrapped. The ones that were built and served are the USS Iowa, New Jersey, Missouri and Wisconsin. By the way, if they were such a weak ship, tell me why in 50 years of naval service there was not one of these ships lost. Guess nobody wanted to get in the sights of the 15in guns to throw a grenade huh? And they did 30-35knots. Try reading you jackass.

  • @AdamB9098 They were and still are 16 inch.

  • @AdamB9098 none were made, its a conspiracy

  • @defiant18 I wish the u.s.s new jersey would fire a shell so far up your ass you can taste it

  • @Timberwolf8998 I have, i worked on the ship, my job was to make sure the sheels didnt tatse llike whale, cos the japs would have licked it to much, n fyi, the japanese would have won the war if they didnt surender

  • @defiant18 youre so retarded

  • @defiant18 u sir are ufkcing retarded, t80 got raped by ambrahs look up the gulf war, also this ship has 16 inch cannons and fought all ships in japan go troll some where else faggot

  • @defiant18 your a moron the Iowa was a Fast Battleship class with 16inch guns, 12inch belt, 7.5inch deck, and could go 33knots (15 knots is the cruise) The could fire 2 rounds per-minute per gun (18 rounds a minute) with a range of over 24miles, and could hit anywhere with tomahawks. And an FYI not even modern weapons you russians have would even penitrate the deck or belt. But this ship could sink any ship in your navy with 1 16inch shell. Just look up kamikazi hitting USS Missiouri.

  • @defiant18 the Plane was packed with explosives and only left a dent in a little rail on the side of the ship. you dont know shit about the us military or its equipment.

  • @defiant18 fuck u, there far from shit, even if they shit, america won wars with these things, as in WWII america never had a single fuckin TD, besides german wanted to take over the world, fuck that, thats america's job

  • @CaptainDavid1026 couldnt say it better myself

  • EPIC FUCKIN WIN!

    (USA FTW!)

  • @defiant18 wow. not only are your facts completely wrong and misguided, but your grammar is deplorable. if you dont know anything about about anything, then stop saying something about nothing.

  • @defiant18 please killyourself

  • @defiant18

That is one of the most spectacularly idiotic things I've ever heard. Battlecruisers are built for speed, just as battleships are; they wouldn't classify a 15-knot ship as such. The Iowa class could easily hit 32 to keep up with fleet carriers, the guns were 16 inch (not that a half-inch makes that much difference) As for the T-80s, they proved to be shit in urban fighting in Chechnya; guess what a lot of the Abrams' are doing in Baghdad right now?

  • im going to BB-62 tommorow for an overnight school trip ^.^

  • out of all the Preserved BattleShips, New Jersey is the closest Iowa class but is still a bit to far to visit. but ive seen the the next best thing, the South Dakota class, USS Massachusetts it was one vacation I will remember for a long time.

  • Nice ship. The last battlecruisers of USN was North Carolina class?

  • Iowa, New Jersey, Wisconsin, Missouri.

    All IOWA Class battleships.

    North Carolina and Washington

    Both NORTH CAROLINA Class Battleships.

  • Ok thanks.

  • @Waldganger64

USN only built 1 class of 6 battlecruisers, the Lexington though 2 of them were converted to carriers and other 4 canceled.. North Carolina class were battleships

  • I don't get it, what are you "so sorry about'?

  • Big J not black dragon

  • it had two nick names

  • @CaptainDavid1026 Have to agree with USSIowa. My Father served aboard her in Korea 1950-1953 and he said She never was known as black dragon. Her nickname has always been the Big J

  • @CaptainDavid1026 completely right

  • @CaptainDavid1026 You're full of it, My Father served on her, and it was never named the Black Dragon.

  • @USSIowaBattleship61 served 87- Decommissioning, she was a great ship and we only called her The BIG 'J'

  • I served aboard the BIG "J" from 1988 until it was decommissioned in 1991, was in turret #2 left gun as the cradleman and loved every minute.

  • Hello there fellow BB62 sailor. I was on USS NEW JERSEY 1988-89 POIC Lower powder flats.Turret #2. GMG1 Green was the LPO at the time.

  • I remember Bruce green quite well.

    Do you remember GMG2 Purdy???

  • Yeah I have visited the New Jersey. It is quite an impressive sight.

  • new jersey, and iowa are the most powerful us ships

  • Iowa Class, for when you REALLY want something dead.

The Bad-asses of the Seas from WW2 to Desert Storm.

  • Classical music nut here, this music yoiks!!

    0311

  • jar head

  • All of the Iowa class battleships had Marine detachments aboard.

  • I hear that Submarine crews earn more and are the elite of the U.S Navy, so maybe try that???

  • if anything happens to a sub ur gonna have a BAD time. hence why they get paid more- because they are totally hardcore.

  • I hate that copyright thing! It is on my videos too it makes Josh mad!!!!!

  • me to

  • this is where my dad was standing by himself, my mom has the picture, just a couple of years before he passed. He was so proud of that ship.

  • Yah GO NJ all the way the biggest ship ever

  • Song selection could've been better, but hey...

Nevertheless, regardless of the tactical advantage aircraft carriers may have, this is beyond any doubt, the biggest hunk of raw muscle ever to put to sea...truly amazing vessel.

  • Carriers have an advantage in some tactical and strategic situations, not all. The battleship, within its envelope is often a more cost effective platform. Each has its place. Combined, they present any enemy with an unsolvable tactical problem...

  • my grandpa was on this ship during the korean war, he told me this story about reigning doom from miles away and just watching thru binocs a mountainside full of koreans disentigrate and a landslide from the 16'' guns that sent a train they blew apart rolling down the mountainside steamrolling any surviving koreans that were holed up there from the past couple days.. pretty insane. annihilated 4000 troops without any resistance in a few hours, then walked it shooting the ones not dead enough

  • @jdutton198 My father was on her during the Korean War too 1950-53. He said it was totally impressive when all 9 16in guns went off at once.

  • Is this Katz in nature?

  • whats the name of this music?

  • Awesome video!!

  • my dad and i slept there it was comfortable

  • hey people start asking me Qs' and Ill make a show to A's them it's called ?I

  • could u make a video about the south doakta plz i love that ship a mimi iowa

  • u going to do someing about the f4u corsiar f4 phaton and f14 f18 and other navly fighters

  • what is the song?????

  • GO WATH MY VIDS THERE COOL

  • when was the ship going "offline" ?

  • the iwoas were teh most powerful non aircraft carriers afloat after musashi and yamato were sunk ,and the 5th most powerful was hms vanguard i think, idk about 5th, but the only thing vanguard had in advantage over iowas was its bow, which alow better sea handling in heavy seas, you look at a pic of teh vanguard and you will see why, but u still wish that all the iowas were still in commision, along with the 3 or so hundred others that were decomissioned, bring back the 600 ship fleet

  • I am looking for two USS New Jersey sailors currently living in Texas called Marcus and Dave Villereal. Both were onboard the USS New Jersey at the same time during 1969-1970 with Rick Lorezel. You would remember me as Squeaky. Post here if you read this.

  • best of luck finding them:-)

  • Instead of posting here, click on my name and send me a message.

  • these ship should still be in severice there the best warships in the world to this day i lve buy the iowa it sad to to theses gloiers ship just siting there the penical pusher in the navy dont know a thing about real ships not the one hit quiters that make up todays navy

  • ive been on this ship before. kinda made me want to join the navy. shame they dont use battleships anymore

  • The New Jersey was in the Gulf prior to Operation Desert Storm but the Missouri was the one that actually fired the last shots while the NJ was being decommissioned.

  • nice video. i was on the Big J. 83-86

  • people make comments

  • Thank you
