Technical guess regarding Crowbar/Axe shenanigans: either the axe is merely an edit of the crowbar already in the game with all the attached code(damage, sound, etc.) or the axe is programmed in but uses an already present sound clip, specifically a 'Crowbar Whoosh' that the CC picks up on.

Well, popular source mod developers often get hired by Valve.

Thing is, Valve often likes innovation, so I don't know if they appreciate a horror game.

Anyway, I don't see a reason why this would need to be a standalone version. Source seems to do the job well enough and they apparently were dedicated enough to get decent voice acting and skins done.

If you want it to be standalone because you don't have HL2..i'm dissapointed, the HL series is great and you should buy it

The MRI does work like that. It uses an incredibly powerful electromagnet, and it will pull anything metal in the room towards it when turned on. There are lots of great stories where somebody forgot to remove the metal oxygen tanks from the MRI room with extremely expensive consequences. Those machines aint cheap.

Why that MRI machine didn't pull your axe and your pistol right out of your hands is a mystery though. :)
