This doesnt meet any criteria for fascism, the closest is its mild economic reform where fascism requires extreme economic reform.
The sad thing is the usualy suggested alternative is the Republican party, the policies of which are actually much closer to the definition of fascism.
Should have invested in public transportation like Europe did. The US has build it's entire infastructure around everyone having a car and its going to be a huge disaster.
maybe you don't live in a major metropolitan area, but we've got a reliable bus system in milwaukee, no commuter rail though. Chicago does, and the el as well, in addition to the CTA buses. Obviously no high-speed rail yet. The U.S. is a large country. We had a population boom and housing grab into suburban areas postwar, and a favorable situation then with OPEC, so suburbia seemed to work at the time, but obviously not sustainable.
Most cities even small ones had public transport or cab service, very rare now. The major cities have bus/train but most suck especially compared to Europe. GM and others were even fined in LA for successfully conspiring to buy up and undermine the pub. trans. but it was too late. Suburb/interstate was undertaken because it was pushed by auto/oil industry. Even the old rail routes are a complete mess because they would choose direction based on which town(s) gave the biggest subsidies to pass.

Fascism is the marriage of corporations and government; the govt controlling industry without owning it. Mussolini suggested that corporatism was a better name than fascism.
I doubt the Chinese auto industry will be able to compete against Japanese cars. More importantly, I'm sure there are barriers to protect North American industry against a flood of foreign cars.
But Globalization definitely leveled the playing field between competing countries.
F*^k climate change the government is causing Global Warming with Chemtrails! We need to be talking about free energy... this old dude is dumb! Must be an operative...
BS. Auto manufacturers should bear the brunt of their mistakes and poor management, not the tax payers. This notion that any business is so crucial and necessary that tax payers owe them their survival is ludicrous. This isn't news, it's propaganda.
Aside from all the whining about GM, Detroit is a LOST CAUSE because it is and has been run by incompetent morons for decades. Blaming GM for the troubles of Detroit is laughably wrong. Detroit and MI are run on blue state ideals that are PROVEN failures.
Detroit and places like it are a testament failed ideologies. Study it carefully unless you wish to repeat the same mistakes that have led to a miserable failure of a go no where welfare state. The statist philosophy is an abject failure.
clinging to an industry that has metaphorically put a gun to the health of the planet and the lives of future generations is sickly and weak.
ford's model t was probably the worst invention of the last century next to the a-bomb. car culture doesn't make sense environmentally, socially or even economically.
@SolidusLiquid You obviously have been lulled by the Japanese automotive industry, and i dare say the Japanese government to believe such evil things about the Big 3.
The Big 3's cars now a days last just as long as any other japanese automaker
I have a dodge ram 1500, made in 2001, it runs strong to this very day thanks to the Big 3's ability to adjust to Japanese Automaker's predatory trading ((Or something like that)). Japanese companies are still doing this to this very day.
@zerglin87 arent the japanese building cars in america today. i think they have several plants here in america and that doesnt include the other asian companies that have plants here. i think its time that we stop blaming japan because its not going to get us anywhere. in fact, we should learn from them, and if we do, we can improve ourselves and make our auto better and be able to create some jobs that are badly needed.
The most obvious solution to the obesity epidemic is the one that most Americans seem to think is ridiculous:
If it is a local trip (within 5-7 miles or so) and you are going alone: RIDE A GODDAMNED BICYLCLE! And don't eat crappy food from fast-food joints.
It works for me. I'm 43 and I have been drinking several beers a day since I was 16, and I still have a 30 inch waist and can do cartwheels and handstands.
What's happening and has been happening for the last thirty years across the northern United States with the rust belt and the decay of industry and industrial communities is nothing short of tragic: new cars alone won't repair the damage, the auto industry has to expand into new areas if manufacturing is to be revitalized. Building public transit in particular has to be given huge focus.
If only 21st century technology could conjure-up a way to transport large amounts of passengers and cargo at regular intervals across the continent of North America quickly and efficiently and in a less ecologically destructive manner, we could save the planet!
But, no! That is beyond our pre-industrial technology now!
We are just starting to master the rudimentary methods of putting robots on Mars.
Obviously, we have had transcontinental rail in North America for 150 years now, and there are rail systems in Europe and Japan today that are very efficient and clean and extremely fast, but the thing that is holding us all back is that there is a system in place that protects the very most wealthy elites on the planet, and all of them use the oil industry to perpetuate their stranglehold on the rest of us.
Retool GM to make solar panels and wind power generators, retrain the workers to produce them, then take back all the TARP money, close all the biggest banks and give every US home free solar and wind power (and maintenance) provided by the government. Amen!
the same people who pay for everything else (we the taxpayers,) except this time the money would stay in the country and not go to OPEC, it would create green jobs, make us energy independent and actually help to decrease our trade account and allow the US military to pull out of OPEC countries that we invade for the oil. We could also charge up our electric cars and get off these gas guzzlers!
"Fascism should rightly be called corporatism as it is the merger of government and corporate power." -- Benito Mussolini
Look at all the military industry complex, the medical industrial complex, corporate bailouts, corporate tax breaks, corporate subsidies, corporate earmarks, corporate giveaways and general corporate welfare.
Corporations have bought out a majority of the politicians in congress ensuring the corporations get their way.
If you want this industry to survive BUILD GOOD CARS!
You can't keep producing something that no one wants.
