  • so progressive and chaotic.. yet beautiful, I love it :]

  • i want this to play as i die

  • at about 3:00 <3

  • I LOVE Exit Music. Love it. Love it. Love it. Sometimes I sit at my piano and play it all night. Sometimes I call out of work and play it all day. LOVE Exit Music.

  • @AreaCode978 I think its cool that you can PLAY this song on the piano. kudos to you

  • is it me or does he look like robin williams

  • People disliking the song probably are thinking that Christopher didn't get the chords accurately, therefore the song sucks... Help me God.

  • Man, that guy coughing must feel awful after a performance like this!

  • 2:40 the DRUM missing:)

  • @philipeaux ~ Thanx for that Blazing Flash of the Obvious - less obvious, the piano is a percussion instrument.

  • poor guy - really lost

  • T_T i love you radiohead i love you tunes from piano is awesome

  • I love this song so much. Christopher O'riley truly is a fabulous musician and piano player. He has a wonderful talent that not many people posess. Amazing.

  • He nailed this song completely. I loved every second of it. I was going to harshly judge the build, but just watching you can tell he knew it had to be epic, he got into it, and absolutely blew me away. No complaints here, it was awesome!

  • this guy is genius!

  • Now ... we are one ... in everlasting peace ...

  • I think I hear an oops around the 3 minuite mark... but enjoyed. We enjoy the whole album, a different take on Radiohead. Have you heard Chopin 's Prelude, opus 28, no. 4? Interesting to compare the two.

  • @brightphoebus

i've heard many people talking about the similiarity of that Chopin's piece with Exit Music... and some time ago I found something interesting on youtube.. One guy has made some kind of a mashup of the tracks. i think you need to check it out. type "jack conte radiohead chopin" you'll get it

  • Thanks, Yes I watched that. It was really good.

  • I love Jack Conte! hahah he's a famous musician in the making! His mashup was genius in my opinion.

  • comment in reply to: michalkooz33

  • so do I =)

  • O RLY?

  • YA RLY!

  • Comment removed

  • @elsanjuanino it's *O'Riley

  • @myriadeyes Yeah, i know man, i was just kiddin

  • as was I

  • I see what you did there

  • its good to hear renditions of songs like this, you sort of get to hear what someone else felt to a song.

  • Doesn't really capture a lot of the feelings from the original, but still, it's good.

  • i like wen he accents the begining of a chord change he jumps and his hair does a quick jolt.

  • What a wonderful rendition :)

  • i disagree.. why do you think so?

  • let me say that i kind of agree with this recording being pretty bad. the cd version is much better than this.

i posted the other comment before listening/watching.

  • Fuck you.

  • Christopher O'Riley-Paranoid Android FANTASTIC!

  • i hope his next arrangement will be of last flowers by radiohead. i love chris on from the top. never realised he sort of looks like robin williams. was this played at nyu?

  • columbia u.

  • oh yeah, n he and robin williams are both irish. maybe thats what it is? lol ;)

  • What's with all the clapping for no reason?

  • WTF at 2:19, someone cough very badly

  • Bastards!

  • We hope that you choke.. that you choke

  • Well said, Hooper! *claps*

  • Given the thumbs down you've gotten, I don't think they believe you :P

  • sounds great!! can u send me the sheet music?

  • Is he the host from, "from the top"?

  • yup he is.

  • I was at this. This was excellent.

  • I'm no professional pianist... But isn't his timing out a bit? He esp' goes too fast towards the end. Meh.

  • He's doing that on purpose for flair most likely.

  • It's sort of strange that he doesn't even play all the notes that are in his sheet music. To anyone else that is learning the song, is it just me or is his right hand extremely simplified in this performance? He's using a single finger for the earlier chords.

Does this mean that this performance is an earlier version? Because frankly, I find simplifying the right hand like he does in this presentation to be much more beautiful than the sheet music would suggest.

    Pick and choose I guess.

  • I agree with you in that he sometimes over complicates the harmony, maybe in order for the piece to feel more "virtuoso"... who knows? Radiohead is minimalistic all the way, he does his own work a favor when he doesn't try to turn it into a technique show off.

  • Don't really see how you find Radiohead to be minimalist...

  • No...

I think you'll find it's fairly accurate to the sheet music... It looks that way to me anyway.

The whole first verse is only single notes...

I think he is just really really good at bringing out the melody with his pinkie.

Although... the third time he plays the "verse" thing it might be a little more simplified.

    Great performance anyhow! =D

  • Hey NiceDream114, I'm really confused.

He's playing one note with his right hand at the beginning. The first "verse" is indeed one note, but the second time he comes around, those notes should be chords. Look closely at his right hand, and listen to the sound he produces, there's no way he's playing a chord.

Listen to when he actually starts playing chords (much later than what is written in the sheet music). Those chords are very distinguishable (even the softer ones).

  • if you dont mind me asking where abouts did you get the sheet music? or could you possibly send it to me? ty

  • Christopher O'Riley's website has links to where you can buy a booklet of the sheet music. It's well written, the arrangements are quite similar to his albums' versions.

  • its amazing how well radiohead songs translates into a medium of music such as piano. if only the entire world knew how incredible of a job their songs did of describing pure human emotion.... if they did, it'd be a better place.

  • Why does he have to improvise on his left hand?

The beauty of the original was in the simple harmonies.

  • Agreed

  • oooohhh not my kind of thing. Ill try some of his other cover...

  • Listen to his version of "Motion Picture Soundtrack."

  • I'm not doubting that he's a Radiohead fan, but did anyone else notice that he mentioned that this song was featured on the soundtrack of Romeo and Juliet? The only Radiohead song on THAT soundtrack is Talk Show Host...another amazing song. Anyway...I love both versions and I love that he put his own spin on it.

  • yeah i noticed that too.. exit music is just the music played at the credits of romeo and juliet; so at least he was close ;)

  • Exit Music (For a film) was actually written for the end credits of Romeo + Juliet - hence the title. But the band was so happy with it that they asked Baz Luhrmann to leave it off the soundtrack album so that they could use it in OK Computer.

  • Tom york wrote this song specifically for romeo and juliet, but it was dropped by the producers probably because the ending lyrics 'we hope that you choke'.

  • corrections

    A) Thom Yorke

    2) its in the credits

  • And the reason it's not in the soundtrack is because Thom asked Baz to leave it out so they could put it on OK Computer

  • Are you sure Thom Yorke wrote Exit Music specifically for Romeo and Juliet?? I think not.

  • actually. He did.

The Romeo and Juliet movie people needed a soundtrack, and Thom Yorke was more than happy to help out.

and a little later the song was put on OK Computer.

you can hear this song at the ending credits of that movie. (it was made in the 90's and i know i've seen it, but i dont remember much else about it)

Also listen to the song! it makes sense. Romeo and Juliet die together in peace. They hope their fathers choke.

  • Now that you mention it.. Yes, you're probably right. Doh. I was NOT aware of that. Thanks, you learn something new every day!

  • The 'FukkAnonz' message was from me, btw. (It's a side project of mine).

  • Their B-Side Talk Show Host was also played on Romeo and Juliet.

  • he did.

  • Well, he is doing his own transciption, and Thom Yorke gave him approval AND compliments...Chris O'Riley is a hugh fan of Radiohead, and is also a revered classical concert pianist in his own right.

  • That's pretty ironic seeing as how its titled "EXIT music for a film". And you put it at the BEGINNING of your film and all. That's totally Hollywood.

  • My favourite part is right at the beginning when he's all like "I'm totally not looking at the keyboard" and the audience is like all "woah" and he's like "yeah, bitches."

    That. Just. HAPPENED.

  • hells yeah

  • bu adam bunu istanbul'da çaldı ve ben kaçırdım öyle mi! inanamıyorum...

  • This guy really likes Radiohead.

  • Radiohead is the MAXIMO!!

  • christopher O'riley = flawless and incredible.

  • he didn't try to sing, which is good = )

  • HAHAHAHAA!

  • FANTASTIC!!! i Love how into it he is, he's so involved in every part of it, and all the dissonant notes have such a great effect.

  • go to my page for my version of exit music

  • Quote ZoSo6980!!!!!!

  • Very true. Still, I wouldn't mind having his fingers instead of my own...

  • The best tracks is paranoid android and let down!

if somebody can give the video ...

  • Rawoogi should be shot this is a transcendental rendition...

  • radiohead stacks up to mozart i think

  • Lol... I'm a HUGE HuGE Radiohead fan. And they are superb songwriters. But seriously, comparing to mozart or any big composer is way over. They almost invented music.

  • Inspiring.

  • Wow! This is amazing...pure genius!!!

  • achingly beautiful. I have heard Chris play in person both classical and his Radiohead/Elliot Smith. He is truly genuine and can play the piano with awesome virtuosity.

  • Brad Meldhau is my God but this arrangement is exceptional.

  • yes, and Chris does all the arrangements himself, with no overdubs..

  • this song really lends itself so well to chris' piano cover.. love it!

    ghost

  • hey, tired and jetlagged or not, his face looks really cute in this video. i love him.

  • that show was one of my favourites, ever. because delta airlines screwed up, i couldn't arrive until the afternoon of the show. screw jetlag (i guess that explains why i look pretty tired; i flew all the way from los angeles that day). after the concert, i got to see joan baez at a nearby amphitheatre, had a beautiful feast backstage there, and then stayed up to see 'the bad plus' at the club babylon. it was the first time i'd ever seen them. they're my favourite band, i swear.

    cheers!

  • aah, you are, how are u? three years ego i was working for iksv(istanbul foundation culture and arts) and they said u have to take all concert because chris wants, i did, if you want to dvd i can send your adress, thanks fatih

    p.s i apologize for my english :)

  • hey! where was this taped? i don't recognize the backdrop. maybe montreal jazz festival?

thanks for posting it (and for everyone's nice comments)

    cheers,

    chris

  • im so excited seeing him and the bad plus on the 24th in princeton!

  • i can only wonder what does thom yorke or the other band member think about a guy playing their songs in a so composed manner, so out of context because, )well at least me) when i think of radiohead as a band i have this idea of them thats very different of a guy sitting in the piano with a silent crowd listening to the music... maybe im just tripping

  • I think that's one reason the band probably allows him to do them. i have both is radiohead cover albums, and they are amazing. Though the original songs are amazing, this form brings them to a whole different level. "Black Star" played by O'Riley is so amazing.

  • i totally agree with you on that, maybe they feel flatered with their music being played in that manner, i loved the covers too

  • Wow. That was really really good. I like how he didn't make it into a different song half way through, like the jazz version from Melhdru or whoever, it stayed true to the slow and menacing style Radiohead intended it to be.

  • so f'ing good.

  • INSPIRATIONAL !!!

  • christopher o'riley is so amazing.
