  • Where is the latin feeling ?

  • latin feeling..... Negro hernandez.

  • which LP cowbell is he using?

  • By far my favorite drummer.

  • 0:50 !!! OMG!

  • 9 people don't have arms

  • @IluAbbada Is he playing it too fast for you? awww, bless.

  • @IluAbbada You fucking twat. Dave can play lots of genre including jazz. In fact, he is a master of jazz drumming too.

  • @IluAbbada

i see what your saying. and im a huge dave weckl fan.

even though he doesnt lose the salsa "feel" more into the solo it is still a great solo.

horacio and weckl are both great drummers. you cant compare them cus they each have heir ups and downs.

  • @BowDownMufasa im sorry. even though he DOES lose the salsa feel...

  • WECKL IS GOD !!!YES , YES .

  • I love the way he incorporates flams in his licks...and i totally am chuckin these nutts on that yamaha

  • describing the history of drums in two words: Dave Weckl

  • Dave Weckl can play anything. That's what makes him one of the greatest of all time.

  • 9 people are clearly not drummers......come to think of it they may not even be human!

  • Weckl=chuck norris on drums

  • I love Neil Peart, but he looks like a beginner compared to Weckl

  • it sounds to me like he is playing a paradiddle

  • sounds like hes playing a paradiddle.

  • 0.59-1.02 What the....?!

  • this set sounds like heaven

  • There's enough subtlety for all of the drummers to understand it, but there's enough raw talent and musicality to let others enjoy it. Amazing

  • so perfect!

  • You can always approximate the year by the length of the mullett.

  • @jedphelym @TVOham For fuck's sake, guys don't you realize he's just kidding?

  • I am a great fan of Dave...I have seen here in Brazil with the Chick Korea,,,one of the greatest shows I have seen in my life...Here i would just like toi add my 0,50 cents and show a samba school with 380 percussionists...Hope u giys like it!

  • OK!

  • Tommy Lee wins every time, bigger drums , more money, hotter babes, MTV Video Awards, Grammys, mansions, TV shows, endorsements, DJ gear, drumsticks and cymbals made on his name.. TOMMY LEE the Real American Drummer (w a bigger penis) lol

  • Comment removed

  • @checkabreak

This is the biggest failure post I've ever seen, and Tommy Lee is an absolute media noob drummer. He's almost in the negative league with Barker.

  • @TVOham perhaps you're jealous? travis rock so hard by the way same school, what? less is more only applies to jazz players? what about rock players? anyways, Vinnie Weckl and all the Gads BLOW LOL

  • @checkabreak

You're obviously not a drummer, so your opinion really doesn't matter. You're just like those preteen girls who love Justin Bieber, the talentless wonder!

  • @TVOham Dude check it out i can play "wild side" "girls girls girls" and nefertiti by miles davis bro !!! Look Travis and Tommy rules !! that's it !! who plays better tommy !! the most money? tommy !! and he's from brazil so you know he got that salso latin beat muy bueno !! :D

  • @checkabreak

I don't care about the money, I care about the music(like a real drummer would), and Tommy doesn't compete with Weckl. Not even close.

  • @checkabreak You are an idiot. "Vinnie Weckl and all the Gads BLOW LOL" is probably one of the dumbest things ever said.

Just as TVOham said, you're obviously not a drummer, and if you are, you shouldn't be.

  • @jedphelym Listen Bro Weckl is not a latin drummer Bro, he's not even latin, he's timing is super stiff and everybody knows that Bro. Tommy Lee got that groove down B !! Tommy Lee is from Brazil i plays rock fuck hot chicks and hangs out with rappers like 50 cent !! Ok Bro you just jealous :D

  • @checkabreak You do have a point, 'less is more', DOES apply to rock...... just not in the improvisational context

  • @checkabreak

i hope you're kidding !! tommy lee fuckin sucks !! tommy lee and dave weckl aint fitting in the same sentence, they don't even fit on the same planet !

  • Dave always makes a drum solo so enjoyable to listen to. He uses the drums as a real self contained solo instrument.

  • Great drummer, amazing. Your right up there with buddy rich...

  • The composure of this solo is so brilliant, I would not struggle to say this is one of the most brilliant solos devised in the history of drum set!

  • Such brilliant solo design its amazing enough to cry over!

  • I learned how to play this it was painfully difficult but i pretty much have it down almost as good as him! But hes genius to create this. It took 2 months and I have to play it regularly to maintain it.

  • master drummer and mullet grower.

  • Dave Weckl is the most musical and creative drummer ever!

  • what's amazing isn't just the technicallity of what he's playing but how he keeps time perfectly while playing it..

  • does anyone know the name of this other latin drummer ? his last name was greck or something like that starting with G , thanks !

  • @love2punk You might be thinking of Benny Greb, but neither he nor Dave can really be pegged as "latin drummers."

  • @cole2paul Ohk thanks man , also he does the 3/2 Rumba clave thing with one and , as in he plays the accents with one hand on the snare and then plays a Latin beat over the top.

  • I´ll never try to play the drums again,,,,

  • is he god?

  • there is no best

  • I would say weckl is a very musical drummer, in fact d most musical drummer ever.. not that skillful but enough to entertain people.. If i'd want some technical shit, i'll look for Virgil Donati or Thomas Lang per se..

  • ninja

  • this is professional.

  • My band teacher hates the hell out of double bass pedals, but always tells me to listen to Steve Gadd, Dave Weckl, and Vinnie Caliouti. Wait till I tell him I now have 2 of them in videos using one XD. Sick ass solo, the toms at about 45-53 blew my mind.

  • Want to hear a great latin drum solo? Look at the video of JImmy Lavaca on Best of Vangardia with the Jose Curbello band. With a pair of Timbales and one base, one symbol he makes more music in 30 seconds than anyone before or maybe after.

  • I am learning this solo I am up to 58 seconds on the vid. I am able to feel the details of it and its mind blowingly genious! Stunning!

  • His left hand at 49 seconds on the left snare drum is almost undetectable!

  • Nothing short of amazing ... Dave is Awesome .. and can play anything .. he is so NOT a one trick pony !

  • is the best

  • This is one of the most brilliant solos in the world. The placement of each note is unbeleivablly constructed to set up the next note which ultimately leads it to sounding highly musical and rediculously ingenious!

  • the first beat is awesome. He makes it sound like a whole section of percussions are playing together.

  • @cheemooo ???show me faster, and difficulter pls at the same time.

  • ? @cheemooo show me, faster, and difficulter. Ok Thomas Lang is fast as hell, but not THAT faster, that it 'd make a difference

Weckl is the best drummer in the world imo.

  • Weckl sure does seem to indicate that he is the best in the world I am hard pressed to see anyone that shows me much better so far.

  • watch his left hand. and cheemooo let me know if u can play this. i'm curious

  • So far I have learned up to 21 seconds, it takes me around 3 hours to learn 7 seconds of the drum parts shown here. Then I have to play them a few times in a row for it to feel natural, its coming along I think I could have the whole solo whitin in 3 to 5 weeks depending on if I play daily or take breaks!

  • most drummers even those considered great dont show as much seemingly endless flow of prhasing as Weckl does. Dave may not be a player that plays the most difficult to execute drum parts or the fastest, but he sure can seam rythem like no one else. His drumming is simple yet complicated in a way that no one else comes close to playing like, I have just started learning this solo and I am getting it but it is challening. I have learned other arduous drum parts so I know I can do it!

  • "beautiful"... so fukin beautiful.

  • he is sofucking good!

  • mmm....seems like this guy knows his rudiments lol!

  • @haolekillah The whole video is Weckl soloing?

  • ive got a pretty sweet drumset, but his makes mine look like shit lol

plus hes like 50 times better too

  • It's Dave Weckl, don't search more.

  • Close your eyes and you can imagine at least 3 people, a drummer and some percussionists playing at the same time at the first few seconds of the solo. Phenomenal stuff. I don't know how he manages to express those complicated stickings and pedal movements in his head. Awesome.

  • He's Dave Weckl.. as simple as that!

  • @drumsticks10593 most likely shear practice, concentration, and dedication.. which is ridiculously hard to consistently achieve at the same level.

  • @drumsticks10593 It's the mullet.

  • he looks like a cross between al gore an jerry sinefold

  • this comment got me laughing and I dont laugh at comments online much so thats saying alot!

  • At first I thought there was a timbale player we couldn't see, jamming along with him. Then I read the comments and nobody mentioned it, so I watched it again. My God, he's doing that all by himself! There's no way anyone could play that well without being a born drummer and working their ass off at the same time. What a great combination.

  • What an amazing solo. This was soo impressive.

  • THAT WAS DIRRRRRRRTY!

  • Holy Shit!

  • Oh MY GOD!! O_O

  • his flow is amazing? he's absolutely the god of Latin music! =]

  • i like Dave Weckl better than Horacio Hernandez, but Hernandez is also VERY good too!

  • Wow:) brilliant...he really does make it look so effortless.

  • his flow is amazing

  • Always making the impossible look effortless. Incredible.

  • N°1..

  • ---->80...(look sideways)

  • Guys Im not a drummer and i do not intend to compare musicians just for declaring whos better.. but i wanna know your opinion.. Dave Weckl or Horacio Hernandez? My favorite is Hernandez :)

  • I like both of them and i can tell that Horacio is better in the latin feeling because his was born with the latin style inside, you know he's cuban. In my opinion i like more Horacio when it comes to this lating style. But Weckl is also a very good drummer..

  • get back to me in like 8 months lol. I'm seeing Wekle this year and i saw Horacio last year. At the momment i'd say Horacio but im kind of one sided seeing as ive heard alot more Horacio and own a couple of his books. But what i'd say it really comes down to is the fact of who you think sounds better. You can play the most difficult stuff in the world but it really comes down to musical value not the difficulty of the peice.

  • msh9322, I appreciate your diplomacy! Hernandez plays latin GREAT! But that's it. That's really all he plays. Weckl, Vinnie, and the like, play EVERYTHING from latin to jazz to funk to fusion to pop to big-band swing to techno to rap to hip-hop, etc. That's why these monsters are considered great. They will play anything and everything extremely well, and sight-read it as well!! But I agree with you, it's NOT a fucking stupid contest:) It's all great!!! It's all beautiful MUSIC!!!:)

  • i agree with you, music is not a sport/contest. Im sure Hernandez can play jazz, funk, pretty much any genre he would like to play, however, what he does is mostly latin. just as im sure robert fripp, al dimeola, alan holdsworth, and greg howe could probably wail metal chops...but, thats not what they do. everyone seems to pick a genre that is the most intriguing to them. Hernandez obviously loves latin, but im sure he is rather competent in all styles.

  • got one word-----SICK

  • awosome

  • SABROSO!

  • Is it me, or did his left hand become its own Latin percussion section for a few bars? Wow!

  • MONSTER OF DRUM!

  • para mi es uno de los mejores bateristas del mundo

  • agreed... hands down... Eloy Casagranda may be sawing the legs of his chair in a few years though... or... naaah...

  • My IDOL! wanna play drums like him damn!

  • gah he's amazing

  • EL REY

  • And right here ladies and gentlemen we have the greatest drummer who ever lived.

    Absolutely off the hook!

  • @QuasiSane45 and i thank god that i had the oportunity to met him. that was the greatest thing that happened to my life!

  • In my opinion, Dave is the most skillful drummer in the history of the instrument. Buddy Rich and Art Blakey were of course among the greatest of innovators, and guys like Colaiuta and Chambers are very similar to Weckl when it comes to overall drumming skills...

But Dave Weckl is hands down the alltime champion of drumming.

  • Well, there is no such thing as "champion of drumming" though I completely angree with you about weckl being one of the greatest.

Though I have never seen a drummer with more feel and understanding than Gavin Harrison, you should check his song "19 days" out here on youtube. Also, you must add Steve Gadd as one of the great inventors, even though it's sort of a cliche. ;)

  • Id say Dave is more musical than all of the above mentioned drummers!

  • @BeejayHelmetson When I hear a person like Beejay say Weckl is similar to Chambers makes know since if he knows drumming and music. Dave is always smooth quote un quote because he plays the same music, the same style, and the same tiempo, always. Please expand your music knowledge listen to 10 different artist that Chambers and Weckl play with. You will hear the same style every time when you hear Weckl. Stop this Weckl is the best and similar to Colaiuta and Chambers.

  • @BeejayHelmetson I don't agree. First of all, I don't think there's such a thing as "the alltime champion of drumming." I appreciate Weckl and what he does, but I personally prefer many drummers over him. I feel like almost all of these professional drummers that we revere are so incredibly skilled that it's almost stupid to compare them and say "this one is BETTER." Each drummer will have their own unique style, making the comparisons subjective.

  • @BeejayHelmetson what about jeff queen?

  • @BeejayHelmetson what about carter beauford? he's not very much mentioned but i think he is kinda on par with weckl in terms of creativity and musicality.

  • I agree with that. Very musical, very high energy. great feel. I remember loving his playing with Chic Corea in the late 80's/ early 90's. MAN! LOVE IT.

  • @BeejayHelmetson Good point, but go watch JoJo Mayer. He's right there with the great Dave Weckl when it comes to "Ground Breaking" drummers

  • @BeejayHelmetson Steve Gadd is the best!

  • @BeejayHelmetson i love dave's playing and style and i see ur point but clearly vinnie colaiuta is the best technicality-wise. he's a monster...much more intense, great dynamics, and his arsenal of jaw-dropping signature fills and licks are endless bar none. i will say dave is one of my all time favs because of his fluidity and his genius use of paradiddles, flams, and various rudiments on the set. both are great imo....love their styles equally

  • @BeejayHelmetson Absolutely agree with you, sir: This man is NUMBER ONE on drum in all the world (and history). Have you listened the piece "dis'place this" on his "Hard wired" GRP cd??? It's simply unbelievable!!!

  • Omg..... He plays so masterfully. I can't even believe how perfect his technique is.

  • part god

  • I love the singles between hand and foot around 1:00. He's flawless when it comes to groove and flow.

  • dave weckl is the sh*t! i love watching his solos on video. i saw his clinic in dallas in dec 2003. its even more badass when you see him live.

  • what the heck?!! i've got no idea why this happened.... i'll upload it again!

  • Where is the old video???????????????

  • I want the old video back, please!!!!!!!

    Could somebody hear me????????????

  • why the original video has been changed for this short video? sorry my little english

  • It´s short, but one of the best drum solos i´ve ever seen..

This man´s second name is TECHNIC

  • music

  • you know that the devil(lucifer)was the arcangel and the commander of the celestial music well dave weckl is the fallen arcangel and general of the celestial percusion

  • the best!!

  • É, tocou direitinho!! Sacanagem!! Huahuahauuhua!! O kra é foda demais!!

  • ............ simply amazing awesome!!!! the king of drum! dad of drummer!

  • I agree humper

  • absolutely phenomenal. what i would like is if he'd just spend a little more time on the grooves he plays, not just wanking the kit, which he does VERY well.

  • Agree, maybe he does it so we wont take his ideas...XD. But I do agree with you.

  • one of the best drummers in the world...........

  • OMG!!

  • just amazing!!!
