I used to drive in bad weather...till a friend of mine rolled a truck in the snow ..he got $500 fine, points, and his company left him out on a island , telling him that he didnt have to be driving in unsafe conditions...If your a owner operator its a different story...but for a company..as soon as the salt and pepper shakers come out I park it..
Yepper been there done that -- sometimes ya gota do what you can to get the job done and be safe and safe for the public. -- i have been County plow operator for 27 years now, in Wyoming
my friends mom was drinving home in a snow storm and lost control going downa hill and drove head on into a plow ha she was lucky to just get out of her car and go home
YOU were driving too fast for those conditions. You should approach any corner you can't see past slowly in snow/ice. What if there's been an accident, what if there's a snow plow around there even in your lane just going slow??
Conditions were most likely supposed to get icy quickly and the salt truck was attempting to get salt on both lanes as quickly as possible to avoid a real mess. Some times things are not what they seem.
I own a snow removal company and have driven state trucks for years when i was younger.
@westsidemonster A guy leaves a bar after a night of drinking. After driving down the road for a while he finds that he needs to call his buddy. "Hey Joe", he shouts to Joe at the other end of the phone call. "These people are all crazy out here! I tell ya, they are all driving on the wrong side of the road!"
@nek0s All the salt/plow trucks have spinners to spread the salt, for low speed situations, but at normal traling speed the salt will spread across most of a two lane road without having to be on the wrong side of center,as the chute is on the driver side of the truck.
@stress326 Im sure when you drive a truck in snow (or any other conditions for that matter) you learn you vehical and how it behaves (if that makes sense) and so this truck driver has the skilll to drive a little faster in snowy cond. because he probly does it all the time. Not everyone is born in Hawii.
@stress326 he wasn't driving fast!!!!!! in canada we get snow for up to half of the year so everyone here is used to driving in it. We use winter tires and have enough experience to allow us to drive at a faster rate of speed than someone who isn't used to driving in it would. And the conditions in this video didn't look that bad really, just a bit of snow.
@brentlovestoweld While I'd have to agree, we are used to it, alot of guys driving trucks out there right now are irresponsible drivers, and they do speed on the ice and snow when they shouldn't. It's always guys that say things like this that end up dead. I've seen it a hundred times in my truck driving career. Definitely not saying the poster was doing anything wrong though, the road might have not been slippery at all. Looks can be deceiving.
HOLY SHIIT! thats friggin insanity man...make no wonder people are dying on our highways! fucking government asshholes figuring they can do whatever with no consequences...
I thought for sure the trailer was going to hit him..just missed..question is,why is that dumb bastard on my side..if I hit the break we would have been in a world of hurt..
I was trying to capture this late snow on the trees and hill side, when holy crap this plow came at me on my side..funny thing I didn't curse till I figured everything was all right then the swear words flew..
why.......

You are driving too fast for conditions. If he was stopped in your lane, by the time you saw him would you have been able to stop before hitting him?
Can't go around blind curves and hit someone/something.
robertgift 4 months ago
He was trying to get both lanes gritted, as there is a higher accident risk on a blind, icy, snow-covered, curve.
