I read a study in 2005 that reported the numbers of people on death row since the reinstatement of the death penalty that had their sentences overturned on DNA evidence. The fraction was just over 9%. That's roughly 1 in 10 innocent people on death row from 1976 to ~2003. This failure rate is the primary reason why I am against a death penalty.
Makes you wonder just how many innocent men/women have been executed in Texas. I know in Dallas County, alone, there have been 21 exonerations via DNA testing... but this is a new low even for Perry... can't wait to vote his @ss out next year...
Why does this guy keep saying "Texans support the death penalty" as an explanation for executing innocent people? I know Texans are bad people overall, but you'd think this guy could present a rational argument. And Hutchison would be no better than Perry on this issue.
I used to live in Texas, and, although it's not a good argument, it IS a rational one. Texas is a weird state. You may carry a concealed weapon if you have a certain amount of money on your person (I think $5000, but don't quote me on that because I'm not certain), you may carry an unconcealable weapon openly in public, archaic laws allow someone to be arrested on suspicion of rape if a shoeless woman accuses him of it. The laws there are based on the old west, and that's the way they like it.

he doesn't have to present an argument, hes not doing the executing ... he is analyzing/speculating why that governor did what he did
