Me and my girl we both drive on the same truck in europe, the biggest problem is that a car makes a mistake, or delibertly cuts in front of us and we get in trouble, and if an accident occurs the car is long gone and its the fault of the big bad truck.... car-drivers should have a litte more understanding and patience with trucks, even more if you concider that everything you see or thouch as been on a truck at one time even the car they drive in
When I got my licence I did an advanced driver training course soon after, also I joined a real car club one that was registered with CAMS (motorsport organisation in Australia)

This was on the old Ipswich "Motorway" (and I use the term loosely) at Wacol. Seems to me the truck came over the hill doing the speed limit, only to find a tailback in front of him, and he couldn't slow down enough on the downhill slope.
This crash was one of the reasons that the Ipswich Motorway was upgraded.That hilltop has been largely removed, and the road is about five lanes wide on each side at that point now.
I hear opinions that it's either brakes or he's an asshole. Either way, he'd be an asshole. If you have a big rig and the brakes are shot, do you use 10 cars to slow you down, risking having them as fatalities, or do you remove yourself from the road and brace yourself? My guess is that he fell asleep at the wheel, woke up confused and dazed (with a thumping loud alarm clock) and tried to flee the scene. I'd LOVE to read the police report and his statement.... "um... er..."

Take this for example...was this caused by a car cutting up the truck? .... I doubt it, the traffic was already there... so blatantly the truck either had brake failure or the driver wasn't paying attention!
On any other crash I'd say that is a possibility, but from watching this I don't see how the driver could have been shielded from a tailback. If there is a blind corner or blind crest I tend not to go screaming around or over it in my car, I think if i was driving a truck i'd be even more cautious....

Trucks often times cannot keep their speed low enough, because their brakes heat up and become less effective. His brakes were probably absolutely shot, and maybe even on fire, and I'm guessing he had his foot on the brakes as hard as he could and it still made no difference. Honestly, there might not have been much he could do...
At the time of that accident it was 100km/h zone. The investigation into the accident revealed the driver couldnt pull up after coming over the rise and spotting stopped traffic. It was the drivers fault. Since the accident and another fatal a few weeks later speed limit was reduced to 90km/h for the whole stretch. Now they are adding more lanes, and with roadworks, full length is 80km/h.
it'd say maybe the main brake valve on the trailer has failed... a loaded truck won't pull up from 90km/hr with that happening. If the truck was to run out of air the brakes would come on.

I have traveled that road very often it is 90 klm zone and very hilly it happens quite often that the traffic stops for no apparent reason if you dont travel on this road often it can catch you out i use to drive bus and my wife has been push up this road sideways by a truck hey shit happens to everybody some time

This driver did not lose his brakes,If the systemhad run out of air,his brakes would come on immediately.This driver simply was going too fast crested the top of the hill and because of his speed,he could not stop fast enough and the end results are what you see.Simply put...Driver Error...

@GTOOtt I agree, I think with those guys its signal manoeuvre (if your lucky enough to get a signal that is) then check the mirror to make sure no cars are stuck to the side of them, I almost got took out by a car transporter today doing exactly that.

@GTOOtt ive been driving big rigs for 26 years mate and not one accident.i drive all day every day most car drivers drive to and from work always in a rush.there was a servey not so long back on stats on crashes involving rigs and cars.84 percent after investigation was down to driver error on the car drivers behalf.i am not getting at you just general car drivers in my view all should have to drive a big rig for a while before they get there car licence so they have a bit of respect for trucks.

This was on the old Ipswich "Motorway" (and I use the term loosely) at Wacol. Seems to me the truck came over the hill doing the speed limit, only to find a tailback in front of him, and he couldn't slow down enough on the downhill slope.
This crash was one of the reasons that the Ipswich Motorway was upgraded.That hilltop has been largely removed, and the road is about five lanes wide on each side at that point now.

I hear opinions that it's either brakes or he's an asshole. Either way, he'd be an asshole. If you have a big rig and the brakes are shot, do you use 10 cars to slow you down, risking having them as fatalities, or do you remove yourself from the road and brace yourself? My guess is that he fell asleep at the wheel, woke up confused and dazed (with a thumping loud alarm clock) and tried to flee the scene. I'd LOVE to read the police report and his statement.... "um... er..."

@vical87 I'm not yelling at you, but in this incident the semi driver was not paying full attention to the road, and the traffic ahead had slowed down, he didn't until the last second(not paying attention) and ran into 4 cars and a few others became involved.

I drive a heavy vehicle and try and leave a safe gap to stop BUT there are always cunts in cars cutting infront and hitting the brakes . Take this for example...was this caused by a car cutting up the truck? .... I doubt it, the traffic was already there... so blatantly the truck either had brake failure or the driver wasn't paying attention!

On any other crash I'd say that is a possibility, but from watching this I don't see how the driver could have been shielded from a tailback. If there is a blind corner or blind crest I tend not to go screaming around or over it in my car, I think if i was driving a truck i'd be even more cautious....

I stay way clear of lorries, I never travel next to them or in front of them, slowing them down. I have seen nasty accidents like this video and know my chances against a lorry are zero. People should learn to drive properly and keep enough distance between all vehicles especially massive rigs. No sense some people.

@mjbmedia It's a two-way blame game to be honest. You see as many cars pulling in and out on lorries as you do lorries on cars. I don't think the standard of driving in the UK is as high as it ought to be. And most don't realise just how bad their driving is until it's too late.
People should have to retest every few years, theory and practical. It's the only way to maintain standards.

@mjbmedia This clip looks like it was at the bottom of a hill, a possibly long and steep one. Trucks often times cannot keep their speed low enough, because their brakes heat up and become less effective. His brakes were probably absolutely shot, and maybe even on fire, and I'm guessing he had his foot on the brakes as hard as he could and it still made no difference. Honestly, there might not have been much he could do...

At the time of that accident it was 100km/h zone. The investigation into the accident revealed the driver couldnt pull up after coming over the rise and spotting stopped traffic. It was the drivers fault. Since the accident and another fatal a few weeks later speed limit was reduced to 90km/h for the whole stretch. Now they are adding more lanes, and with roadworks, full length is 80km/h.

it'd say maybe the main brake valve on the trailer has failed... a loaded truck won't pull up from 90km/hr with that happening. If the truck was to run out of air the brakes would come on.

I have traveled that road very often it is 90 klm zone and very hilly it happens quite often that the traffic stops for no apparent reason if you dont travel on this road often it can catch you out i use to drive bus and my wife has been push up this road sideways by a truck hey shit happens to everybody some time
